Black Ops 7 Season 5 is live. New Zombies map, Rex Infernus finale, Directed Mode, and Rogue Run rewards await inside this brutal survival guide.

Black Ops 7 Season 5 drops on July 23, and it drags the entire Zombies storyline to its grave in one bloated update. Two new maps land this season: Eidskallen Lighthouse at launch, a Survival map frozen on Beacon Island, and Rex Infernus at mid-season, the round-based finale where you finally get to watch the Warden die. Everything else, the Directed Mode training wheels, the Rogue Run playlists, the new Wonder Weapon, exists to keep you clicking until August.
Eidskallen Lighthouse is not subtle about what it wants from you. It hands you a confined slice of Totenreich, some ice, and a Lighthouse, then expects you to push rounds until you either quit or lose feeling in your hands. Milestone rewards exist so the grind feels productive, which is a nice lie the developers tell you. Survive to round ten and you get an animated emblem, because apparently pixels are payment now.
| Round | Reward | XP |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Valhallan Animated Emblem | 1,000 |
| 25 | Eidskallen's Light Weapon Charm | 2,500 |
| 50 | Gift Card GobbleGum | 5,000 |
For anyone still lost in Kowakujō, Season 5 finally installs a leash. Directed Mode slaps on-screen quest steps onto the map and caps the run at round fifteen, which is the developers' quiet way of admitting the original quest was needlessly cruel. Pair that with the new Starting Room option, which strips your loadout and drops you into the Outer Ward with nothing, and you get two extremes: babysat or abandoned.
The mid-season update is the only part of Season 5 that actually matters for the story. Everything before Rex Infernus is filler dressed up as content.
Rogue Run: Astra Malorum adds three roguelite playlists, Casual, Normal, and Hardcore, where you beat a round, pick an upgrade, and get teleported somewhere new to die differently. It is the same power fantasy every roguelite sells, wrapped in Zombies skin, and it works because Calling Cards and GobbleGums are dangled at every tier.
Rex Infernus is where the season earns its keep. It drops you into a volcanic castle guarding the World Seed, staffed by the Oni, a heavy-armored brute swinging a spiked kanobō and slinging electricity, alongside Scorched Zombies and Hellhounds for texture. A new Wonder Weapon shows up here too, along with the returning Widow's Wine Perk-a-Cola and two Ultra-Rarity legacy weapons, the Olympia and the TR2, because nostalgia sells better than balance.
Release Window | Content | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Launch, July 23 | Eidskallen Lighthouse Survival | Round milestone rewards, 3-hour leaderboards |
Launch, July 23 | Kowakujō Directed Mode | On-screen quest steps, round 15 cap |
Launch, July 23 | Rogue Run: Astra Malorum | Three difficulty playlists |
Mid-Season, August | Rex Infernus | Final round-based map, new Wonder Weapon |
If you only care about efficient farming, Eidskallen Lighthouse's leaderboard system resets every three hours, which means the Harbinger and Ragnarök camos are less about skill and more about how many of those windows you are willing to burn. The DS20 Mirage blueprint drops from the same grind, so budget your evening accordingly, because the game certainly did not budget your patience.
Season 5 is billed as the last full-scale seasonal update before Modern Warfare 4 lands in October, so Treyarch is not holding anything back for a Season 6 that will not exist. Whatever loose threads Kowakujō left dangling get answered inside Rex Infernus, and whatever GobbleGums you have not farmed yet, this is the last real excuse to bother.
