FFXIV Ocean Fishing Guide: Patch 7.55 Ruby Route Tips

The short version: the actual new Ocean Fishing route, the Ruby Route through the Thavnair Margin, launched with Patch 7.5 on April 28, 2026, not 7.55. Patch 7.55, landing July 28, 2026, mostly hands you Occult Crescent content and a new Limited Job, so if you came here expecting a brand new fishing map exclusive to 7.55, adjust your expectations now instead of raging later.

FFXIV ocean fishing itself has not changed its bones. You still buy Ragworm, Krill, and Plump Worm from the ferry docks in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks for about 8 gil each, and you still need your first Fisher job quest done before the boat lets you aboard. What the Ocean Fishing Route Actually Added

The Ruby Route requires completion of the Endwalker main scenario, so if you are still stuck in Ishgard, this content simply does not exist for you yet. Once unlocked, the Thavnair Margin stop introduces its own fishing log and its own spectral current variant, meaning the fish list flips entirely when that current triggers.

Important: the fishing log for Thavnair Margin is not the same as the fishing log for the Thavnair Spectral Current. Confuse them and you will spend an entire voyage catching the wrong fish for an achievement you cannot complete that day. Nobody will feel sorry for you.

Ocean Fishing Schedule, Because Time Waits for No Fisher

The boat runs on its usual fixed real world windows, several times a day, each voyage lasting around 35 minutes across three stops. An accurate ocean fishing schedule matters more than your bait choice, since showing up to an empty dock accomplishes nothing except making you feel productive while doing nothing at all.

• The Thavnair Spectral Current has its own dedicated achievements that only become obtainable while that specific current is active on that specific route.
• Two of the notable ones, informally called What Even Is That and What Did Stomatopods Do to You, still lack fully verified timing strategies as of this writing.
• Community data trackers like ffxiv.oceanfishing.boats exist specifically because Square Enix does not hand you a clean spreadsheet, so use one instead of guessing.

If you are chasing the Master of the Sea title or the associated mount, know that spectral current fish sell for meaningfully more at the turn-in NPC, so bait accordingly instead of dumping Plump Worm on everything out of laziness. Ocean Fishing achievements do not reward effort, they reward showing up during the right ten minute window and not sleeping through it.

Bottom Line for Patch 7.55

Nothing in 7.55 rewrites Ocean Fishing route content again so soon after 7.5. Treat this patch as maintenance for fishers, not expansion. Save your enthusiasm for whatever Patch 7.56 actually does to the Fisher job, because right now the ocean is calm and mildly boring, which is exactly how the sea should behave.
