WoW Midnight 80–90 Leveling Guide
Hunters need us now?! The ultimate WoW Midnight Inscription guide is here! Rush to 100, grab your free KP, and dominate the gold market!

Inscription is your source for Darkmoon Deck trinkets, Vantus Runes (every raider needs them, nobody thanks you), stat-fixing Missives (every BiS crafter needs them even more), Contracts for reputation grinding, staves/bows/off-hands for competitive players, and an entire Housing Décor line for the interior decorator in all of us. This expansion also added bow-crafting to Inscription's portfolio, so congratulations — Hunters now need you specifically. That's new and delightful.
Main takeaway: rush to skill 25, grab Calm Hands first for the Treatise recipe, spam first-craft bonuses through 50, then ride Thalassian Treatises to 100 while Patron Orders carry you the rest of the way. Collect all 8 KP treasures on Day 1. Stack your crafting stats based on your chosen gold-making path, and never, ever forget to search Public Orders before assuming nobody wants your Missives.
All Inscription NPCs are in Silvermoon City. The city was rebuilt for Midnight and looks spectacular. Blizzard did not, however, put everyone on the map yet, which is peak Blizzard energy. Here is every Inscription-relevant NPC you need to know, with coordinates for your TomTom addon.

Pro Tip: All profession trainers and vendors sit just north of the Sanctum of Light in the Bazaar. Silvermoon fully supports Skyriding in Midnight — fly there once, pin it with TomTom, and never wander aimlessly again. The Horde-exclusive wing has a second Inscription trainer if you're Horde and feel like being extra about it.

Everything starts with herbs. You mill herbs into pigments. You combine pigments into inks. You make inks into everything else. This is the Inscription economy in its entirety, summarized in one sentence. If you also have Herbalism, congratulations — you've achieved vertical integration and should probably feel smug about it.

Go buy all of this before you start leveling. Yes, all of it. No, don't start without it. Making 10 trips to the Auction House mid-leveling because you ran out of Mana Lily is how you end up spending 40 minutes leveling a profession that should take 20.
Cost reduction tip: If you have Herbalism, farm your own herbs. All five base Midnight herbs spawn in every zone. Buying inks directly from the AH is usually faster and cheaper than crafting them from pigments — check World of Warcraft leveling service.

Treatise crafts need 1 each |
Additionally, buy Thalassian Songwater and Lexicologist's Vellum from Lelorian (supply vendor next to Zantasia). You'll need roughly 70–80x Vellum for the Treatise spam phase. Buy a stack of 100 and stop worrying.

Inscription is the easiest crafting profession to max in Midnight — possibly in WoW history. The trick is using first-craft bonuses efficiently early, then switching to Treatise spam for the majority of the journey. If you're expecting exciting diversity in your crafting queue: lower your expectations. Prepare your wrist for Milling.
Midnight Milling
Open your profession spell book. Find Midnight Milling. Mill all of these:
Yes, this is all Milling. Yes, it gives skill. No, it's not exciting. Milling also gives skill up to 20 — use it. Save all pigments produced.
Craft these in order. Keep all inks — you will need every drop.
At 25, you unlock specs. Pick Calm Hands first. This teaches you Thalassian Treatise on Inscription — the core recipe for 51–100 leveling. Other spec choices: Blueprints at 50, Darkmoon Curiosity or Perfected Products at 60 and 75.
Filter your profession window: click Filter → tick "First Craft Bonus". Craft one of everything shown except the Inscription Treatise (save that for later). Key first-crafts before World of Warcraft Character boost:
Don't use your Treatise yet — wait until you have 10 points in Calm Hands for 2 KP instead of 1.
Craft Thalassian Treatise on Inscription repeatedly. As you do, you'll discover recipes for all 11 other profession Treatises. First-craft each discovered Treatise for the bonus skill point. Treatises give 1 skill point per craft all the way to skill 100.
Each Treatise costs: 1x Munsell Ink + 1x Sienna Ink + 1x Mote (Wild Magic for Inscription, other types for others). Total needed: ~70 Treatises. Recipes go yellow at 80, green at 90, grey at 95.
Stuck at 91–99? Complete 1–3 epic weapon crafting orders for 3 skill each. You need a Spark (BoP, one every 2 weeks — use the crafting order system). Stop at 91, 94, or 97 to save Sparks.
Patron Orders: NPCs will send you personal crafting orders throughout the week. Some give KP, some push skill. Always check these before logging off. Hit "Search" in Public Orders manually — they don't auto-load.

Week 1 Target: Collect all 8 treasures (24 KP) + complete trainer quest (2 KP) + Patron Orders (~20–24 KP) + zone drops (4 KP) = roughly 50–54 KP on Day 1 and your first week combined. This gives you enough to fully unlock Calm Hands and start Blueprints or World of Warcraft PvP boost.

There are 8 Inscription treasures across the Midnight zones. Each gives 3 KP. That's 24 total Knowledge Points you can collect in about 30 minutes on launch day. Collect them all immediately. One location was not found on beta — confirm in-game on launch.

Inscribe creates a random card from a suit using Munsell Ink, Sienna Ink, or Thalassian Essence of the Faire. Transcribe swaps an existing card for a different random one from the same suit (costs an Essence). Use Transcribe when you're missing one specific card. Both cards and Essences also drop from world content — you don't need to be a Scribe to collect cards, but you need a Scribe to upgrade the deck.
Caveat: Darkmoon Dominion trinkets at ilvl 220 are not necessarily competitive with gear from current raid content. Check your server's AH prices and trinket sim values before investing 75+ KP into Darkmoon Curiosity. If nobody's buying them on your realm, this spec tree is mostly a very expensive passion World of Warcraft delve boost.
Contracts grant bonus reputation every time you complete a World Quest in Midnight zones. One contract per week, shared across your Warband. Requires Rank 5 with the target faction to learn. Demand is steady — every serious reputation grinder needs them weekly, and they're cheap to make. Not glamorous. Very consistent.
Missives are optional reagents used in crafting to set specific secondary stats on weapons, armor, and profession tools. Every player who orders a crafted item with non-default stats needs a Missive. There are 6 combat stat Missives and 7 profession stat Missives. At expansion launch, every BiS crafter on your server will be buying Missives. Stack Perfected Products KP for Gold-quality Missive crafting and this is your primary income stream for the first several months.
One rune per raid tier. Demand spikes hard on Tuesday raid resets. Demand is also thin — one rune per player per week means you're not selling 13 per customer like Missives. Craft these reactively, not speculatively. Unlock the recipe at skill 50 (Spell #1230050). Requires 2x Petrified Root + 1x Soul Cipher.

Inscription has multiple viable income streams in Midnight. The right choice depends on your server's economy, your KP investment level, and whether you want consistent reliable income or feast/famine high-risk plays. Here is the full breakdown.
|
Product |
Tier |
When to Sell |
Requirements |
Notes |
|
Combat Stat Missives (Gold quality) |
S-Tier |
All expansion — never stops |
Perfected Products: 90 KP chain for Gold quality |
Every crafted gear order needs Missives. High volume, steady demand, low drama. |
|
Epic Weapons (Crafting Orders) |
A-Tier |
Launch week through mid-expansion |
Blueprints spec + BoP Spark (1 per 2 weeks) |
High profit per craft. Sparks are the bottleneck. Take Patron Orders and Public Orders both. |
|
Profession Tools (Alchemy/Cooking) |
A-Tier |
Launch week — high demand for alts |
Blueprints spec for Blue/Epic. Green from trainer. |
Especially valuable first week when everyone's gearing up professions. Demand drops quickly. |
|
Contracts |
B-Tier |
All expansion — weekly purchase |
Faction Rank 5 (one time grind) |
Cheap to make, cheap to sell, always moves. Volume game. Set up cancel scans on AH. |
|
Darkmoon Dominion Trinkets |
B-Tier |
Early expansion (before heroic raid gear) |
Darkmoon Curiosity: 75+ KP investment per suit |
Non-Scribes bring you their deck via crafting order. Check BiS lists first. Varies wildly by realm. |
|
Profession Stat Missives |
B-Tier |
Launch week — gathering profession setup |
Vendor: Lelorian (no spec needed) |
Especially Missive of Finesse and Multicraft. Sells during initial profession tool crafting rush. |
|
Vantus Rune: Radiant |
B-Tier |
Raid release week only |
Skill 50 |
Price spikes on Tuesday. One rune per player per week means lower volume than Missives. |
|
House Décor |
C-Tier |
Niche / housing enthusiasts |
Various Renown vendors |
Volatile market. Some items will be surprisingly valuable; most won't. Watch carefully at launch. |
The first week of Midnight is the highest gold-per-hour window for Inscription, bar none. Here's the priority list:
Day 1 Priorities: (1) Collect all 8 KP treasures immediately. (2) Get to skill 25, spec Calm Hands, learn Treatise recipe. (3) Get to skill 35+ and start first-crafting weapon recipes. (4) Post Missives (all 6 combat stat variants) immediately — these sell within minutes on launch day. (5) Pick up weekly trainer quest. Complete 3 crafting orders ASAP for 2 KP. (6) Start World of Warcraft achievement boost.

It's genuinely faster! Midnight Inscription is arguably the easiest profession to max in WoW history, heavily relying on simple first-craft bonuses and Treatise spam.
You must mill hundreds of base herbs like Tranquility Bloom into pigments to craft the inks required for all your subsequent leveling recipes.
It’s your core leveling recipe for skill levels 51 through 100. You craft them repeatedly because they guarantee skill points all the way up.
You should pick Calm Hands first. It is absolutely crucial because it unlocks the Thalassian Treatise recipe needed to efficiently level past fifty.
Zantasia is located in the Silvermoon City Bazaar just north of the Sanctum of Light. Blizzard simply hasn't updated the map markers yet!
They might be vendor trash. Their item level often falls behind heroic raid gear, making the heavy Knowledge Point investment a risky passion project.
You need roughly 50 to start, but maxing out profitable trees like Gold-quality Missives or Epic Weapons demands continuous investment throughout the expansion.
Yes, they are S-Tier for gold making! Every single player ordering optimized crafted gear needs them, providing steady, high-volume income with low drama.
The guide doesn't detail Bronze reagents, but heavily emphasizes maxing out the Perfected Products tree to secure highly profitable Gold-quality Missives instead.
Absolutely. Herbalism provides a completely self-sufficient pipeline, allowing you to farm your own herbs, mill them into inks, and maximize your profit margins.
