Pathfinder is a Ranger Ascendancy built around poison, flasks, and movement. It survived the 0.5 patch with most of its dignity intact. Ghost Dance got slowed down, Overwhelming Toxicity lost some duration, and somehow the community still calls it a top-tier pick. The PoE 2 Pathfinder best build in patch 0.5 depends on what you want: brainless clear, endgame boss kills, or the most obnoxious playstyle possible.
Three builds dominate the current meta. Gas Grenade is the classic poison stacker: verified, stable, and boring in the best possible way. Spark Cast on Critical is the overachiever who showed up uninvited and refuses to leave. Corpsewade is what happens when someone discovers boots that do all the work for them.
0.5 Patch Impact: Overwhelming Toxicity now grants 50% less Poison Duration (was 35%). Ghost Dance interval stretched to 10–11.7s. Running Assault movement penalty reduced to 30% less (was 50%). Net result: slightly squishier, still dangerous.
Gas Grenade creates Poison Clouds on the ground: area surfaces that apply Poison constantly and grow over time. Combined with Herald of Plague for proliferation and Plaguefinger gloves for doubled Poison stacks, this is the most straightforward way to melt content on Pathfinder. The Gas Grenade Pathfinder does not require accuracy, does not need you to aim well, and scales into Pinnacle Bosses with ease.
Rotation Drop Gas Grenade clouds → Cast Despair (lower Chaos Res) → Activate Toxic Domain for single target boost → Place Dark Effigy on boss for Critical Weakness stacks → Repeat until dead.
On Crit: as of patch 0.3, critical strikes do work on the Poison Cloud. The build runs a crit splash: not full crit investment, but enough to fish for high damage. Swap Encroaching Ground to Elemental Focus on static boss encounters.

The Pathfinder Spark Cast on Critical variant uses Spark's high crit rate to trigger socketed spells: primarily Comet for boss burst and Arc for pack clear. Pathfinder's movement penalty reduction and mana efficiency make it arguably the best platform for CoC Spark in 0.5. The build is mechanically identical to Stormweaver CoC but benefits from flask sustain and better mapping movement.
The core loop: cast Spark, proc crits, watch Comet drop, repeat. Mana stacking sustains the cost. The Vertex got nerfed in 0.5: no longer grants +all skills with Vaal Cultivation Orb, and Atziri's Splendour took an ES hit. Still strong. Just costs more to reach the same ceiling.
Why it works on Pathfinder Running Assault reduced movement penalty while casting. Mana cost reduction from ascendancy makes Archmage Spark sustainable. Flask uptime keeps crit and mana buffs rolling. Screen-wide clear, Comet on demand.
Corpsewade boots create poison gas clouds via Decompose automatically as you move. Your boots kill monsters. You are essentially just a vehicle for footwear. Plague Bearer keeps clouds going and generates corpses. Against bosses, weapon-swap to target your own Bind Spectre minions to apply gas clouds with precision.
This is the most popular Pathfinder build this patch by favorites. It is also Hardcore viable, which means when the boots are doing most of the work, you can afford to pay more attention to not dying. Level 58 is required to start: Sacrifice unlocks at 58 and is mandatory. Do not attempt this before then.
0.5 Note: Overwhelming Toxicity is now the last (or optional) ascendancy point for this build. The duration nerf hurts cloud sustain less than the stat block suggests: cloud overlap compensates. Updated as of May 24, 2026.

The passive tree for the Pathfinder endgame build follows a strict order post-3rd Ascension. Deviate from this and your defences will embarrass you.
Defence setup: Evasion + Energy Shield hybrid. Wind Dancer and Ghost Dance are your defensive skills. Ghost Dance is slower in 0.5 (one shroud every ~11 seconds vs ~7 previously): compensate with higher flat ES on gear. The Deflection formula was adjusted and hybrid builds benefit from it now.
