FFXIV Bard Guide 7.55: BiS, Rotation, Opener, Materia

This ffxiv bard guide covers what actually matters, no lore, no filler. Bard is a ranged physical DPS that stacks personal buffs, weaves procs, and drops a party-wide burst every two minutes. Get the stat priority wrong and you'll still clear content, badly, while everyone silently judges your parse.

The bard bis 7.55 set drops from the current Arcadion Light-Heavyweight tier. Weapon damage and Dexterity outrank everything else, so don't get creative with substats until those are maxed.

Materia Melding

The bard materia plan is embarrassingly simple. Meld Critical Hit into every open slot first. When Crit caps on a piece, fill the rest with Determination, then Direct Hit. Skill Speed only earns a slot if you are hunting the 2.49s GCD breakpoint, and even then it is one meld, not a lifestyle.

Job Gauge

Bard runs on two gauges and understanding the bard job gauge is what separates a competent player from someone who just presses the glowing button. The Song Gauge tracks whichever of your three songs is active. Every three seconds, starting at 42 and counting down, you get an 80% chance at a Repertoire proc. In The Wanderer's Minuet, Repertoire builds Pitch Perfect stacks, up to three, spent on Pitch Perfect itself. In Mage's Ballad, Repertoire resets the cooldowns on Heartbreak Shot and Rain of Death. In Army's Paeon, Repertoire stacks up to four and grants a speed buff instead of a resource.

Underneath that sits the Soul Voice Gauge, which fills by five for every Repertoire proc regardless of song, capping at 100. This gauge fuels Apex Arrow, which upgrades to Blast Arrow once the gauge hits 80, and Blast Arrow hits harder than your dignity after a bad pull.

Do not use Apex Arrow the moment it becomes available. Save the gauge for your two-minute burst window, or you are simply throwing damage into the void to feel productive.

At level 90, the Minstrel's Coda trait adds a third tracker. Each of your three songs grants one Coda type on cast, and spending all three Codas via Radiant Finale maximizes its party buff. Skip a Coda and you are handing free damage back to the raid.

Opener and Rotation

The bard rotation outside burst windows is mundane on purpose, weaving DoTs, procs, and oGCDs on cooldown while the songs cycle underneath. The bard opener matters more, since a botched opener follows you for the entire pull like a bad decision at a bar.

Lead into your first burst as Army's Paeon ends: fire a weaponskill, wait, then open The Wanderer's Minuet as late as possible so its Repertoire ticks land inside burst. Every two minutes you stack Raging Strikes, Battle Voice, and Radiant Finale together, then dump everything you have, Pitch Perfect stacks, Apex or Blast Arrow, and every oGCD, into that window. Missing this alignment even once tanks your parse for the entire pull, not just that window.

Song order and duration matter as much as the bard stat priority table above: run The Wanderer's Minuet for 42 seconds, Mage's Ballad for 42 seconds, then Army's Paeon for 33 seconds, cycling back. Use any leftover Pitch Perfect stacks before switching songs, because Repertoire does not carry over and neither does your patience if you waste them.

Relic Weapon

The manderville harp bow is Bard's level 90 relic, unlocked through a Hildibrand-flavored quest chain rather than raid content, which is either a relief or an insult depending on your love of cutscenes. It upgrades through four stages, ending in the Majestic Manderville Harp Bow with a fully customizable secondary stat spread. By current patch standards it is glamour only, since synced content and current tomestone gear outperform it everywhere that matters.

If you actually want to be the best ranged dps ffxiv has to offer, gear and materia only get you halfway. The rest is burst alignment, DoT uptime, and not standing in the fire, a skill apparently harder to meld than Critical Hit.

Weapon damage and Dexterity first, then Critical Hit, Determination, Direct Hit, Skill Speed only for specific GCD breakpoints.

How should I meld materia on Bard?

Critical Hit in every slot first, then Determination, then Direct Hit, Skill Speed only if chasing 2.49s GCD.

What does the Soul Voice Gauge do?

Fills by five per Repertoire proc, capping at 100, and fuels Apex Arrow, which upgrades to Blast Arrow at 80.
