Complete Midnight Blacksmithing guide: recipes, ores, alloys, Armorsmithing vs Weaponsmithing builds, treasure waypoints, and every ID you need.

This is a complete WoW Midnight Blacksmithing guide — trainer location, every ore and alloy, every recipe, leveling 1–100 paths, all Knowledge Point sources, full specialization builds, gold-making strategies, and the answers to questions like "why do I have to go fishing to craft a Toolbox." (The answer is Blizzard. The answer is always Blizzard.)
There is exactly one primary Blacksmithing trainer in Midnight. His name is Bemarrin. He is a Blood Elf. He is in Silvermoon City. He is on the west side of the Bazaar, slightly south of the Bridge to the Isle of Quel'danas. Talk to him to learn Midnight Blacksmithing 1–100 and return each time you hit a new skill bracket for additional WoW gearing.

Blacksmithing is a crafting profession. Crafting professions require materials. Materials come from Mining, the Auction House, or the life decision of being a dual-gatherer who can never remember which ore goes into WoW leveling.

Open Profession window, filter by First Craft Bonus. Open Bemarrin's trainer window side by side. Craft each recipe once, return to trainer for new ones, repeat. You'll land between 47 and 50 skill. Equip your Thalassian Blacksmith's Hammer and Toolbox when done. |
Specialization unlock at skill 25: You unlock your first specialization slot. Read the specialization section below before spending any points — the first 25 KP you earn can either accelerate leveling dramatically or disappear into a tree you'll regret.
Clear your First Craft Bonus filter. Craft approximately 50x Sterling Alloy. Each gives 1 skill point. The recipe goes green around 68, so budget a few extra crafts. Sterling Alloy is a core ingredient in nearly every high-end recipe and sells on the AH. You are not wasting materials; you are pre-stocking your inventory. Tell yourself that.
Trainer recipes go grey around 70. You now need a plan. You have three main paths. Combine all three.

Blue (Rare) Profession Gear — Sun-Blessed Hammer, Toolbox, etc. |
1 skill per craft (yellow to 90, green to 95) |
5x Sterling Alloy + 2x Dazzling Thorium + 1x Majestic reagent per craft |
No — but BoP, cannot be sold on AH |
Steady and reliable. Requires Craftsmithing sub-spec. Best for players who hate surprises. |
|
Epic Profession Gear — Sunforged Hammer, Toolbox, etc. |
3 skill per craft (orange to 100 — need only ~10 crafts from 70) |
Sterling Alloy + Majestic materials + 20x Fused Vitality per craft. Recipes cost 150 Artisan Blacksmith's Moxie each. |
Yes — Fused Vitality is time-gated |
Most efficient per craft but hardest to spam. Plan Moxie and Fused Vitality accumulation in advance. |
|
Patron Crafting Orders — Epic armor/weapons for NPCs |
3 skill per completed order |
Depends on which recipe the Patron requests |
RNG — orders randomly generated, may not match your recipes |
Free skill-ups that come to you. Accept everything that fits your recipe book. Don't count on them exclusively. |
Public Crafting Orders warning: Hit "Search" in the Public Orders section — it does not auto-load. Also, public orders are not cross-realm. If you're on a low-pop server, the tab may be functionally empty. Patron Orders (NPC orders) are player-specific and always show up, but the recipe requests are random.
There are four specialization trees in Midnight Blacksmithing. You unlock them at skill levels 25, 50, 60, and 75. KP spent here permanently upgrades your capabilities. Blacksmithing specializations directly gate high-skill recipes — if you don't spec into Armorsmithing, you cannot craft Spellbreaker's Epic plate armor. Choose WoW PvP.

Push chosen weapon sub-spec to use optional reagents; or Armorsmithing root if you also want armor |
The Old Ways for passive stat bonuses to reduce Concentration dependency |

Crafting Orders / Raid Supply |
Armorsmithing root (30 pts) — unlocks all sub-specs |

Add Weaponsmithing for weapon orders. The Old Ways for Resourcefulness / Ingenuity |
Players who want to profit from other people's BiS desperation via Crafting Orders |
|
Auction House / Consumables |
The Old Ways root → 30 pts |
Craftsmithing root → 25–30 pts into Tool Stones (Weaponstones, Razorstone) |
Resourcefulness sub-nodes for material efficiency; branch into Alloys for gold quality output |
Players who want AH gold on consumables without caring about gear crafting |
|
Profession Tools |
Craftsmithing root → 30 pts (unlocks all tool types) |
10–20 pts into Trade Tools sub-spec for Blue gear; then Trade Accessories |
The Old Ways for stat bonuses; eventually Weaponsmithing root for recipe diversity |
Players supplying gearing tools to every gathering profession on the server |
KP planning: On launch day you can earn approximately 50–60 KP from first crafts and one-time treasures. After that, expect roughly 20–25 KP per week from Patron Orders, weekly quests, treasure drops, and treatises. Plan your specialization path around that timeline.

Stat |
What It Does |
Priority |
Best Source |
|
Skill |
Determines crafted item rank — higher skill = higher rank without using Concentration |
Critical — always maximize for your primary craft type |
Specialization nodes, profession tools, racial bonus (Dark Iron Dwarf/Lightforged Draenei) |
|
Resourcefulness |
Chance to save materials on a craft — direct cost reduction |
Very High — primary profit multiplier for alloy/consumable production |
Specialization (The Old Ways, Alchemical Mastery sub-nodes), profession gear |
|
Multicraft |
Chance to produce additional items — great for alloys and consumables |
High for consumables / alloy sellers. Low for gear-only crafters. |
Specialization (The Old Ways), profession tools |
|
Ingenuity |
Bonus Concentration on a craft — more free rank-5 opportunities |
Medium — valuable when Concentration is your daily rank guarantee |
Specialization (The Old Ways), profession gear secondary |
Blacksmiths can craft their own Hammer and Toolbox. The Apron comes from a Leatherworker — meaning you need at least one friend, one alt, or one Crafting Order. Three tiers of profession gear are available in Midnight. Green is BoE and tradeable. Blue and Epic are BoP, must be ordered through Crafting Orders.
Knowledge Points are the long-term progression currency of Midnight Blacksmithing. On launch day, grabbing every available KP is the single most valuable 30 minutes you can spend — more valuable than any farm session, more valuable than your first Crafting Order, arguably more valuable than WoW delves.

Race choice has a direct, measurable impact on Blacksmithing. Some races get free Skill and free crafting speed. These are not cosmetic WoW achievements.
|
Race |
Racial Bonus |
Practical Value |
Best For |
|
Dark Iron Dwarf (Alliance) |
+5 Blacksmithing skill; 10% faster Blacksmithing speed; can summon a forge anywhere (Mole Machine) |
Very High — +5 skill is significant for hitting rank thresholds without spec investment. No-anvil summoning is extremely convenient. |
Pure BiS Blacksmithing optimization, especially for raiders who craft gear often |
|
Lightforged Draenei (Alliance) |
+5 Blacksmithing skill; can summon an anvil anywhere via passive |
High — same +5 skill as Dark Iron. Anvil-anywhere convenience is similarly practical. |
Alliance players who want BiS crafting skill without committing to Dwarf |
Horde reality check: If you are a Horde player, none of your race options provide Blacksmithing bonuses. You'll need to compensate through specialization investment and profession gear. The gap is real but not enormous — roughly an extra 10–15 KP spent on Skill nodes versus a Dark Iron Dwarf who gets it free. Annoying, not catastrophic. Welcome to being the other faction.
Blacksmithing is not a passive gold-making profession. It requires active Crafting Order management, daily Concentration decisions, material cost tracking, and a grasp of your server economy.
|
Timeframe |
Best Items to Sell |
Why |
Strategy |
|
Launch Week |
Sterling Alloy (bulk), Rare armor sets, Weaponstones/Whetstones, profession tools |
Crafters buying alloys before they can smelt their own. Casuals need gear. Raiders want weapon consumables immediately. |
Front-load crafting time. List alloys in stacks of 5, 10, and 20. Fill every public Crafting Order that appears. Your Concentration is worth maximum value in Week 1. |
|
First Month |
Epic plate armor (Spellbreaker's set), Epic weapons, Weaponstones |
Raid demand stabilizes. M+ players want reliable upgrades. Crafting Order market for epic gear matures. |
Identify which armor/weapon slots have the highest Crafting Order demand on your server. Spec into those first. |
|
Mid-Expansion |
Embellished gear (world drop recipes), Epic with top optional reagents, Profession tools (Blue/Epic) |
Base armor prices drop as supply catches up. Embellished pieces retain premium due to 2-slot limit. Profession tools always have demand as new alts level. |
Chase embellishment plans. Sun-Blessed and Sunforged profession tools sell throughout the expansion. |
|
Late Expansion |
Consumables (Weaponstones, Razorstone), Housing Decor, Skeleton Keys |
Gear crafting margins collapse as recipe knowledge spreads. Consumables maintain steady weekly demand from active players. |
Weaponstone production is your late-game floor if you're Weaponsmithing specced. Small margins, consistent volume. |
Concentration rule: Never use Concentration on alloys. Use it only on epic gear crafts where the difference between Rank 4 and Rank 5 represents a meaningful Crafting Order premium. Creating alts with Blacksmithing significantly increases your Concentration-based production capacity.
Artisan Blacksmith's Moxie rule: Do not vendor Artisan Blacksmith's Moxie. Use it to buy the +10 KP book from Void Researcher Anomander once you hit Renown 9 with The Singularity (75 Moxie), or to buy Epic profession gear recipes at 150 Moxie each. Every Moxie vendored is a knowledge point donated to the void.

Best For |
|
Blacksmithing + Mining |
Self-sufficient material supply. Farm your own Refulgent Copper, Umbral Tin, Brilliant Silver, and Dazzling Thorium (Perception procs). Zero dependency on AH for core mats. |
Low — just mine and smelt |
New players, budget-limited players, or anyone who wants a self-contained crafting loop |
|
Blacksmithing + Engineering |
Both professions use the same ore types. Engineering provides personal gadgets and utility. |
Medium |
Players who want Engineering QoL (tinkers, gadgets) without sacrificing ore self-sufficiency |
|
Blacksmithing + Jewelcrafting |
JC prospects ore into gems. Both use shared Mining supply. Tight supply chain for two profitable professions. |
Medium-High |
Players who want maximum vertical integration from the ore economy |
|
Blacksmithing only (AH Crafting Orders) |
Focus entirely on Patron Orders and public Crafting Orders. Buy all mats from AH. |
Low execution, high economics |
Players on high-pop realms with active Crafting Order markets and willingness to track AH prices |

Bemarrin is in Silvermoon City on the west side of the Bazaar, slightly south of the Bridge to the Isle of Quel'danas. Waypoint: /way Silvermoon City 48.5 62.0. Ask a guard in Silvermoon for "Blacksmithing" and he'll mark the map. Or use the waypoint and never ask a guard for anything ever again.
Depends entirely on your goal. For personal gear: Weaponsmithing first. For Crafting Order gold: Armorsmithing (more slots = more orders). For consumable/AH play: The Old Ways for stat efficiency, then Craftsmithing for Tool Stones. For profession tool supply: Craftsmithing. The honest answer is: decide between Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing first, because picking the wrong one and regretting it for six weeks is a WoW tradition.
Trainer recipes go grey around skill 70. This is intentional — the game is telling you to specialize. Your options past 70 are: unlock Craftsmithing to spam Blue profession gear (1 skill each), save Fused Vitality for Epic gear crafts (3 skill each), or complete Patron/Player Crafting Orders for epic gear (3 skill each). There is no "just keep crafting the same thing" option past 70.
Primarily: Refulgent Copper Ore (everything), Brilliant Silver Ore (Sterling Alloy — your 50–70 grind), and Umbral Tin Ore (Gloaming Alloy — small amounts early). Dazzling Thorium is a rare bonus proc from any ore mining and is required for Blue profession gear crafting. All four ore types can be found in every Midnight zone — unlike previous expansions, you are not zone-locked for specific ore.
There are 8 treasures giving 24 total Knowledge Points. Three in Silvermoon City, two in Eversong Woods, one each in Zul'Aman, Harandar, and Voidstorm. Full waypoints are in the KP section above. The Zul'Aman treasure (Carefully Racked Spear) may be phased — advance further in the campaign before looking if it doesn't appear. The Harandar one is on top of a mushroom, because of course it is.
Armorsmithing unlocks 9 item slots (more total Crafting Orders possible). Weaponsmithing covers a broader range of item types across fewer slots but has Weaponstones — a consistent weekly consumable income stream. Armorsmithing is better if your server has active raiders using Crafting Orders. Weaponsmithing is better if you're a melee class who wants personal weapons, or if you want consumable income. If you can't decide, start Armorsmithing — more slots means more passive Patron Order opportunities.
Short version: Crafting Orders in Week 1, consumables long-term. Full answer: use Concentration only for epic gear Crafting Orders with premium reagents. Supply Sterling Alloy in bulk during launch week when crafters can't make it themselves yet. Get your Weaponstones recipe through Weaponsmithing spec and sell them weekly. Craft profession tools (Craftsmithing spec) all expansion because new alts need gear constantly. Do not vendor Artisan Blacksmith's Moxie.
Dark Iron Dwarf or Lightforged Draenei (both Alliance) get +5 Blacksmithing skill and the ability to summon a forge/anvil anywhere. Dark Iron Dwarf additionally gets 10% faster Blacksmithing speed. No Horde race has Blacksmithing-specific racials. If you're Horde and want to play Blacksmithing optimally, compensate through specialization, profession tools, and accepting that the Alliance occasionally wins something.
