Upgrading your vessel is one of the most exciting parts of Windrose! To get your ship battle-ready, you will be using two distinct buildings that work hand-in-hand. Understanding the difference between them will make your naval progression incredibly smooth and rewarding.
To successfully upgrade your ship, it helps to know how these two structures complement each other:

- The Wharf = Installing the upgrades.
If you open your build menu early on and notice the Wharf isn't there yet, please don't worry! The Wharf is tied directly to your main story progression, ensuring you introduce it to your base at just the right moment.
To make the Wharf option appear in your build menu, you will just need to complete a few early milestones:
As soon as you reach this objective, the Wharf will beautifully reveal itself as an available option in your construction menu!
When you have met the prerequisites and are ready to place your brand-new Wharf, the process is very straightforward:

Placement is not optional trivia. Like the Fast Travel Bell, the Windrose Wharf placement coastline requirement means the building must be positioned along the coastline, near the water. It will refuse to snap into place on dry land with the energy of something deeply principled. If you have built your base far from the shoreline, that is a personal problem you created for yourself.

Walk onto the platform and press E to interact with the table. You will see two tabs. Both of them matter. Neither of them is decorative.
This is the tab that answers the question your cannons have been silently asking since you crafted them. how to add cannons to ship Windrose: finally, here is your answer: select your ship from the Docked Ships section, click Manage Ship, and drag the upgrades from your inventory into the Ship Gear slots. The interface is drag-and-drop, which is either intuitive or infuriating depending on your relationship with drag-and-drop interfaces.

There is also a Customization tab, accessible near "Cargo and Gear," where you can change your ship's sails, flags, and name. The name feature exists because apparently some captains want their vessel to be called something other than the default. The second tab, Shipyard, is where new vessels are constructed. As you progress through the game and increase your standing with the four Factions, additional ship types unlock. Windrose Ketch Brig Frigate unlock progression follows the general principle that everything good requires either patience, faction reputation, or a significant investment of materials that you don't have yet.

If your ship gets destroyed: by Blackbeard's fleet, by your own navigational confidence, or by some combination of the above: do not spiral. The Windrose ship repair Wharf respawn feature exists precisely for this situation. Walk up to your Wharf, pay 20 Wood, and press K to respawn your ship fully repaired.
Twenty wood. For a whole ship. The economy of this transaction is so one-sided in your favor that it's almost embarrassing, and yet players consistently forget it exists and spend ten minutes wondering if they have to start over. They do not. You do not. Pay the wood and press K.
The ship respawn feature is locked until you complete the cannon crafting quest: the same quest that unlocks the Wharf itself. So if you haven't done the questline yet, this information is a lovely future gift from your current self.
Not everything in Windrose deserves immediate construction. Your base has limited space, limited resources, and a limited window before you are distracted by something shiny in the ocean. The Windrose base building priority Wharf placement in the priority list looks roughly like this:
If you are not playing seriously: skip steps one through four and just go see what kills you. The Wharf will wait. The game, however, will not.
The game promises Windrose naval combat ship cannons strategy of meaningful depth, and it mostly delivers once you stop sailing an unupgraded Ketch at enemies who have clearly read the patch notes. A few things worth knowing:
The Windrose co-op multiplayer ship crew options allow players to divide responsibilities: one person fires cannons while another repairs, and a third presumably argues about navigation. The system supports it, which is either a feature or an accurate simulation of actual maritime conflict depending on who is in your crew.

Searching for a pre-built Wharf in Tortuga or anywhere else in the world. There isn't one. You build it. It has always been your responsibility. Tortuga is for faction vendors and NPC workers, not for infrastructure you were meant to construct yourself.
Building the Wharf away from the water. It will not function. The placement indicator exists to prevent this; ignoring it is a choice only you can make and only you will regret.
Crafting everything at the Shipwright's Workshop and then wandering to your ship and pressing E hoping something will happen. The "manage the gear of your Ship while close to a Wharf" message is the game's polite way of telling you that you have done it wrong. Go to the Wharf. Manage from there. This is not negotiable.
Panicking when your ship is destroyed. 20 Wood, press K at the Wharf. Done. Go do it immediately instead of reading about it here.
You don't find it: you build it. Open the build menu (B), navigate to Crafting and Utilities, and place it along the coastline after completing the unlock quests.
Because you're probably standing next to your ship, not a Wharf. Build the Wharf, interact with the table, select your ship, and drag upgrades into the Ship Gear slots.
Workshop crafts the upgrades. Wharf installs them onto the ship. Both are required. Confusing them costs you roughly forty-five minutes of frustration.
No. Go to your Wharf, pay 20 Wood, press K. Ship respawns fully repaired. This only works after completing the cannon crafting quest.
