PoE 2 patch 0.5 is live and Huntress is eating. Here's which ascendancy to pick, how to build Twister, and why Ritualist is not your league starter.
The Huntress is a Dexterity-based hybrid who hits things with spears and occasionally transforms into a werewolf, because subtlety is for other classes. She operates at mid-to-close range with fast, mobile attacks and scales elemental AoE damage: specifically cold and lightning: to absurd levels in the endgame. For patch 0.5, she has three ascendancies: Spirit Walker (new), Amazon, and Ritualist.
The PoE 2 Huntress best build this league is Twister via Spirit Walker. This is not heavily contested. The class shines in open-area content like Rituals, demolishes map clear with screen-wide freeze, and has a clear gear scaling path from league start to high-investment endgame. The cost: you will press more than two buttons and that will bother some people.
The Huntress is not a league starter for players who want to autopilot. The combo rotation has real upside, but also a real learning curve. Pick something else if you're going to complain about rotations.

Extra ring slot, jewelry amplification. Enormous ceiling when geared. A bad league starter without a strong foundation.
All three ascendancies can run the Twister core. Huntress ascendancy tier list for 0.5 puts Spirit Walker clearly on top: it was designed around skills the Huntress already wants to use, and its passive nodes interact directly with Twister's projectile mechanics.
Path of Exile 2 Spirit Walker build revolves around three Azmeri spirits: Stag, Owl, and Bear: that you summon to amplify your combat output. The spirit system converts movement and positioning into offense, meaning good players get meaningfully better results than passive ones. You are rewarded for moving. You are punished for standing still. This is not accidental.

Weapon Sets
This build uses a two-weapon-set system. Set 1: Changeling Talisman (werewolf / mobility focus). Set 2: Hardwood Spear + Leather Buckler (Twister damage). Skill and passive tree points can be assigned per set. Mismanaging this will make you feel incompetent. That's accurate.
Defense
Evasion, Deflection, and Energy Shield: layered mitigation rather than raw life stacking. The build is not tanky. It is slippery. If you try to facetank, you will die and deserve it.
Spirit Walker is unique-heavy and gear-dependent at endgame. Budget phase is serviceable. High-investment phase is genuinely one of the highest-damage Twister configurations currently in the game.
The Huntress Amazon ascendancy is the straightforward path. You exploit enemy weaknesses for movement speed and skill speed bonuses, convert excess Accuracy into Critical Strike Chance, and leech life off elemental attacks. The Amazon does not require a companion management system or a 6-step rotation to function. It simply works from Act 1 onward.
Key Ascendancy Nodes
The Amazon also supports the Twister Huntress league starter core. You run the same Whirling Slash into Twister combo, simply without Spirit Walker's companion amplification. Damage ceiling is lower. Accessibility is higher. A reasonable trade if the companion system sounds like homework.
Amazon is the correct answer if you are new to Huntress or want a stable, well-understood league start with no exotic mechanics. The ceiling is lower than Spirit Walker. The floor is considerably higher.
The PoE 2 Ritualist Huntress is built around jewelry scaling: specifically the combination of an extra ring slot (Unfurled Finger) and a node that amplifies all equipped ring and amulet bonuses by 25% (Mystic Achievement). When this is properly geared, the power spike is significant. When it is not properly geared, the Ritualist is a mediocre ascendancy with a penalty node in the way.
Key Ascendancy Nodes
Ritualist runs Explosive Spear and Lightning Spear for rapid elemental burst, fueled passively by spirit buffs. The playstyle is self-sufficient: no minion army, no companion juggling. Fast strikes, elemental detonations, and the occasional beast summon from the Azmeri spirit side of the kit.
Ritualist requires investment to function and a penalty node has to be accepted before the good stuff. Not a league starter. If you queue into day-one maps with a Ritualist expecting to compete, that's a you problem.
Act 1 introduces Whirling Slash plus Twister as the core loop: accessible from level 1, which is convenient since GGG apparently wanted Huntress players to feel competent immediately. Pounce handles mobility early. Shred triggers Werewolf form without a cooldown and costs nothing meaningful.
The Huntress leveling guide for 0.5 prioritizes stat allocation as follows: flat damage on spear or gloves or rings first, movement speed on boots second, maximum life and resistances wherever they appear. At early campaign, literally nothing else matters.
Campaign Progression Milestones
A useful vendor search regex for finding gear during campaign: [egdl] da.*to a|ck s|nt s|rare: this flags flat added damage, movement speed, rare-quality pieces, and other priority affixes without manually inspecting every dropped item.
The Spirit Walker build is Path of Exile 2 best league starter material specifically because it scales well on low investment. It does, however, transition to unique-heavy gearing at mid-to-high endgame. Plan for this before you spend currency on magic-item optimization that gets replaced in ten maps.

The Twister build PoE 2 endgame rotation requires commitment. This is not a "press one button and walk forward" build. If that's what you want, this guide has a wrong-door problem.
Dodge Roll (trigger Primal Bounty) → Whirling Slash x3 (max Whirlwind, generate Vivid Stampede Shocked Ground) → Ice-Tipped Arrows → Barrage → Twister
Parry → Fangs of Frost (50% more attack damage, elemental ground) → Full standard rotation inside the window
The Parry step forces the boss to take 50% more attack damage for a short duration. Multiple Twister rotations fit inside this window. Use it on anything that matters. Skip it on white packs where you will clear before the animation resolves.
The elemental Huntress PoE 2 damage loop operates on timing windows. Salvo and Primal Bounty sync with the Dodge Roll trigger. Miss the sync and you lose a substantial fraction of your burst. Practice the timing until it is automatic.
The PoE 2 passive tree Huntress allocates up to 24 weapon-set-specific passive points over the campaign. These are split between Set 1 (red) and Set 2 (green) in the passive tree interface. The general principle: Set 1 points go toward werewolf movement speed, Set 2 points go toward Twister damage.
Before unlocking Dance with Death, werewolf skills auto-assign to Set 1 when the Talisman is equipped: no manual configuration needed. After Dance with Death, manual assignment is required. Read the passive tree interface before assuming things are set up correctly. They probably aren't.
Campaign quest rewards of note: +15% Global Defences (Seven Pillars), +5 to each core attribute from the elemental trials. Take these in the order that serves your current stat deficits.

Spirit Walker. It enables Twister's best damage interactions from the start without requiring expensive gear foundations.
Yes. Spirit Walker is the strongest platform for it. Amazon works fine. Ritualist works but needs investment first.
Higher levels increase mana cost without meaningful damage gain. Mana matters late. Leave it at one.
Technically yes. Practically no. Its power requires good rings and amulets, which you won't have day one.
Flat added damage to attacks on your spear or gloves. Everything else is secondary until that is addressed.
