BO7 Season 5 Patch Notes: Every Weapon Nerf and Buff

The Black Ops 7 Season 5 patch notes dropped, and Treyarch spent most of its energy gutting the AN-94, buffing the DS20 Mirage, and quietly ripping skill based matchmaking out of the core Featured Playlists. If you only read one paragraph today, make it this one, because everything below is just the autopsy report.

Call of Duty Boost

Season 5 went live on Thursday, July 23, 2026, and it arrived with the usual seasonal ritual. one gun gets executed in public, another gets resurrected, and the community argues about both for two weeks straight.

Assault Rifles Take the Hit

This round of BO7 weapon tuning starts with the rifle that everyone reported and nobody stopped using. The AN-94 nerf removes its four shot kill to the body at max range, so the hyperburst finally has to share a lobby with weapons that were not mathematically unfair. It was a DLC weapon behaving exactly like a DLC weapon is designed to behave, and now it behaves slightly less like one.

The DS20 Mirage dual fire kit gets the opposite treatment. Both fire modes now share one ammo pool instead of forcing two separate reloads, attachments finally affect the alternate fire mode, and the kit improves movement speed and sprint to fire time instead of quietly sabotaging them. The base gun was already strong, the dual fire kit was a cosmetic downgrade, and now it is an actual upgrade.

Nobody asked for a rework that makes a fun toy also good, but here we are, and it is somehow the most competent change in the entire patch.

SMGs and Marksman Rifles Get Rearranged

The Ryden 45K receives a fix for misaligned iron sights during ADS, filed, for reasons known only to Treyarch, under a completely unrelated section header. The Carbon 57 Fabricator Mag now waits a full second before refilling ammo after firing, which taxes the exact aggressive playstyle that made the gun worth using in the first place.

The Swordfish A1 nerf increases base burst fire delay and guts the Penta Burst mod's recoil control and delay reduction, so a gun that was already fading out of lobbies fades a little faster. Meanwhile the M8A1 quietly gets buffed with a new neck multiplier and a stronger Dead Eye barrel, because someone has to replace the guns getting nerfed.

Executioner's DuetMeleeBug fix

Smaller items round out the patch. The CODA 9 pistol's MFS Deltacell Bulk Mag no longer causes unintended damage falloff at range. The A.R.C. M1 launcher can now use its Assault Frame while equipped through the Flyswatter wildcard. The Executioner's Duet melee weapon finally swings at the speed it was supposed to swing at all along.

Iron Rain Stops Being a Joke

The Iron Rain scorestreak gets a real buff this season. health rises from 1650 to 1850, bomb drop time drops from 2.68 seconds to 2.42, and Flak Jacket no longer protects against its bombs. It was already decent, players simply refused to run it, and now the streak might actually punish that refusal.

SBMM Removed and Matchmaking Gets a BO1 Facelift

SBMM removed from Black Ops 7 is the headline nobody buried in the fine print, and it applies to Black Ops Classic, Party Games, and Quick Play. The new system prioritizes connection first, then splits lobbies by skill afterward, mirroring how Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 handled it.

The catch with this Black Ops 7 matchmaking update is population. Black Ops 1 and 2 still pull roughly 5.5 million players combined, which makes connection based matchmaking actually function. BO7's population is nowhere near that, so the format change may end up mattering less than the announcement suggests.

New Maps, Modes, and Guns

  • Jubilee arrives as a new 6v6 map set in a rural Japanese town.
  • Frequency returns as a remastered 6v6 map originally from Black Ops 4.
  • Dig lands as a remastered 6v6 map pulled from Black Ops 2.
  • Overdrive Domination and Gauntlet Rush join the mode rotation this season.
  • The FG42, the dual wield Gremlin SMG, and the Mammoth LMG join the weapon roster.

Anyone chasing Black Ops 7 Season 5 new maps gets three at once, two of them recycled from older Black Ops titles, which tells you exactly where the design budget went this cycle. New attachments also land alongside the guns, including the Jaeger 45 Grid Breaker, the M34 Novaline conversion for the M1 Garand, the EAM reflex sight, and the M15 MOD 0 .50 cal conversion.

Season 5 leans hard on nostalgia, borrows its matchmaking philosophy from a fifteen year old game, and still finds time to bury a genuine SMG fix under the wrong heading. Read the numbers, adjust the loadout, and stop crying about the AN-94, it had a good run.
