Black Ops 7 Season 5 brings four new weapons: FG42, Gremlin, Mammoth, and Mace, plus fresh attachments and prestige rewards across multiplayer and Warzone.
Black Ops 7 Season 5 weapons arrived on July 23 with four new toys and a battle pass that expects you to grind for half of them. Two are free on the pass, one is an event reward, and one is a melee stick you swing at people who annoyed you in chat. Nobody got a mid-season weapon promise this time, so enjoy what you have.
The headline additions are the FG42 assault rifle, the Gremlin SMG, the Mammoth LMG, and the Mace. Three shoot bullets, one just wants to crush skulls, and all four exist to keep you opening loadout menus at 2 AM instead of sleeping.
The FG42 assault rifle is fully automatic, hits hard, fires at a respectable rate, and handles like it's carrying regrets. It has a short open bolt delay before that first shot, so tap the trigger expecting instant gratification and you'll die confused. Its prestige reward is the ambilateral stock, which boosts fire rate and nearly erases horizontal recoil while punishing your aim speed and mobility for the privilege.
The Gremlin SMG is a dual-wield setup built entirely around not aiming down sights, because apparently that's a selling point now. It trades range for absurd mobility and the best hip fire accuracy in its class, which is developer speak for run at people and hope. Its prestige attachment, the Cestus Barrel, adds spikes for extra melee damage and better movement, because someone decided an SMG needed to also be a knife.
The mid-season update has zero confirmed weapons attached to it, which means every gun you're getting this season already showed up at launch or is buried behind a grind. Plan accordingly, or don't, and just complain on social media like everyone else.
The Mammoth LMG shows up later as an event reward and brings twin reciprocating barrels, heavy damage, and the mobility of a filing cabinet. It's built for suppressing lanes, not winning footraces. Its prestige part, the Cascade Barrel, removes the pre-fire delay and improves ADS movement and recoil, at the cost of a slower ADS speed overall, because nothing in this game gets to be good without a catch.
The Mace is a melee weapon earned through a weekly challenge, and it has no prestige attachment because it's a stick, not a science project. It does get its own camo grind, so if you enjoy punishing yourself, prestige a melee weapon and report back.
Weapon | Type | Unlock Method | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
FG42 | Assault Rifle | Battle Pass, early tier | Mid to long range, patient players |
Gremlin | Dual SMG | Battle Pass, later tier | Close range, aggressive rushing |
Mammoth | LMG | In-season event | Objective defense, lane control |
Mace | Melee | Weekly challenge | Making a statement |
Nearly every weapon attachment Season 5 drop is coming through weekly challenges instead of the battle pass, so the grind never actually stops. The Yeager 45 Grid Breaker turns that pistol into a recharging EMP device that barely damages anyone but wrecks their electronics, which is the digital equivalent of a prank call. The Novaline Grands Conversion turns the Novaline into something resembling an M1 Garand, for players who miss simpler decades. A new thermal reflex optic is landing on most primary weapons, and whether you like it depends entirely on how much you enjoy staring at a glowing dot arguing with your eyeballs.
The M15 Mod Zero gets a .50 cal kit that converts it into a sniper variant, trading fire rate and recoil control for range and stopping power. The RK9 Calibrated Strike System is a new barrel with undisclosed stats, meaning it's probably locked behind Season 5 Reloaded and nobody's telling you anything yet. Same story for the Peacekeeper MK1 Gauss Accelerator, a fire mod with details still under wraps.
Every new gun this season ships with a prestige attachment except the Mace, because prestige on a melee weapon is just extra camo suffering. Full patch notes covering actual BO7 weapon meta balance changes, buffs, and nerfs across multiplayer, zombies, and Endgame haven't dropped yet, so treat any meta claims right now as fan fiction.
As for Warzone Season 5 update performance, the Mammoth's slow handling and the Gremlin's no-ADS design make them wildcards there, good in theory, awkward in a battle royale where distance kills you as often as bullets do. If you're chasing Call of Duty new weapons content every season, congratulations, this is your personality now.
