Wow Midnight Legends of the Haranir guide
Ready to dominate the Voidstorm? Read our complete guide to Slayer's Rise in WoW Midnight, featuring 40v40 tactics and PvP reputation farms
Blood is the currency of the Voidstorm. Two domanaar lords: avatars of Hate and Grief: have invited the most murderous members of both factions to their playground, and they want a spectacle. This guide will ensure that spectacle features your enemies on the losing end.
Slayer's Rise is both a 40-versus-40 instanced epic battleground and a persistent open-world PvP subzone occupying the northern reaches of Voidstorm: the endgame zone of World of Warcraft: Midnight, accessible from level 88 onward. It is the expansion's answer to the legacy grandeur of Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest: colossal, chaotic, and cruel to the uninformed. This guide is your antidote to ignorance: and your sword against everyone else in it.
The lore is straightforward in its brutality. Two domanaar: interdimensional entities who feed on conflict and violence: have established rival bastions in the northern Voidstorm zone and declared permanent war on each other. They are Vidious, the Domanaar of Grief, who commands the Grief Spire and has recruited the most bloodthirsty members of the Alliance; and Ziadan, the Domanaar of Hate, who commands the Hate Spire and has conscripted the most hate-fuelled members of the Horde. Both have pledged service to Xal'atath under duress: but have since made themselves "useless" to her, leaving them free to continue their personal war below her notice.
Their truce is a fiction. Vidious and Ziadan fought over this land for eons until they recognized a practical truth: their combined forces grind out better results than mutual annihilation. Slayer's Rise became their shared proving ground, a crucible that burns away the weak and forges a battle-hardened army for the war against Xal'atath: all while entertaining both domanaar with the spectacle of Horde and Alliance slaughtering each other endlessly in their name. You are, in their eyes, a beloved weapon being tested to destruction.
The domanaar do not consider your survival a goal. They consider your performance a metric. Impress them. Or perish entertainingly. Either outcome pleases them.
The zone was added in Patch 12.0.1 (February 10, 2026) alongside the launch of WoW Midnight. A hotfix on March 9, 2026 increased the likelihood of Slayer's Rise being selected when queuing for random epic battlegrounds: a clear signal that Blizzard intends the map to be well-populated and frequently visited.
There are two ways to experience Slayer's Rise: as a queued battleground instance and as a persistent open-world zone: and both require you to first reach the Voidstorm zone at level 88+.
Queue via the standard Player vs. Player interface. Look for Slayer's Rise under the Epic Battleground category, or queue for a random epic. Since the March 9 hotfix, your chances of landing in this map have been significantly boosted. The queue rewards the introductory quest Slayer's Rise on first completion: turn it in to Deminos Darktrance in Master's Perch (/way 38.8 81.6) for 250 Honor.
Navigate to the northern end of Voidstorm. The Slayer's Rise subzone is accessible to all players regardless of War Mode status, though the full suite of world PvP events: and all the meaningful bonus rewards: are locked behind War Mode activation. Crucially, you do not need to fly back to Orgrimmar or Stormwind to toggle War Mode. You can speak with either Vidious or Ziadan at Master's Perch to toggle War Mode on or off directly in the zone. This is a significant quality-of-life improvement: use it.
War Mode activation in Slayer's Rise also unlocks additional PvP quests, War Supply Crate spawns, and bonus Slayer's Duellum reputation gains. There is almost no reason to be in this zone without it enabled.
To unlock the Voidscar Arena dungeon storyline, pick up the faction-specific introductory quests: Alliance players take Voidscar Arena: The Grief Spire to report to Vidious; Horde players take Voidscar Arena: The Hate Spire to report to Ziadan.
Slayer's Rise is the first 40v40 epic battleground added to World of Warcraft in years, and it wears its inspirations on its blood-soaked sleeve. This is Alterac Valley's spiritual heir: massive, multi-phased, with optional objectives that reward teams that coordinate and punish teams that rush blindly at the boss. Its unique domanaar framing gives it lore-flavored mechanics atop the familiar Alterac Valley skeleton.
The objective is the assassination of the opposing faction's domanaar. Horde players must fight their way to the Grief Spire and execute Vidious. Alliance players must push to the Hate Spire and kill Ziadan. The path is not open by default: both spires are defended by layers of NPCs, destructible defenses, and up to 40 hostile players. Ziadan functions as Vanndar Stormpike's analog for Alliance kills; Vidious mirrors Drek'Thar for Horde kills.
Both teams spawn on opposite sides of the map and march toward the center. The Path of Predation is the contested middle corridor, and it opens with a full 40v40 brawl over an initial central control point. Controlling this point grants your team an early strategic advantage: better positioning for the lane push and first access to neutral NPC recruitments. Do not treat this as optional. Winning or contesting the central point sets the tempo for the entire match.
After the central skirmish resolves, both teams push down their lane toward the opposing base. The route is not a straight corridor: it passes through several key map locations including the Bastion of Might (Horde) and Bastion of Valor (Alliance). Destroying these defensive positions weakens the enemy base's resilience. Guarding your own equivalent: Stareater Pavilion and Shadow Ridge Outpost: prevents the enemy from gaining the same advantage against you.

A powerful recruitable creature that can be hired to assist your faction's attack. Capturing the neutral camp that holds him buffs your push significantly: treat this as a priority mid-objective.
An alternate elite recruitable NPC. Securing Kronus provides additional offensive firepower for the lane push. Coordinate with your team so you don't split 40 people pursuing both Griefspine Ultradon and Kronus simultaneously: one at a time.
A capturable mid-map point. Controlling it activates weapons of war that deal direct damage to the enemy team's home base. Even small, sustained damage to the opposing base adds up over a long match: do not ignore this objective.
Capturing these neutral NPC outposts earns allied defenders and lane-pushing reinforcements. Captured camps will fight alongside your faction and help both defend chokepoints and escort your push through enemy lines.
Scattered around the battlefield are black holes that grant the Take Flight buff when interacted with. This buff provides rapid aerial traversal across the enormous map: it is the single most important mobility tool in the battleground. Learning their locations and making a habit of using them separates players who arrive late to every skirmish from those who arrive first and set the terms of engagement.
Ignoring the Take Flight nodes is the number one reason players miss objectives, fail to defend, or show up to a fight three minutes after it ended. Memorize those black holes. They are your legs.
Beyond the instanced battleground, the Slayer's Rise open-world PvP zone runs a rotating schedule of events every 30 minutes. These are War Mode-exclusive and constitute the primary reputation-farming loop for the Slayer's Duellum faction. Each event pits Horde against Alliance for supremacy, with the victorious faction claiming reputation, loot, and honor. An additional always-on objective: the Void Posts: runs independently of the 30-minute cycle.
Three Void Posts are scattered across Slayer's Rise at all times: one north of the Hate Spire, one east of Master's Perch, and one north of the Grief Spire. Capturing a Void Post requires standing near its flag and repelling enemy attacks while the capture bar fills. Your HUD displays how many posts each faction currently holds. Controlling all three simultaneously grants every player of your faction the Risen Slayer buff: +5% damage done and +10% Honor gains. This buff is persistent, stackable in impact, and compounds across an entire session of open-world PvP. Establishing early Void Post dominance and defending it ruthlessly is one of the highest-value activities in the zone.
Two Domanaar Escort NPCs: one for each faction: spawn simultaneously and begin rushing toward a shared objective point. The first escort to arrive wins the event. Both escorts move at the same base speed, but can be slowed: every 5 attacks landed on an escort applies a stack of Domanaar Fatigue, slowing its movement by 5% for 10 seconds, and this effect stacks indefinitely. Winning requires a split strategy: enough players protecting your escort to prevent debuff stacking, and enough players attacking the enemy escort to keep it perpetually staggered.
The optimal split is roughly 60/40: the majority defending your escort, a harassment squad attacking theirs. A perfectly even 50/50 split usually loses, because your escort is equally slowed while theirs is only half-impeded.
Void-charged barrels spawn in the Bloodplains area. Players must siphon Void energy from these barrels and physically carry it to their faction's designated turn-in point: while preventing the enemy from doing the same. Critically, players carrying siphoned void cannot mount. This creates naked, vulnerable runners who are highly susceptible to interception. The 5-minute event ends when the timer expires; the faction with the most points banked wins. Expect ambushes. Plan escape routes. Do not run alone.
Three capturable areas surround the Shenzar Refinery. They function identically to classic WoW world PvP capture mechanics: stand in the zone to accumulate control points for your faction. The faction with the most accumulated points when the 5-minute timer expires wins. This event rewards sustained, organized pressure over three fronts simultaneously, meaning it punishes factions that concentrate all their players on a single point.
Shadowguard Ethereal areas throughout Slayer's Rise contain harvestable tools. Using an Ethereal Tool, players can collect Ethereal Energy from the environment and turn it in to Thraxadar (or the vendor Balaak the Twice-Exiled at the Shenzar Refinery) for temporary combat buffs. The catch: while holding a tool with disrupted ethereal energy, you are affected by powerful ethereal magic if you enter a disruption zone. Note that as of the March 9 hotfix, Ethereal Energy objects are now interactable with an Ethereal Tool even when the Ethereal Disruption event is not actively running: meaning you can farm energy outside of event windows.
During the Void Scavenge bonus event, Void-Tainted Remains drop 2–3× more frequently from all sources, including remains on the ground. This event exists specifically to accelerate the reputation turn-in quest Collecting Remains: 50 Void-Tainted Remains = 150 Slayer's Duellum reputation. This event has no weekly cap on turn-ins. During Void Scavenge, treasures can drop up to 10 Remains at once. Treat these windows as your highest-priority farming sessions.

One of Slayer's Rise's most distinct mechanics is its consumable buff system. Ethereal Energy harvested during Ethereal Disruption events: or purchased from Balaak the Twice-Exiled at the Shenzar Refinery: can be exchanged for temporary combat scrolls and potions that offer outsized advantages in PvP engagements. Each buff costs 100 Ethereal Energy.

Balaak the Twice-Exiled is the primary vendor for these consumables using raw Ethereal Energy. Bring supplies. Do not burn your energy stockpile on a whim: prioritize Portable Void Zeal and Void-Tinged Free Action Potions for objective runs, and Scroll of Fluidity for sustained combat phases.
Controlling all three Void Posts grants your entire faction the Risen Slayer passive buff for as long as you maintain control. At +5% damage and +10% Honor gains, this is not a vanity bonus: it translates directly to faster kills and materially improved reputation/honor farming rates over a session. In a 60-minute World PvP session, the compounding effect is substantial.

This section is where the guide earns its descriptor. The mechanics above describe what exists. This section describes how to exploit it, compress it, and use it to humiliate the enemy faction efficiently.
Optimal BG Action Order
Minimum Viable War Mode Session

The following observations have been forged from the zone's first weeks of live operation and represent the kind of insight that separates casual participants from players who make their enemies log off:
The Domanaar Escort event is decided in the first 20 seconds. If your faction doesn't immediately divide into a defense squad and an attack squad the moment the event starts, you will lose. There is no recovering from an uncontested enemy escort. Pre-coordinate in group chat before the timer hits zero.
Void Capture runners are walking targets. They cannot mount. They are moving slowly through a war zone with a glowing void effect on them. The correct counter is to position ambushers along the three most direct routes to the turn-in point and let them come to you. Chasing runners through open terrain is inefficient; intercepting them at chokepoints is not.
The Scroll of Town Portal is an escape tool, not a retreat tool. Use it the moment a fight turns, not after you've already burned half your health pool and burned through cooldowns. Preserve your HP for the next engage, not the fight you've already lost.
War Supply Crates are contested in practice. The 300 reputation per crate means both factions will rush them on spawn. Arrive with a group, not alone. A solo player approaching a freshly spawned crate in an open field is a corpse with extra steps.
The Duskbrute Harrower: the rarest reward in the zone: drops from the Slayer's Duellum Paragon Cache, available only after reaching Exalted and accumulating 10,000 reputation past it. Every suboptimal session is weeks added to that grind. Do not be suboptimal.
The Slayer's Duellum is the PvP-exclusive reputation faction of Slayer's Rise. Unlike the four main Warband-wide Renown factions of Midnight (Silvermoon Court, Amani Tribe, Hara'ti, and The Singularity), Slayer's Duellum operates on the traditional reputation model: Neutral through Exalted: and its progress is character-specific, not account-wide. It is entirely cosmetic and mount-focused in its rewards, making it optional for non-PvP players but essential for collectors, completionists, and anyone who wants to look extraordinarily dangerous.

Hotfix (2026-03-09): Resolved an issue preventing players from respawning at the Shenzar Refinery graveyard. This removes a particularly cruel spawn loop bug that trapped players mid-event.

Upon reaching Exalted with Slayer's Duellum, every additional 10,000 reputation awards one Slayer's Duellum Trove: the Paragon cache. Speak with Thraxadar at the northern end of Master's Perch to claim it. Each Trove has a chance to contain the Duskbrute Harrower mount or the Nova Companion Pet. These drop rates are not published, so continued Paragon farming is expected for completionists.
Reaching Renown 2 with The Singularity faction unlocks access to a Research Console that grants Voidlust: a buff that significantly improves farming speed in Slayer's Rise, particularly during War Mode crate engagements and contested objectives. This is obtainable from Void Researcher Anomander, the Singularity Renown Quartermaster. Progressing your Singularity Renown in parallel with your Slayer's Duellum grind is not optional if you want to be efficient.

The following are ongoing player concerns observed in Wowhead comments and Blizzard community forums as of mid-March 2026:
WoW Midnight PvP Season 1 began on March 17–18, 2026 (region-dependent). Slayer's Rise queues are now fully integrated into rated and unrated Epic Battleground pools. Conquest gear in Season 1 caps at item level 289: identical to Mythic track gear. Conquest cap begins at 1,600 per week with 800-point weekly increments. Honor gear from Silvermoon City vendors starts at item level 263, upgradeable to 289. If you are farming Slayer's Rise for honor income, the gear progression path is now fully online.
