The PoE 2 Witch best build in patch 0.5 is the CoC Spark Comet Recoup Infernalist. GGG spent the 0.5 update gutting caster resource regeneration. The Infernalist didn't care: because Pyromantic Pact already burned your mana to the ground and replaced it with Infernal Flame. The nerf bat swung and missed.
The Pyromantic Pact node removes your mana entirely. Infernal Flame fills from zero to full as you cast; when it peaks, it detonates: dealing damage equal to your full life and energy shield. That sounds catastrophic. It isn't. You stack recoup so aggressively that 4,000+ life/ES per second become routine, and Sacrosanctum makes you functionally unkillable through the explosion cycle. You stop dreading the detonation. You start engineering ways to trigger it faster.
Core identity: Infinite mana via Pyromantic Pact. Infinite tankiness via recoup. Spark clears maps. Comet deletes bosses. One core unique required: Sacrosanctum. Day-1 viable on 5 divines or fewer.
The Witch has three ascendancy paths. Two are worth your time. One exists to humble the overconfident.

The Witch ascendancy PoE 2 choice defines your endgame entirely. Infernalist's Beidat's Will floods you with Spirit for minion and buff slots. Loyal Hellhound summons an Infernal Hound that absorbs a portion of incoming hits and ignites nearby enemies: free damage and a meat shield you didn't pay for.

Quest skip warning: Do NOT venerate the Eye of Hinekora (A4) for the mana bonus. Mana is your enemy in this build. Skip it with the glee it deserves.
The Witch passive tree PoE 2 priorities for Infernalist are: recoup nodes first, then spell damage, then critical strike infrastructure for the expensive endgame variant. The cheap endgame variant stacks Demon Form via Demonic Possession instead of crit: easier to gear, still clears all content.

The expensive endgame variant swaps Demon Form for a low-life crit setup: Coward's Legacy locks you below 35% life permanently, Pain Attunement grants 30% more spell damage below 35% life, and Execute III finishes any boss below 15% instantly. The cheap variant skips all of this. Both clear Ubers.
Gear priority is ruthless. Everything exists to serve the recoup engine. The single required unique: Sacrosanctum: completes the loop. Everything else is rare.

Mana sustain stops being relevant once you obtain Mana Remnants from the Act 1 King. Stop chasing mana mods. The Infernalist gear PoE 2 endgame checklist is shorter than you expect: one unique chest, high recoup on gear, and resists capped. That is all.

Six variants exist. Four are campaign stages. Two are endgame. The Path of Exile 2 endgame Witch splits at the currency threshold: both end at the same destination; one costs less and takes marginally longer to kill pinnacle bosses on the timer.

The Witch league starter PoE 2 path works because you never respec the core identity: only the damage layer changes at endgame. This is competent build design, which is rare enough to note.
If Pyromantic Pact sounds like homework, play Stormweaver. The PoE 2 Stormweaver build is the beginner-friendly version of competent caster gameplay. It relies on permanent Arcane Surge via Storm's Recollection: six Lightning Infusions per Orb of Storms cast, 25% mana regen, 10% cast speed, always active, no explosion required.
Stormweaver peaks at A-tier. Infernalist peaks at S-tier but punishes ignorance. Choose based on honest self-assessment.
The bossing rotation is specific. Do it out of order and you will waste infusions on trash that spawns before the boss model appears.
Boss encounter rotation: Cast Orb of Storms and Frost Bomb before the boss spawns: this banks lightning and cold infusions. Boss appears: immediately drop Flame Wall in its path. Shoot Spark through the wall. Repeat until dead. Simple. Lethal. Non-negotiable.
For pack clear: let enemies cluster, drop one Contagion, shoot Spark into the Contagious monster. The rest die from Contagion spreading. You are not pressing buttons: you are harvesting results.
Loot Filter: Campaign filter and Uber Endgame filter are separate configs. Custom Discord sounds for the filter exist. Do not play without a filter: loot noise will make you uninstall.

CoC Spark Comet Recoup Infernalist. Survived every caster nerf GGG deployed. One required unique. Five-divine budget clears all content.
Stormweaver. Permanent Arcane Surge at two ascendancy points. No self-damage loop. Forgiving gearing. Lower ceiling, higher floor.
Replaces mana with Infernal Flame. Casting fills it. When full, it deals damage to you. Recoup negates the damage. Net result: infinite resources, near-zero downside.
Never, unless you want faster pinnacle boss kills. Demon Form variant sustain-kills everything. Expensive variant insta-deletes. Comfort kills are still kills.
Yes. The wrong order wastes gold on respecs and delays your Spark transition into Act 2. Follow it once, stop complaining about it forever.
