WoW Midnight 80–90 Leveling Guide
Ready to duct-tape reality together? Our WoW Midnight Engineering guide is live! Master the chaos, level 1-100, and make that sweet gold!
So here we are in World of Warcraft: Midnight, where the Void is actively digesting Quel'Thalas, the Blood Elves are having yet another existential crisis, and Xal'atath — the ancient cosmic entity of unspeakable evil — is probably two zones away from eating reality itself. And you? You have decided that now is the perfect time to become an Engineer. Not a healer. Not a tank. An Engineer. The person whose primary job is to duct-tape a scope onto someone else's gun and occasionally explode themselves on accident.
In previous expansions, Engineering had this charming little loop: you Invented prototypes, disassembled them into scrap, scoured through the scrap like a caffeinated raccoon, and maybe — maybe — got a recipe. It was chaotic, expensive, and vaguely humiliating. Blizzard looked at that system and said, "What if we kept the chaos but removed the fun parts?" Enter Recycling: now you feed other professions' garbage into your Engineering blender and pray to the Old Gods that a useful recipe drops out. The circle of life, really.
The good news? Engineering in Midnight is genuinely useful. Goggles for every armor type, a combat-rez pet that can wipe the floor with M3DDY, ranged weapons, scopes, gadgets, and enough Housing Decor to make your Ren'dorei Void apartment look like an IKEA catalog designed by someone who stares into the abyss professionally. Also, you get to craft tools for other professions, which means those Jewelcrafters who've been judging you since 2004 will now have to come crawling to you. Cherish this moment. It won't last.
This guide covers everything: trainer, shopping lists, the Recycling grind, all four spec trees, every Knowledge Point source, treasures with TomTom waypoints, and which gold-making path won't make you cry at the Auction House. Let's build some stuff and blow some things up.
There is exactly one Engineering trainer you need in Midnight, and she has the audacity to be named Danwe — a Blood Elf who has been standing in Silvermoon since The Burning Crusade and apparently decided to just keep going. Respect the commitment.

Engineering Trainer |
Silvermoon City (Bazaar, West Side) |
/way #2393 [Bazaar W] |
South of the bridge to Isle of Quel'Danas. Main trainer for 1–100. |
Pro Tip: If you were an Engineer in The War Within and continue into Midnight, you can skip the trainer entirely — harvest anything in a Midnight zone and you'll auto-learn Midnight Engineering. The trainer is only required for brand new Engineers.
Alternate Trainer: There's also a secondary Engineering NPC (NPC ID: 241452 from wow-professions reference) in the Bazaar. Same function, slightly different coordinates. When in doubt, ask the city guard — unlike past expansions, Silvermoon City in Midnight is fully rebuilt and Skyriding-enabled.
Buy these before you start. The vendor mats you can grab right next to Danwe; the ores you'll need from Mining or the Auction House. Don't start the leveling session and realize mid-craft you're 50 ores short. We've all been there. It's not fun.

Engineering leveling in Midnight is less predictable than other professions because a significant portion of your skill-ups come from discovered recipes that you can only find through Recycling. The route below is the fastest framework — exact numbers vary based on RNG discovery.
Craft 8×Song Gear (8× Malleable Wireframe, 80× Refulgent Copper Ore, 40× Umbral Tin Ore). Then do 7× Recycling on your Bright Linen Bolt / Refulgent Copper Ingot / Powder Pigment stockpile. These early Recycles give skill points even before you unlock recipe discovery.
Learn new recipes from Danwe. Craft 1×Evercore Shade and 1×Evercore Vision Guard for the First Craft bonus. Enable the "First Craft Bonus" filter in your Profession window for easier tracking.
Craft 1× each: Evercore Dome Dinger (3× Pile of Junk, 1× Evercore), Evercore Zoomshroud, and Evercore Reconissance. Each gives the First Craft bonus (a fat skill point guaranteed).
Unlock the Recycling specialization tree and put 10 points in immediately. This enables recipe discovery. Also learn all new recipes from Danwe. Then craft 10×Soul Sprocket (10× Malleable Wireframe, 50× Refulgent Copper Ore, 100× Umbral Tin Ore) + craft all four Cogwheel recipes for First Craft bonuses.
Do 20× Recycling on your cheapest available material. Learn any new recipes Danwe now offers. Use the First Craft Bonus filter and craft everything that still shows a first-craft bonus. Keep going until your Profession Book is clean.
The 10-Point Recycling Spec Requirement: Recycling will NOT discover new recipes by default. You must invest 10 Knowledge Points into the Recycling specialization tree first. Don't skip this. Every Recycle before those 10 points is just materials. Don't cry about it. Just do the World of Warcraft leveling boost.
Keep Recycling until you discover your first Quel'dorei recipe. This is RNG, so no exact number — just spam your cheapest recyclable materials until something with "Quel'dorei" appears in your Profession book. These are your workhorses for the next 35 skill levels.
Example Route: Craft 60×Quel'dorei Guards (300× Pile of Junk, 60× Malleable Wireframe, 60× Evercore). All Quel'dorei recipes are roughly equivalent cost — use whichever you discovered first. They all go grey at 80.
Quel'dorei gear goes grey at 80. You have three main options. Many players combine approaches:

Recycling is a spell you learn at Engineering level 1. It lets you destroy 5 crafted reagents from any Midnight profession to receive either Evercore or Aetherlume. As a bonus (after investing 10 KP in the Recycling spec tree), each recycle has a chance to discover a new Engineering recipe.

Market Mobility (Tools) |
10× Recycling → Resourcefulness → 30× Market Mobility (Mandatory Tools sub-spec → Engineering Tools) |
Lets you craft your own tool immediately + sell to other professions. Still need Recycling for discovery. |

Combat Analytics (Gear) |
10× Recycling → Resourcefulness → 30× chosen Combat Analytics armor sub-spec |
Can craft Epic Aetherlume gear at max quality without Concentration once Engineering hits 100 + blue gear. |

Recycling (Pure) |
30× Recycling → Resourcefulness → remaining flex |
Best for mass-producing Gold-quality Evercore/Aetherlume. The only real gold-maker per survey of all recipes. |
Stat Priority: If a craft CAN Multicraft → use Multicraft tool + enchant. If it CANNOT Multicraft (Recycling, Profession Tools, Combat Gear) → use Resourcefulness. Check your Profession window: if Multicraft appears on the right panel, it can proc.

You can collect around 40–50 Knowledge Points on Day 1 from First Crafts, treasures, and the Renown book. After that, expect roughly ~20 KP per week from patron orders, weekly drops, the trainer quest, and your Inscription treatise. Don't miss the World of Warcraft delves.

Engineering is unique in that you craft your own Tool and one of your Accessories. Your second Accessory slot comes from Leatherworking. Epic gear is new in Midnight and grants higher secondary stats (Resourcefulness, Multicraft, Ingenuity) compared to Rare, while giving equivalent World of Warcraft achievements.

Note on Blue Gear: In Midnight, Blue quality profession gear no longer requires Moxie (unlike in The War Within). This means demand for Blue tools will be higher earlier in the expansion, since more players can afford to commission them sooner. Great early-expansion gold opportunity with Market Mobility.
Engineers craft three gear slots (Head, Wrist, Feet) for every armor type. Cloth, Leather, Mail, and Plate each get a full set from the Combat Analytics specialization. You unlock each armor type through its own sub-spec node.

Leather, Mail, and Plate have equivalent recipe sets with matching Aetherlume/Evercore/Quel'dorei/Competitor's tiers. All armor types follow the same pattern — sub-spec into the appropriate Combat Analytics node to unlock Epic crafts.
Engineering is not an Alchemy-tier gold machine. Let's be honest about that before you make any life decisions. However, there are legitimate gold-making opportunities, especially at expansion launch.

No |
Consistent utility seller. The rare consumable in Engineering's roster that actually has buyers. |
|
Housing Decor |

Depends on how popular Housing is on your realm. Volatile pricing. Good for early movers when supply is low. |

Low-Medium |
No |
Warbound gear can be sent to alts — some players buy for twinks or to skip early leveling gear gaps. Volume play, not premium. |
Honest Assessment: After reviewing all Midnight Engineering recipes, the two most reliable gold sources are Gold-quality Recycled Reagents (Recycling spec) and Emergency Soul Link (Bits and Bots). Everything else either requires time-gated materials, depends on server economy, or faces stiff competition from other crafters. Plan accordingly and diversify with a second profession if gold is your primary World of Warcraft reputation.

You destroy five crafted reagents to get Evercore or Aetherlume. With ten Knowledge Points in the tree, you can also discover brand new recipes.
You can find Danwe on the west side of the Bazaar in Silvermoon City. If you are a returning Engineer, gathering auto-learns the skill.
Crafting Blue Profession Tools early on is highly profitable. Later, selling Gold-quality Recycled Reagents or the Emergency Soul Link consumable provides reliable, steady income.
