Palworld Ancient Material Synthesizer Guide
New guide: how to unlock the Palworld 1.0 World Tree and defeat final boss Zenara & Astralym: every step, no fluff, no mercy.

The Palworld 1.0 world tree is not a scenic detour. It's the last gate Pocketpair built specifically to laugh at your progress bar. Getting there is a multi-stage errand quest disguised as an "endgame reveal," and no, you cannot skip steps by being clever. You will do the errands.
Southeast of the tree sits the Deserted Islet, home to the Ancient Civilization Researcher: an NPC whose entire personality is "giant whale remains." Talk to him repeatedly until he stops rambling and hands you the echoing flute blueprint Palworld players have been chasing since launch, along with four map markers. Go collect the items at all four. This is the Panthalus quest Palworld fans now associate with mild existential dread.
The shrine fight is against Panthalus. It is easy, which should worry you: Pocketpair is saving its cruelty for later. Defeat it, then capture it. Spheres are on the nearby beach if you forgot to pack any, because apparently you're expected to forget.
With Panthalus in your party, return to the terminal blocking the World Tree. Interact with it. The barrier drops, congratulations, you've technically learned how to unlock world tree Palworld content the hard way instead of just reading this sentence. Ride Panthalus in on the whale, because subtlety was never the plan.
This is the halfway point. The tree itself has its own gate, and it does not care how tired you are.
Inside the World Tree, head to the central door. The first visit only grants lore and a new set of map markers pointing to three sub-bosses. Defeat all three: one of them throws roughly eight shadow-round Pals at you at once, which is the game's idea of a joke. Clearing all three unlocks passage through that first door.
The final door demands all eight Key Spheres, earned exclusively by clearing every Tower Boss in the game. Palworld tower bosses locations span the entire map, so if you've been slacking, now's when it catches up with you. Check your Key Items tab; you probably already own more of these than you remember.

That eighth one is new to 1.0. A tornado blocks the entrance until you find and disable several defense beacons scattered across the floating islands: some require entering buildings from the roof rather than the ground floor, which saves time nobody warned you'd need to save. key spheres Palworld completionists will recognize this as the last errand before the real fight.
Return to the World Tree's central door, then the second door beyond it. This is the Zenara Astralym boss guide section you scrolled down for. Zenara fuses with Astralym, a Level 80 duo sitting at 420,000 HP with no elemental weaknesses whatsoever, because fairness was never part of the design brief.

Phase |
HP Range |
What Happens |
|
1 |
420,000 → ~210,000 |
Standard aggressive moveset with several one-shot attacks. Bring ammo. |
|
2 |
~210,000 → ~30,000 |
Escalating attacks, still no elemental weakness to exploit. |
|
3 |
~30,000 → 0 |
Self-destruct countdown (20 seconds) plus energy tornadoes. Stay ranged. |
This is, unambiguously, the hardest fight in the game. Bring a full squad of your strongest Pals, your best gear, and whatever patience you have left. It is not a puzzle fight; it is a war of attrition with an "immune phase" timer near the end designed purely to test whether you'll rage-quit. Consider this the closest thing to a Palworld final boss guide can honestly promise: mechanics matter less than raw preparation.
Once defeated, Astralym is added to your Paldex. That's it. That's the whole reward for Astralym Pal capture: you don't actually get to own or deploy this Pal. Pocketpair confirmed it directly: look, don't touch. The World Tree is simply one of the biggest Palworld 1.0 new areas added at launch, and this is how its story ends: no trophy, just the memory of the grind.

Complete the Panthalus quest, craft the Echoing Flute, defeat and capture Panthalus, then interact with the barrier terminal.
All eight. Seven original towers plus the new Sunreach tower boss added in the 1.0 update.
No. Pocketpair confirmed it's uncatchable: you only get a Paldex entry, nothing more.
420,000 HP across two phases, plus a self-destruct countdown phase near the end.
None. It's completely typeless, so bring your strongest overall team, not a counter pick.
