Patch 12.0.5 PTR brings Void Assaults to Midnight! Disrupting Strikes and Incursions in Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman. Gear, achievements, and Trading P
Void Assaults operate on a strict weekly zone rotation. Only one zone is active at a time. When the PTR launched 12.0.5 testing, Zul'Aman was designated the first active zone, with Eversong Woods scheduled to take over the following week. This rotation repeats indefinitely, giving each zone approximately equal playtime across a season.
The weekly swap matters because it deliberately focuses player traffic. Rather than spreading activity thinly across both zones simultaneously, Blizzard concentrates participation into a single location per week. This keeps event density high, ensures enough players are present to complete the communal Incursion capstone, and creates a cleaner weekly rhythm for tracking your progress toward achievement thresholds.
Eversong Woods sits at the northern end of Quel'Thalas, a once-pristine magical forest now bearing the scars of the Scourge, the Legion, and now the Void. The Void Assault quest for this zone is Void Assaults: Eversong Woods, which requires completing five Activities and three Major Attacks.
Zul'Aman is the ancient fortress-city of the Amani tribe, a place already saturated with trollish blood magic and old curses. In 12.0.5 it also becomes saturated with Void energy. The Void Assault quest for this zone is Void Assaults: Zul'Aman, which requires completing five Strikes and three Major Attacks.
Zone Rotation SummaryBlizzard confirmed in the initial PTR development notes: "Zul'Aman Void Assaults are available this week and will rotate to Eversong Woods Void Assaults next week." Check your in-game calendar each week to confirm which zone is active before you fly out there with great enthusiasm and find nothing happening.
Void Assaults operate on a two-tier escalation model. Understanding the distinction between the two tiers is not optional — it directly affects how you engage, what rewards you earn, and what quest objectives you are actually completing at any given time.
Void Strikes are the smaller, more frequent, and individually soloable or small-group tier of the system. They rotate continuously through the active zone: once one Strike completes, a new one spawns in a different part of the same zone and becomes the active target. Scout markers update on the world map to indicate each new Strike's location. Void Strikes are the bread and butter of daily engagement with the system, and they are what most of the achievement tracking is built around.
Per the zone-specific quests, completing Void Strikes counts toward the "Strikes disrupted" and "Activities" objective counters for both Void Assaults: Eversong Woods and Void Assaults: Zul'Aman. Each zone's quest requires five of these to be disrupted alongside three Major Attacks.
Void Incursions are the escalation-gated capstone of each assault cycle. They become available only after enough Void Strikes have been completed in the zone. Per Blizzard's development notes, Incursions "will take the might of many of Azeroth's champions to defeat them" — this is the communal, large-scale encounter at the top of the outdoor loop, not just a slightly bigger Strike. Incursions are the events most likely to require grouping, benefit from raid-size participation, and reward accordingly.
The Major Attack NPC objects in the zone quest data confirm this structure. Eversong Woods requires completing Major Attack objectives (NPC ID 257796) three times, while Zul'Aman requires the equivalent Major Attack (NPC ID 257769) three times. Both the Strikes and Incursions count toward achievement credit and the overarching weekly meta-quest.

The quest system for Void Assaults follows a two-level structure: a zone-specific weekly quest that drives your immediate participation, and an overarching meta-quest that rewards the more substantial weekly prize.
These are the bread-and-butter quests you pick up from your local commander in the active zone. Only one is available at a time depending on the weekly rotation.

The Midnight: Void Assaults quest is the overarching meta-quest that tracks completion of Void Strikes and Incursions broadly across Midnight. Its completion counter requires one "Hostile Activities Disrupted" — meaning finishing either the Eversong or Zul'Aman zone weekly satisfies the meta. The reward for completing this quest is a weekly Spark of Radiance.
Macro Check SnippetYou can verify quest completion status in-game using the following macros:
/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(95842)) — Meta quest
/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(94385)) — Eversong weekly
/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(94386)) — Zul'Aman weekly
Within each active Void Assault zone, Strikes present a rotating series of specific objective types. PTR testing and official Blizzard notes confirm four distinct objective categories, which cycle through the active zone and repopulate as each is resolved. Understanding each type lets you prioritize efficiently and avoid the particular embarrassment of standing next to a very obvious objective and asking chat what to do.
Dimensional tears in the fabric of reality, because apparently Quel'Thalas has enough problems already. To close a Void Rift, players must defeat the enemies pouring through it. The rift itself closes once the wave is cleared. These tend to be the most straightforward objective type and can typically be handled solo or with a small group. The damage output from the spawned enemies scales with how long the rift has been open, so arriving promptly is rewarded and arriving late is mildly punishing in the way that only eldritch dimensional breaches can be.
The ancient Sin'dorei wardstone network runs throughout Eversong Woods. In their corrupted state they serve as beacons and amplifiers for Void energy rather than the protective talismans they were designed to be. Cleansing them requires players to channel on the wardstone while simultaneously defending against waves of void attackers. This is a two-handed objective: you cannot channel and dodge everything, so either coordinate with other players to handle the interrupts and add management, or accept that you will be repeatedly knocked out of your channel by something unpleasant. Your choice. This objective type feeds directly into the Trading Post activity Void Assaults: Defeat 20 Corrupted Creatures.
Elite void commanders that roam the zone with protective retinues. These are the named, beefier enemies of the Strike tier. Tracking them down requires following your minimap markers as they move between patrol points. The retinue must typically be thinned before the Commander becomes fully targetable or loses its damage reduction. These are the most rewarding in terms of Field Accolade yield per encounter and the most likely to require a partner or small group at typical Midnight Season 1 item levels.
Physical void constructs embedded in the landscape that corrupt the surrounding wildlife and vegetation. Destroying them is mechanically simpler than the wardstone cleanse — no channeling required, just targeted damage — but they are typically guarded and the corrupted wildlife they generate will continue to attack the area until the anchor is destroyed. This objective type is the primary driver behind the Trading Post activity for flying through enemies.
The primary weekly reward for completing the meta-quest Midnight: Void Assaults is a Spark of Radiance. Per its tooltip on PTR: completing this quest can reward you with a weekly Spark of Radiance, which is usable by professions to create powerful weapons and armor. This makes Void Assault participation directly relevant to the crafting order economy — players who want crafted gear, or crafters who want to supply it, have an explicit weekly incentive to engage with assaults.
Field Accolades are the new patch 12.0.5 outdoor currency earned from both Void Assaults and Ritual Sites. They are exchangeable at vendors for Champion-quality and Heroic-quality gear and rewards. Field Accolades also serve as the progression currency behind the two long-running outdoor achievement lines: Outstanding in the Field (100 Field Accolades) and Accolade to Rest (500 Field Accolades). Accolades are earned from both Void Strikes and Incursions, with Incursions providing the higher yield per event.
Void Incursions contribute to the World content row of the Great Vault, the weekly reward chest. Completing Incursions alongside Delves and Prey Hunts fills the World row slots, making Void Assault participation part of the weekly Great Vault optimization loop for players pursuing Vault rewards on top of their field currency.

Gear Quality Note"Champion" and "Heroic" quality in Midnight's item track terminology correspond to mid-tier Season 1 item levels. Field Accolade vendor gear provides a meaningful catch-up path for players who are not yet raiding or pushing high Mythic+ keys, and a supplemental gear path for those who are. Specific item levels and vendor costs were still being tuned on PTR at the time of this writing.
Void Assaults come with two parallel four-achievement series — one for each zone — plus two cross-system Field Accolade achievements that reward long-term engagement. Every achievement in both zone series tracks the same type of credit: completing Void Strikes or Incursions in the designated zone. There is no distinction at the achievement level between Strikes and Incursions — both count toward all thresholds.

Completing 50 Strikes or Incursions per zone for the Void Bane achievements across both zones is a total of 100 completions. With a weekly rotation, you are looking at a minimum of several weeks of consistent participation. Planning around Incursions — which count the same as Strikes for achievement credit but offer better rewards — is the sensible approach. Incursions also contribute to the Field Accolade total for the cross-system achievements, so they do triple duty.

Patch 12.0.5 integrates Void Assaults deeply into the Traveler's Log (Trading Post) monthly activity system. Six distinct Trading Post activities reference Void Assaults directly, offering a combined haul of Travel Points for players who engage with the system regularly. These activities are separate from the achievement series and reset on the Trading Post's monthly cadence rather than the weekly assault rotation.
