WoW Midnight 80–90 Leveling Guide
Ready to destroy your potions for progress? Our WoW Midnight Alchemy guide is here! Master Camberon's Cauldron and start printing gold
This is a complete WoW Midnight Alchemy guide — trainer locations, every recipe with Wowhead IDs, leveling 1–100 paths, all Knowledge Point sources, full specialization builds, gold-making strategies, and the answers to questions like "why do I need to recycle my own potions to learn how to make better potions." (The answer is Blizzard. The answer is always Blizzard.)
There is exactly one Alchemy trainer you need in Midnight. His name is Camberon, he's in Silvermoon City, and he's standing next to a cauldron that's going to become your best friend and deepest financial regret simultaneously. Vendor Melaris is right next to him for Sunglass Vials and other WoW gearing help.

Alternative Learning If you had Alchemy in The War Within and continue into Midnight, you can skip the trainer — just craft any Midnight recipe and you'll automatically learn Midnight Alchemy. The trainer is only required if you're picking up Alchemy fresh or hitting the trainer for advanced recipes from Camberon's Cauldron.

Alchemy in Midnight runs on herbs from Herbalism, Motes from gathering and transmutation, and a brand-new currency-flavored crafting material called Stabilized Derivate that you get by destroying your own potions. Because recycling is good for the environment, apparently.

Stabilized Derivate is not optional Almost every recipe unlock from Camberon's Cauldron requires Stabilized Derivate as a cost. You get it by using the Recycle Potions or Recycle Flasks abilities on your own crafts. Do NOT vendor spare potions early in the expansion — recycle them. This is the game telling you to eat your vegetables before you can have WoW leveling help.

Mote transmutes run on an 18-hour shared cooldown. They convert 10 of one mote into 8 of another, but can Multicraft. The cycle: Light → Wild Magic → Pure Void → Primal Energy → Light (via separate recipes). Buy low, sell high — or just transmute whatever your guild needs.

Camberon's Cauldron is the replacement for The War Within's RNG experimentation system, and calling it "discovery" is generous. It's a recipe shop with prerequisites. You craft a certain number of items in a category, then spend some Stabilized Derivate and optionally some Artisan Alchemist's Moxie, and you unlock the recipe. No dice rolls. No failed experiments. No crying into your keyboard at 2am.
Where is Camberon's Cauldron? Silvermoon City, right next to Camberon the Alchemy trainer.

Leveling Alchemy in Midnight is actually less painful than in recent expansions, because the RNG recipe discovery is gone. The early levels are still a tedious warm-up act, but once you unlock Light's Potential around skill 25, you can just spam it all the way to 100 while everyone else is being clever about their leveling route. Being clever is overrated.
Buy all of this upfront from the AH or farm it yourself before sitting down to level. Quality doesn't matter for skill-ups — buy the cheapest.
50–100 list is not included here because it depends entirely on your spec and AH prices at the time. See the per-bracket guidance below.
6× Silvermoon Health Potion
36× Tranquility Bloom, 30× Sunglass Vial. Get Sunglass Vials from Melaris right next to Camberon. Do not go to the AH for these, that's just paying a tax on your own laziness.
10× Recycle Potions on the Silvermoon Health Potions you just made.
Yes, you are destroying your own work. Yes, this gives you Stabilized Derivate. Welcome to Alchemy.
Visit Camberon's Cauldron and research:
8× Entropic Extract — 24× Tranquility Bloom, 40× Sunglass Vial. These are gray eventually but getting here is filler before the big move.
30× Silvermoon Health Potion — 180× Tranquility Bloom, 150× Sunglass Vial.
Recipe is yellow. You may need extra crafts. Doesn't matter — recycle the potions for Stabilized Derivate and count it as vertical integration.
Unlock specializations at skill 25 At skill 25 you unlock your first spec. Don't panic-spend everything immediately. See the Specialization section below and pick your path deliberately.
Once you're past 50, you have three viable routes. The skill-up color codes per WoW delves help are:

Unlock Light's Potential from Camberon's Cauldron (craft 5 healing potions → 50 Moxie) and spam it to 100. It's cheap, gives useful sellable output, and the Herbalism + Alchemy combo makes the ingredients essentially free if you've been farming.
If you've unlocked flask specialization, crafting any of the three main flasks gives 2 skill points per craft until 90, halving your material budget vs potions. You need Nocturnal Lotus, which is expensive — hence "more expensive." But the flasks sell well so you mostly get the gold back.
School of Gems, Bouquet of Herbs, and Box of Rocks all give skill points to 100. Check AH prices — transmutes return materials, so the net cost can be very low if the input:output ratio is favorable on your server.
There are four spec trees in Midnight Alchemy. You unlock them at skill levels 25, 50, 60, and 75. In theory this is about specializing your craft. In practice it's about picking whether you want to sell potions or flasks and then spending 3 weeks of weekly quests feeling good about your choices.
Flasks, phials, and the group cauldron. Flask duration perk at 5 pts (personal) and 15 pts (party/raid). Flask Cauldron requires 30 pts. Best for: raid mains, AH flask sellers, anyone who wants to be beloved by their guild officers.
All Light and Void potion recipes split into sub-specs. Multicraft nodes (Prolific Potioneer) are the target. Potion Cauldron requires 30 pts. Best for: Light's Potential spam levelers, Draught of Rampant Abandon enjoyers, potion AH sellers.
Resource fulness across all crafts — cuts material costs. Three sub-nodes: Recycle (flasks/phials), Reuse (potions), Reduce (other). Not a primary tree but absolutely go here for 10–20 points once your main tree is established. Free money through saved materials.
Transmutation recipes + Multicraft for mote cycling. Magister's Alchemist Stone (embellishment) requires 30 pts. Box of Rocks recipe is here. Wondrous Synergist (daily CD) is here. Best for: dedicated transmuters, housing decor crafters. Skip if you're purely potions or flasks.

Dual-spec: cover both flask and potion lines once you have 80+ KP |
Goblins get +5 Alchemy skill from Better Living Through Chemistry — recipes stay orange longer, saving you materials. Kul Tirans get +2 from Jack of All Trades. If you're playing an alt purely for Alchemy gold, Goblin is the objectively correct race and anyone who argues otherwise is coping.
Knowledge Points are the long-term profession upgrade currency. You spend them in your specialization trees. You get approximately 40–50 KP on Day 1 from first crafts and one-time treasures (plus 10 more if you have Renown for the KP book). After that, expect roughly 15–23 KP per week from repeatable sources.
~16 KP/week · Patron Orders Main ongoing source. Multiple crafting orders come in weekly, some rewarding Glimmer of Midnight Alchemy Knowledge. Not all orders give KP.
2 KP/week · Trainer Quest Pick up from Camberon. Complete 3 crafting orders → Thalassian Alchemist's Notebook = 2 KP. Resets weekly.
4 KP/week · Weekly Drops Loot 1× Lightbloomed Spore Sample and 1× Aged Cruor from zone treasures. 2 KP each.
1 KP/week · Inscription Treatise Thalassian Treatise on Alchemy is BoP but Warbound. Have your Inscription alt craft it or submit a public crafting order.
3 KP/month · Darkmoon Faire Once a month, quick profession quest = +3 KP and +2 Skill. Don't skip it. The Faire starts the Sunday before the first Monday of each month.
24 KP total · Treasures (One-Time) 8 treasures × 3 KP each. Collect all of them ASAP on launch week or your first day. Free permanent KP that you never get again.
10 KP one-time · Renown Book Beyond the Event Horizon: Alchemy from Void Researcher Anomander. Requires Renown 9 with The Singularity and 75× Artisan Alchemist's Moxie.
Catchup · Flicker of Knowledge If you're behind, Patron Orders drop Flicker of Midnight Alchemy Knowledge instead of Glimmers. Flickers give more KP. The game feels bad for you. Temporarily.
Collect all 8 on your first play session. 24 free KP that does not respawn. If you skip these on launch week, you are leaving permanent progression on the floor.

The mote transmute cycle is: Mote of Light → Wild Magic → Pure Void → Primal Energy → Light. Each step converts 10 of one mote into 8 of another (but Multicraft can push past the 8 floor). If any leg of this cycle has a significant price delta on your AH, you can profit by transmuting every 18 hours. Check the cycle prices daily — they shift with crafting demand and the WoW achievements help.
Wondrous Synergist Value Unclear at Launch The Wondrous Synergist daily cooldown is used in both cauldron recipes and housing decor. Its value depends heavily on whether your server's raiding guilds are using cauldrons and how much the player housing decor market develops. Don't deep-spec into Transmutation Authority purely for this until you've assessed your server's market.

|
Combo |
Synergy |
Complexity |
Best For |
|
Alchemy + Herbalism |
Direct: farm your own herbs, cut out the AH entirely. Every Nocturnal Lotus proc is pure profit margin. |
Low — farm herbs, make stuff, sell stuff |
Most players. Consistent gold all expansion. Highest margin when flasks are in demand. |
|
Alchemy + Mining |
Double gathering. Zero crafting required. On launch week this combination generates the highest raw gold/hour with minimal setup. |
Very Low — just gather everything and vendor/AH it |
Launch-week gold grinders. People who don't want to think about recipes. |
|
Alchemy + Inscription |
Inscription makes your Mixing Rod. Inscriptionist can also make the weekly Treatise for Alchemy KP. The synergy is mostly logistical. |
Medium — two separate leveling paths and crafting queues |
Alt army builders. People who want to control their own profession supply chain. |
|
Alchemy only (AH flipping) |
Buy herbs cheap, craft flasks/potions, sell at markup. No gathering investment required — but fully dependent on AH margins. |
Lowest — just craft and list |
Characters without gathering time. High-population servers with volatile herb prices. |
Alchemy + Herbalism is still the answer Vertical integration is undefeated. You farm Nocturnal Lotus for free as a proc while gathering base herbs for your potions and flasks. Every Nocturnal Lotus that drops is pure margin that AH-buying alchemists cannot match. If you have one character and want to maximize Alchemy gold this expansion, that character has Herbalism. There is no WoW reputation.

Because Stabilized Derivate is the key ingredient for unlocking Camberon's Cauldron recipes and crafting advanced items, and the only way to get it is to Recycle your own potions and flasks. Think of it as reverse alchemy: you are transmuting mediocrity into potential. The system is designed to prevent players from skipping the early progression by buying herbs and immediately unlocking everything. It's a deliberate friction mechanic. It works. You hate it. You will still do it.
It genuinely is the best option for most players. It gives 1 skill point per craft from skill 50 all the way to 80, turns yellow at 80, and green at 90. The materials are not particularly exotic (Mote of Light, Tranquility Bloom, Azeroot, Argentleaf), and if you have Herbalism, the herbs are essentially free. The person selling Mote of Light on the AH is also correct that Light's Potential is efficient — they're just benefiting from your efficiency. This is the free market.
Camberon's Cauldron is a recipe shop with prerequisites — you meet a requirement (like "craft 10 potions"), pay some Stabilized Derivate and optional Artisan Alchemist's Moxie, and unlock the recipe permanently. It replaced The War Within's RNG experimentation system where you'd click "Experiment" every few hours and maybe learn something. The Cauldron is strictly better than the old system. You can still learn the basic starting recipes directly from Camberon, but everything interesting comes from the Cauldron.
Artisan Alchemist's Moxie (Currency ID: 3256) is a profession-specific currency you earn passively through Alchemy Knowledge gains — basically, it accumulates as you do Alchemy things. Unlike the shared Artisan's Acuity from The War Within, Moxie is only usable for Alchemy recipes. You spend it primarily at Camberon's Cauldron to unlock recipes, and at a few renown vendors for specific items. Do not vendor items you could be recycling for Stabilized Derivate — that's not what Moxie is for.
Fluent in Flasks if you're a raider or primarily sell flasks. The 15-point node gives your flasks double duration for the entire group — this alone makes you extremely valuable in a raid context, and it's unlocked very early. Potion Prowess if you're leveling via Light's Potential spam (Potion Prowess has Multicraft for potions) or plan to sell Light's Potential on the AH in bulk. If you're unsure: unlock Fluent in Flasks to 15 first for the personal flask duration, then decide. That 15-point investment pays off immediately in any content you do.
No. It's good for dedicated transmuters and players who want the Magister's Alchemist Stone (embellishment). The Wondrous Synergist daily is used in cauldrons and housing decor, which could make it valuable — but the market for housing decor is impossible to predict pre-launch, and cauldrons require someone to deep-spec into a flask or potion tree first. Most players will find more consistent value in Fluent in Flasks or Potion Prowess. Transmutation Authority is a specialization for people who have made a deliberate plan around it, not a dark horse that everyone is sleeping on.
Yes. Vertical integration is undefeated. You grow your own ingredients, you process them into consumables, you sell the consumables to raiders who would rather pay gold than spend time farming. It's the same loop it's always been, it works every expansion, and the only people who call it boring are the people who aren't doing it while printing gold. The combo is boring the same way a reliable income is boring. That's the point.
