Paradox Junction Zombies Guide
Counter Skies drops Mar 17 in BO7 S2 Reloaded. Unlock the Swordfish A1 for free, grind camos, and pretend 1,100 CP for the premium track is reasonable
Counter Skies is a limited-time event pass inside Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 2 Reloaded. It works like every CoD event pass before it: you play the game, you earn XP, a little progress bar fills up, and virtual items fall out like a vending machine that hates you slightly less than usual.
The pass has two tracks — a Free Track (because Activision is generous, obviously) and a Premium Track that costs 1,100 COD Points (because Activision is a publicly traded company, obviously). XP earned in any mode — Multiplayer, Zombies, Warzone, Endgame, and the brand-new Black Ops Royale — counts toward your Counter Skies progress. So no, you don't get to escape this by hiding in Zombies.
The big-ticket item on the free side is the Swordfish A1 Marksman Rifle, a four-round burst monster returning from Black Ops 4 and making its BO7 debut. On the premium side, you get operator skins, weapon blueprints, and a finishing move — the kind of content that keeps Activision's quarterly earnings looking healthy.
Fun fact: Counter Skies is themed around Black Ops Royale, Warzone's new Blackout-inspired battle royale mode. So the event celebrating the game's newest mode requires you to... play any mode you want. Riveting thematic cohesion.
Mark your calendar. Or don't. The FOMO will remind you.
Season 2 Reloaded itself dropped on March 11, with Black Ops Royale launching on March 12. Counter Skies begins a few days later so you have time to download the 47GB update and question your life choices.
Sixteen days sounds generous until you realize you also have the Altitude Tactics event, weekly challenges, Ranked Series, the Paradox Junction Zombies map calling your name, and presumably a job and/or school. Treyarch truly believes sleep is a crutch.
The stuff you get for existing. How generous.
The Free Track contains 9 reward tiers plus a mastery reward (the Swordfish A1). You earn progress by gaining XP across all modes. That's it. No special challenges, no specific kill requirements — just play the game and the bar fills up. Revolutionary game design.

Complete all 9 free track tiers to unlock the Swordfish A1, a four-round burst marksman rifle with minimal recoil and devastating one-burst potential. It ships with 39 weapon levels, its own Penta Burst prestige attachment (adds a 5th round per burst at the cost of recoil), and 3 exclusive prestige camos. This is the real reason you're here. Everything else is just filler padding the road to this.

Buying the Premium Track for 1,100 CP unlocks a parallel reward path. You earn these alongside the free rewards — same XP, same bar, just more things falling out. The premium side leans heavily into blueprints, cosmetics, and a finishing move for when you need your kill to feel personal.

PREMIUM TRACK MASTERY REWARD
"Hedge" — Operator Skin
Claim all 9 premium tiers and you receive the Hedge operator skin. It looks like someone stapled a ghillie suit to a fighter pilot and said "ship it." Once you've unlocked Hedge, you've officially completed the entire Counter Skies Event Pass — both tracks, 100%, done. Go outside.

The Swordfish A1 is a four-round burst marksman rifle returning from Black Ops 4, now classified as a marksman rifle in BO7. It fires in quick four-round bursts with very low recoil, meaning if you land three of those four shots at typical engagement ranges, the target simply ceases to exist. That's a one-burst kill in most scenarios.
Weapon Stats Snapshot
Swordfish A1 — Marksman Rifle
The Swordfish A1 fits neatly into the current meta as a flexible mid-range option. It competes with the M8A1 for burst-fire supremacy but trades some versatility for raw one-burst lethality. If you like the idea of clicking on someone once and watching them evaporate, this is your gun.
Pro tip: The Penta Burst mod turns your four-round burst into five rounds. This means you now have one extra bullet to miss with. Progress.
Counter Skies is an XP-based progression event. There are no separate "event challenges" to micromanage — you just play the game and earn XP. Any mode counts. This is both a blessing (simplicity) and a curse (pure time investment). Here's how to minimize the hours sacrificed at the altar of Treyarch:
Short match times + high kill counts = fastest XP per hour. Domination and Hardpoint generate the most score through captures, objective kills, and assists. If you want this done fast, MP is non-negotiable.
Run UAV and Counter-UAV as scorestreaks. They cost almost nothing, regenerate after a couple kills, and passively farm assist XP for every enemy your team kills while they're active. This is the oldest trick in the CoD playbook and it still works.
If PvP makes your blood pressure spike, Zombies is genuinely efficient. Long runs produce massive kill counts. Four-stack recommended — faster round cycling means more total kills per session.
The new BR mode also contributes to Counter Skies progress. Kills, contracts, survival time — it all feeds the bar. Warzone Resurgence works similarly. If you're grinding BR anyway, your event progress comes for free.
Activate the Strategist Combat Specialty (three green perks). It boosts score for objective actions, speeds up equipment use, and highlights enemy gadgets through walls. Pair with Gearhead, Tech Mask, and Guardian for maximum point extraction per life.
Unlike leaderboard events, Counter Skies is XP-based. Your double XP tokens actually help here. Pop them during your longest play sessions for maximum value. That 1HR token from Tier 3? Use it immediately.
TL;DR Speed Strategy
Run Domination or Hardpoint in Multiplayer. Equip UAV + Counter-UAV + Trophy System. Use Strategist specialty with Gearhead/Tech Mask/Guardian. Pop double XP tokens. If you get bored, switch to Zombies or Black Ops Royale. You have 16 days — even casual players (1–2 hours daily) should comfortably clear the free track.
Which hamster wheel spins fastest?
The Tryhard Expressway
Best for: Raw speed. Short matches, high kills, constant objective score. Domination and Hardpoint are the optimal modes. Nuketown if you want chaos. The Forge for longer, higher-scoring matches. If you can stomach SBMM putting you against people who play this game for a living, MP is objectively the fastest route.
The Cozy Massacre
Best for: Relaxed grinding without PvP stress. Long Zombies runs generate absurd kill counts, and four-player squads cycle rounds faster. Push rounds aggressively instead of hoarding points — faster cycling means more total XP. Also great for simultaneously working on weapon camos while you grind. Two birds, one undead horde.
The Scenic Route
Best for: People who are going to play BR anyway. XP rewards survival time, kills, and contract completions. Black Ops Royale specifically gives decent XP since matches tend to be longer and more engagement-heavy than standard BR. Not the fastest method, but if you're already dropping into Avalon every night, the Counter Skies progress is a free bonus.
The Forgotten Child
Best for: Endgame mains who exist (reportedly). Co-Op and Endgame mode XP counts toward Counter Skies. The new Glitch Fractures and Nightmare Skills in Season 2 Reloaded make Endgame more rewarding than ever — but let's be honest, most people forget this mode exists until they see it on a challenge list.
80 headshots? In THIS economy?
Once you unlock the Swordfish A1, the real grind begins: camo challenges across every mode. The Swordfish follows BO7's standard camo progression — base camos through headshots/kills, special camos for specific objectives, then mastery camos that require completing the base set across multiple weapons. Here's what you're signing up for:
1,000 critical kills in Zombies. One thousand. That's not a challenge, that's a lifestyle commitment. But sure, knock yourself out. The Emerald Snake camo probably looks great through the tears.

Beyond the base and special camos, the Swordfish A1 follows standard BO7 mastery progression: unlock all base camos → Shattered Gold → need Gold on 3 marksman rifles → Arclight → need Arclight on 30 weapons → and so on through Diamond, Singularity, and beyond. The weapon also has Weapon Prestige levels up to Master Prestige 250, each with their own camo tiers. Sleep is for the weak.
The question you clicked this guide to answer honestly.
Let's break it down with uncomfortable objectivity.
What you get for 1,100 CP (~$10): Three operator skins (Underbrush, plus the mastery Hedge), a melee blueprint, a finishing move, two weapon blueprints (Field Hunt RK-9 and Waylay DS20 Mirage), an emote, a calling card, a sticker, and a gun screen.
The Case FOR Buying
The Waylay DS20 Mirage AR blueprint and Field Hunt RK-9 SMG blueprint are both solid weapon skins for guns that sit comfortably in the current meta. The Loot Grab finishing move is fun if you enjoy psychological warfare. And the Hedge mastery skin is exclusive — once the event ends, it's gone. If you collect operator skins like a digital hoarder, this is your last chance.
The Case AGAINST Buying
The actual gameplay-relevant rewards — the Swordfish A1 and the Echo 12 Backlash Launcher Kit — are both on the free track. The premium side is pure cosmetics. If you don't care about how your virtual soldier's uniform looks in a first-person game where you can't see yourself, save your money. Also, stickers and gun screens are filler and we all know it.
Verdict: If you already have COD Points sitting in your account from the Battle Pass earning them back, and you genuinely like the blueprints, go for it. If you'd have to spend actual real-world currency? The free track has everything that matters. The Swordfish A1 doesn't cost a cent.
