PoE 2 0.5 Ice Shot Deadeye is broken in the best way. This guide covers every stage — campaign to T18 — so you stop dying to bosses you...
The Path of Exile 2 Ranger best build in 0.5 is Ice Shot Deadeye. It has been dominant since Early Access and it remains dominant now. Ice Shot clears packs, Snipe executes frozen bosses. With enough gear you drop Snipe entirely and hold one button forever. Boss dies. You leave. Repeat.

1-Button Full Crit (Late Endgame)Drop Snipe entirely once gear is deep enough. Hold one button. Watch things die. |
Requires serious investment. Reasonable only after 100+ Div sink. |
|
A |
Non-Crit + Snipe (Mid Mapping)SSF-viable. Clear is fine. Boss damage is acceptable. Upgrades are obvious. |
Where everyone starts. Where too many people stay. |

Mirage Archer VariantSpirit-efficient while leveling. Trades Mirage Deadeye DPS for reservation comfort. |
Swap out Mirage Archer once Spirit isn't tight. |
|
B |
Budget Lightning Arrow Start (Campaign)You use this until level 31 because Ice Shot doesn't exist before that. Not optional. |
Not a real variant. Just the uncomfortable truth about Act 1–3. |

Poison / Pathfinder Conversion ExperimentNerfed. You read a Reddit post from three patches ago. Move on. |
The 0.5 meta specifically punished this. Good job. |
Ice Shot fires a cold-converted arrow that fans into a cone of ice shards. Everything converts to cold. 80% physical-to-cold base conversion at gem level 20. Stack flat cold damage, projectile damage, elemental damage with attacks, and crit: all stacking into the same hits simultaneously. It is the rare build where every damage type on your gear actually does something.
The PoE 2 Deadeye ascendancy provides Mirage Deadeye, which spawns a phantom copy that fires your attacks. This node alone effectively doubles your DPS output in the endgame. Tailwind, Endless Munitions (extra projectile into every cone), and Point Blank compound further. This is not a coincidence. GGG built this for Deadeye. Play something else and explain it to yourself.
The poe2 ranger build loop is: freeze everything with Ice Shot, let Herald of Ice chain-explode the screen, then use the Barrage-into-Snipe combo on bosses while they're frozen. Freezing Mark extends boss freeze duration: it is not optional, it is the entire reason the boss dies before you do.
Do not skip to Stage 4. Your hubris will be punished. The crit bow and crit quiver must be acquired together: not separately. Not one first. Together.
Stage 1 (Campaign): Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod until level 31, because Ice Shot doesn't exist. At level 31, swap immediately. Focus entirely on flat damage to attacks on all gear. At level 16, make a 6-mod Recurve Bow with two sockets. Save your Artificer's Orbs for this. Not for anything else. This.
Stage 2 (Early Maps): Pure life and evasion. Fill resistances to 75% fire, cold, and lightning. This is not negotiable: it is the only actual rule in this game. High-evasion chest is the biggest defensive milestone here. A helmet with life and resist suffices. You are not fashionable yet.
Stage 3 (Non-Crit Endgame): Complete the non-crit setup first. Get Heart of the Well: cheap, significant DPS. Get Headhunter before touching crit. Do not argue about this. Headhunter before crit swap. Then and only then: crit bow and crit quiver simultaneously.
Stage 4 (Crit Endgame): Transition into critical strikes. Allocate crit-chance and crit-damage notables. Anoint your amulet with Serrated Edges. Aim for a 450+ ES helmet with Subterfuge Mask. Swap Wind Dancer for Ghost Dance for ES recovery. The cold conversion bow build becomes obscene here: Ghost Reave and hybrid Evasion/ES make you surprisingly hard to kill for something that should be made of paper.

Do not use Elemental Armament III. Level 2 only. Quality on Freezing Mark is the highest-value orb spend in the build.
Deadeye is the only correct ascendancy. Pathfinder does poison. You do not do poison. Stop reading about Pathfinder.
First pick. One extra projectile added to every Ice Shot cone. The single best Deadeye point for this build.
Your phantom copy fires your attacks. Unreasonable. Correct. Takes your real DPS and makes it twice.
Action speed on kill. Keeps you moving. The build is already fast: this makes it offensive.
Damage bonus at close range. Pairs with aggressive positioning. Do not stand far and wonder why things survive.
Default attribute is Dexterity. Take Feathered Fletching if your quiver has projectile speed. The deadeye passive tree routes through the projectile/cold cluster first, picks up evasion/deflection if you're dying, damage nodes if you're not. At level 75 the tree is complete for non-crit. The crit transition reallocates Hail and Kite Runner: use your refund points there, not on experiments.
Evasion is not just for dodging. In this build, it feeds Deflect: a flat damage reduction layer from hits added to Deadeye in 0.5. Stack evasion on every piece. The Deflect layer is the reason hybrid Evasion/ES is superior to pure life. Pure life players are playing a different, worse game.
Resistances: 75% fire, cold, and lightning. Do this first. Everything else is a luxury until you have caps. Life scales toward 2,500 on entering maps and 4,000+ for deep T15–T18. The freeze-into-shatter loop also serves as the primary defensive mechanic: dead enemies cannot hit you. Counterintuitively effective.

Yes. SSF-viable, forgiving gear curve, simple rotation. Play it.
After Headhunter. After full non-crit setup. When crit bow and crit quiver are acquired simultaneously. Not before.
Upgrade your bow and quiver. The freeze threshold scales with cold damage.
