WoW Midnight 80–90 Leveling Guide
Finally, a WoW Allied Race that delivers! Become a primordial Haranir guardian in Midnight. Unmatched racials, epic forms, and zero rep grinds!

The Haranir are the new Allied Race in World of Warcraft: Midnight — and for once, Blizzard didn't deliver something underwhelming. These are ancient hunters from a hidden bioluminescent jungle built around the roots of the World Trees, and they look incredible. Glowing skin paint, quills, tusks, and an aesthetic that screams "primordial forest guardian who has seen things in the dark that would make your Void Elf cry." They're also neutral — meaning you pick Horde or Alliance per character, like Earthen, Pandaren, and Dracthyr before them.
From a mechanical standpoint, the Haranir are legitimately competitive. Their active racial Thorn Bloom simultaneously damages enemies and heals allies in a target area — something no other race offers. Their passive One With Nature gives +5 Herbalism skill and +10 Finesse, making them the best race for Herbalists in Midnight (which, considering how valuable Nocturnal Lotus is, matters a lot). Their critical strike bonus from Lash Out applies to both damage and healing. And Subterranean Predator gives bonus XP and damage against the exact types of enemies you'll be fighting all expansion.
The unlock is refreshingly straightforward: complete the Harandar campaign during the Midnight main story. No reputation grind. No achievement wall. No "reach Renown 40 with a faction you haven't touched yet." Just play the game, finish the zone, get the race. The worst thing about them is that you can't unlock them during the 3-day Early Access — but everyone's in the same boat there.
TL;DR: Complete the Harandar campaign questline → earn Allied Race: Haranir achievement → get Ivory Grimlynx mount → create your Haranir. Level to 50 → earn Heritage of the Haranir → unlock Har'alnor and Shul'ka armor sets. That's it. That's the whole World of Warcraft leveling help path.
Ferocious, watchful guardians, the Haranir keep an ever-present vigil over the wild domains of their long-absent Goddess, in hopes that she might one day return. Ancient hunters of a hidden land, they serve as protectors of the Rootways — the primordial networks of World Tree roots beneath Harandar.
The Haranir were first introduced during The War Within expansion, but players only got a glimpse of them. Midnight is where their full story unfolds. The race is governed by a council of elders who have maintained an isolationist tradition for millennia, guarding the subterranean zone of Harandar from the creatures that lurk within its bioluminescent depths. Their patron goddess, Aln'hara, was taken from her cradle long ago — before the Haranir even existed as a people — and they have watched over her empty domain ever since, hoping for her return.
The player's gateway into Haranir culture is Orweyna, a young guardian with an unusually powerful connection to the absent goddess. Where the elder council prefers isolation, Orweyna's bond compels her to venture beyond Harandar into the wider Midnight conflict. Through her, players witness the tension between tradition and necessity that defines the Haranir as a people.
Two major Haranir factions exist within the race: the traditional Har'alnor (the guardians, rooted in ancient custom) and the Shul'ka (defenders who fight actively against the horrors of Harandar). Both are represented in the Heritage Armor sets you unlock at level 50 — the name of each set literally reflects which faction it represents.
Faction Context: The Haranir join the Midnight alliance out of necessity — the same forces threatening Quel'Thalas are connected to the darkness encroaching on Harandar. Their enrollment in the Horde/Alliance is less ideological allegiance and more "the enemy of our enemy requires our claws."
Harandar is the third zone of Midnight. You need to progress the main campaign through Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman before Harandar opens. Follow the main story marker — don't skip to side hubs. Note: you need to be at least level 83 to accept the first Emergence storyline quest in Harandar.
The Harandar campaign consists of three full storylines. You must complete all three. The final quest in the Harandar arc is called "Rise of the Haranir" — finishing it triggers the unlock. Do not stop early based on rumors that "finishing one arc is enough." You need the whole campaign done.
Completing "Rise of the Haranir" automatically awards the Allied Race: Haranir achievement (ID: 61506). This unlocks the Haranir on your entire account — all characters on all realms. The Ivory Grimlynx mount is delivered to your collections simultaneously.
Go to character creation, select Haranir, choose Horde or Alliance, pick your class, and spend an unreasonable amount of time in the customization screen. Your new Haranir starts at level 10 and begins in the Haranir starting experience. There is no level 1–10 "old world" starting zone.

Heritage Armor Rule: You cannot use a character boost to get Heritage Armor. You must level a Haranir character from 10 to 50 yourself. This is a universal WoW rule for all Allied Race Heritage Armor sets — it's not unique to the Haranir. You can use XP potions, rested XP, and Recruit-a-Friend though. At least they give you something.

The Haranir have five racial abilities: one active combat ability, two combat passives, one gathering/utility passive, and one movement ability. All are Nature-themed and reflect their role as subterranean hunters guarding the World of Warcraft Character boost.

+10% XP vs Aberrations, Beasts & Elementals · +1% Damage vs all three |
Thorn Bloom is the most unique racial in Midnight. No other playable race has an ability that simultaneously deals AoE damage and heals group members. In dungeons where enemies and allies are stacked — which is most M+ pull scenarios — this is a free damage + heal drop every 3 minutes. For tanks, this is exceptional. For healers, it's a free AoE HoT plus free damage. For DPS, it's a throughput boost. It's universally good and it's yours for just existing.
One With Nature (+5 Herb, +10 Finesse) is the best gathering racial for Herbalism in the entire game right now. Tauren get +5 Herbalism skill + 25% faster gathering speed. Haranir get +5 Herbalism + 10 Finesse (which means more herbs per node). The question of which is better depends entirely on what you value: Tauren's speed buff is better for mobile farming; Haranir's Finesse is better for yield per node and overall materials harvested in a session. Both are BiS depending on your farming style. Haranir win for gatherers who stop and commit to each node.
Subterranean Predator (+10% XP vs Beasts/Aberrations/Elementals) makes Haranir the fastest-leveling race for open-world content in Midnight since a significant portion of Harandar mobs are Beasts and Aberrations. Combined with their unique intro questline XP, you will level faster on a Haranir than on virtually any other race in the expansion's zones.
Lash Out (+1% Crit Damage + Healing) is modest but clean. It has no scenarios where it doesn't help. Every class gets something from it. Healers especially appreciate the healing crit bonus — it stacks with every other crit modifier.
Rootwalking starts modest (teleport to the Cradle in Harandar) but grows in value as you unlock additional World Tree destinations. Think of it as a utility racial with a learning curve. At max unlock potential, it becomes a meaningful cross-zone travel tool.
Verdict: For Herbalists, Haranir are the best race in Midnight — period. For group PvE players (tanks and healers especially), Thorn Bloom is legitimately one of the best active racials added to the game since Legion. For casual/leveling players, Subterranean Predator is a constant quiet bonus. There is no scenario where Haranir is a bad World of Warcraft PvP choice.

Haranir can play 9 out of 13 classes — everything except Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Evoker, and Paladin. This gives you access to every core role in the game (tank, healer, melee DPS, ranged DPS). Here's the full breakdown:
|
Class |
Specs |
Racial Synergy |
|
Druid |
Guardian · Restoration · Feral · Balance |
Most versatile pick — 4 specs cover every role. One With Nature stacks perfectly with Druid Herbalism. Thorn Bloom fills the AoE heal gap. Lash Out benefits crit heals and Balance burst. |
|
Hunter |
Beast Mastery · Marksmanship · Survival |
Perfect lore match — Haranir are subterranean hunters. Subterranean Predator synergizes constantly with BM's pet Beast kills for +10% XP and +1% damage. Best leveling race for this class. |
|
Mage |
Arcane · Fire · Frost |
Lash Out's crit bonus applies well to Arcane burst windows and Fire's Ignite crits. Thorn Bloom gives Mages a group utility button they normally lack entirely. Nature/arcane visual contrast is strong for RP. |
|
Monk |
Brewmaster · Mistweaver · Windwalker |
Mistweaver benefits from Lash Out's crit healing bonus on all hot crits. Thorn Bloom adds burst AoE healing in group stacks. Brewmaster gets a free group defensive tool with Thorn Bloom in M+. |
|
Priest |
Holy · Discipline · Shadow |
Thorn Bloom on a healer Priest is a free AoE cooldown. Lash Out crit healing scales especially well with Holy's Serendipity procs and Disc's atonement crits. Shadow Priest with Nature roots aesthetic is genuinely underrated. |
|
Rogue |
Assassination · Outlaw · Subtlety |
Lash Out benefits Assassination's poison/bleed crit damage. Rootwalking as a repositioning and escape tool is useful in PvP. Subterranean Predator applies to open-world mob grinding all expansion. |
|
Shaman |
Restoration · Enhancement · Elemental |
Thorn Bloom + Restoration's HoT kit = natural synergy in any grouped content. Lash Out crit healing applies to Chain Heal and Healing Rain crits. One With Nature is a bonus on a class that benefits from Herbalism for reagents. |
|
Warlock |
Affliction · Demonology · Destruction |
Lash Out applies to Affliction's DoT crits (Haunt, Malefic Rapture). Thorn Bloom gives Warlocks a group utility button they have zero of normally. Nature/shadow aesthetic contrast is strong for the void-in-nature RP angle. |
|
Warrior |
Arms · Fury · Protection |
Thorn Bloom as a Prot Warrior is a legitimate M+ group tool — free damage and healing every 3 minutes in stacked pulls. Lash Out benefits Shield Slam crits (Prot) and Fury Execute crits. Subterranean Predator accelerates leveling on a high-mob-kill class. |
Not Available: Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Evoker, and Paladin cannot be Haranir. This means no Haranir tanks via DK or DH, and no Holy Paladin Haranir healer. If your guild desperately needs a Paladin, you're still playing a Blood Elf in the Sunwell's front yard like everyone else.

|
Goal |
Best Class |
Why |
|
Best Overall / Most Versatile |
Druid |
Four specs covering every role + 7 unique Haranir shapeshift forms. One With Nature stacks perfectly with Druid's Herbalism fantasy. Thorn Bloom fills the gap Druids have in burst group AoE healing. |
|
Best for Herbalism / Gold Making |
Druid (any spec) |
One With Nature (+5 Herb, +10 Finesse) + Druid's native Travel Form mounted gathering = no KP investment needed in Botany. You're saving 40 KP AND getting a racial Finesse bonus. This is the BiS gatherer setup. |
|
Best for M+ / Group Content |
Restoration Shaman or Guardian Druid |
Thorn Bloom is at its most valuable on a healer or tank where you're in range of both enemies and allies constantly. Root totems on Shaman are also the best visual in group content. |
|
Best for Leveling Speed |
Hunter (Beast Mastery) |
Subterranean Predator gives +10% XP vs Beasts and Aberrations — BM Hunter kills Beasts for pet synergy AND gets bonus XP for all of it. Fastest open-world leveling path in Harandar. |
|
Best for PvP |
Subtlety Rogue or Balance Druid |
Rootwalking as a Rogue escape / repositioning tool is underrated in PvP. Thorn Bloom as a Druid gives you surprise AoE deny in melee clusters. Lash Out's crit bonus scales in burst PvP windows. |
|
Best for Healing |
Restoration Druid or Restoration Shaman |
Thorn Bloom + HoT/hot synergy is the obvious pairing. Lash Out crit healing bonus applies to all periodic heals on both specs. Root totems on Shaman are also visually unmatched. |
|
Best for Pure Aesthetics |
Druid (for forms) or Shaman (for totems) |
Haranir have the most unique class-specific visuals on these two classes. The bioluminescent Moonkin form and root Shaman totems are why people will be making these specific combinations for transmog screenshots for months. |
Haranir Druids get fully custom shapeshift models across every form. These aren't reskins — they are ground-up new designs reflecting the Haranir's subterranean, fungal, bioluminescent aesthetic. Every form has multiple color variants. This is one of the most complete sets of unique Druid forms added since Worgen and Troll Druids.
Guardian spec tank form. Haranir Bear is a heavily root-entwined, fungal-accented creature with bioluminescent markings. Multiple color variants — dark earth tones to World of Warcraft delves options.
Feral spec melee DPS form. A sleek, quill-accented predator that matches the Haranir hunter aesthetic. Very different silhouette from Night Elf/Tauren cat forms.
Balance spec ranged DPS. Haranir Moonkin incorporates their natural bioluminescence into the feather structure — glowing patterns across the form. Previews show it as one of the most visually striking Moonkin variants ever.
Travel form for aerial movement. Haranir look like bats in Flight Form — a first for Druids. Multiple color variants. Extremely fast and distinctive silhouette in the air.
Ground movement form. A root-and-fungal-accented quadruped with the Haranir's characteristic natural markings. Enables ground movement at mount speed.
Underwater movement form with increased swim speed. Haranir Aquatic Form has its own unique design — confirmed with multiple visual variants in datamined assets.
Restoration spec healing cooldown form. Haranir Treant has multiple leaf shape variants on the top of the form. The different variations feel organic rather than armored — consistent with the race's aesthetic.
These forms can be changed at any Barber Shop after character creation, including color variants. You don't need to pick your favorite at creation — experiment freely.
Haranir Shamans get entirely custom totem visuals across all totem spells. The design is root-and-fungal — matching Harandar's aesthetic perfectly. Every time you drop a totem as a Haranir Shaman, you're placing a piece of living Harandar root-system on the ground. This applies to all totem types: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and class-specific totems. There are no half-measures here — it's a complete visual overhaul for the class's most iconic mechanic.
Haranir Hunters begin their adventure with a unique Saptor pet — an exclusive creature native to Harandar that isn't available through any other unlock method at launch. This is the standard "allied race Hunter pet" mechanic (Void Elves get Void Hounds, Mechagnomes get robots, etc.), applied to Harandar's fauna. The Saptor's exact pet family and abilities will be visible in-game. Hunters who care about unique pet aesthetics have an extremely compelling reason to play Haranir.

Reach level 50 on any Haranir character and you automatically earn the Heritage of the Haranir achievement, which unlocks both Heritage Armor sets simultaneously. These sets can only be transmogged by Haranir characters — they're race-locked cosmetics, like all Heritage Armor in WoW.

Haranir Militia Wear |

Complete Haranir intro questline on first character |
Both Heritage sets unlock at the same time on the same achievement. You don't need to choose. Level one Haranir to 50 and you own both sets on your entire account (available to all Haranir characters you create). The fastest path to Heritage Armor is a Haranir Druid or Hunter — the XP bonuses from Subterranean Predator shave real time off the 10–50 grind.

The Ivory Grimlynx is your reward for unlocking the Haranir Allied Race. It's a pale, fierce grimlynx — Harandar's apex predator — tamed by the Haranir through a combination of sheer stubbornness and probably some roots. It's account-wide, meaning every character you own can ride it regardless of race or World of Warcraft achievements.

In a vacuum, Haranir are top-3 for any Herbalism-focused player and top-3 for any group PvE player who wants meaningful racial utility. The only race that definitively "beats" them for pure Herbalism is Tauren Druid (specifically that combination). For everything else, Haranir are competitive or better for World of Warcraft reputation service.

No. The Haranir unlock requires completing the Harandar campaign, which is part of the full Midnight release — not the Early Access window. Everyone unlocks Haranir on the same timeline regardless of whether you bought the Epic Edition head start. Use Early Access for leveling other characters and profession setup.
No. Zero reputation required. This is one of the cleanest allied race unlocks in the game's history — just play the Harandar campaign story and you're done. The final quest "Rise of the Haranir" triggers the achievement and unlock automatically.
No. Haranir cannot be Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Evokers, or Paladins. You have 9 available classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior. Every role (tank, heal, melee DPS, ranged DPS) is covered by this list.
Yes, Thorn Bloom works in PvP. It damages enemies and heals allies in a 10-yard radius of the target location. In battlegrounds, Arenas, and open-world PvP, this is a free group-utility cooldown on a 3-minute CD. For tanks and healers especially, this is legitimate PvP value. Note that PvP dampening and trinket/ability interactions may affect the exact numbers.
The Harandar campaign is estimated at 3–5 hours of focused questing for an experienced player, depending on your class and spec's solo efficiency. The zone is the third in Midnight, so factor in the time to complete Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman first. Total campaign time before Harandar unlocks is typically 8–15 hours depending on pace. For dedicated launch-week players, Haranir should be unlockable within the first two days of full launch.
No. Heritage Armor requires you to level a Haranir character from 10 to 50 yourself — you cannot boost to skip this grind. This is a universal WoW rule that applies to all Allied Race Heritage sets. You can use XP bonuses (rested XP, buffs, Recruit-a-Friend), but the leveling must be done manually. The "Heritage of the Haranir" achievement at level 50 unlocks both the Har'alnor and Shul'ka sets simultaneously.
Yes — completely. Haranir Druid forms are built from scratch with 7 unique models: Bear, Cat, Moonkin, Flight (bat-like), Travel, Aquatic, and Treant. Each form has multiple color variants. The Flight Form being bat-like is genuinely new for Druids — it's the first time any race has had a bat silhouette for that form. If you play Balance, Feral, Guardian, or Restoration and care about how your shapeshifted forms look, Haranir is the most visually distinctive Druid race in the game right now.
The Herbalism skill bonus is useless if you don't have Herbalism. The +10 Finesse, however, only applies to gathering professions — it doesn't do anything for crafting professions or combat. So: if you're a Herbalist, this is excellent. If you're not, this racial effectively doesn't exist for you. The other four racials (Thorn Bloom, Lash Out, Subterranean Predator, Rootwalking) are still competitive without it.
Initially: a teleport back to the Cradle in Harandar. This is useful when you're questing, farming, or delving in Harandar and want to quickly return to hub NPCs. The real value is in the expanded version: when near World Tree roots within Harandar, Rootwalking takes you directly to that World Tree instead of the Cradle. As you unlock more destinations, this becomes a multi-point fast-travel network within Harandar — like a personal Mole Machine that grows with your progress.
If you're a Herbalist: yes, absolutely — best race for the profession. If you're a healer or tank: yes, Thorn Bloom is one of the best active group racials added in recent expansions. If you care about aesthetics: yes, Haranir have the most distinctive visual identity of any allied race in Midnight. If you're a min-maxing DPS who doesn't care about utility: your sims will tell you the exact % difference between Haranir and whatever meta race exists at the time. But for most players, most of the time, Haranir are competitive or better.

GTA 6, new seasons, major updates — get ready to dominate from day one.
