Jeff the Land Shark is classified as a Strategist in the base game, meaning he heals. In Blood Hunt, his PvE-tuned kit transforms him into something more interesting: a sustained hybrid threat who heals teammates, melts vampire hordes with his water stream, and becomes genuinely catastrophic against bosses once his Forked Stream ability unlocks. The tradeoff is that he takes longer to come online than Squirrel Girl or Blade. He needs levels. He needs gear. He needs you to stop rushing and let the baby shark eat things in the correct order.
Jeff is not the ideal solo pick. His hybrid kit shines hardest in co-op where his healing output protects aggressive teammates while he simultaneously destroys enemies. Solo runs are survivable, but slower. If you want the most efficient Nightmare climb, pair Jeff with a DPS like Squirrel Girl and watch the efficiency numbers become offensive.

That first stat column is the reason Jeff exists. His primary fire heals and damages simultaneously: one stream, one trigger, two jobs. It pierces through targets in a line, which means positioning it correctly can heal a teammate while dealing damage to the enemy directly behind them. This is not a coincidence. This is the entire Jeff experience distilled into a single mechanic. Point the water at your tank. Watch the vampire behind the tank die. Pretend you planned it.

Jeff Blood Hunt gear follows the same four-slot system as every other hero: Weapon, Armor, Accessory, and Exclusive. The priorities, however, differ from your average DPS pick because Jeff needs to stay alive long enough for his Overflowing Waters build to become disgusting.
|
Slot |
Effect |
Priority for Jeff |
|
Exclusive |
Jeff-specific ability enhancement |
Highest priority. Directly amplifies Overflowing Waters and Joyful Splash output. Do not neglect this under any circumstances. |
|
Weapon |
Damage output increase |
High priority. More damage on the water stream means more pressure on bosses and waves simultaneously. |
|
Armor |
Health and damage resistance |
Critical on Nightmare. Jeff has 250 base HP in standard mode. Blood Hunt's PvE tuning helps, but armor is still required. |
|
Accessory |
Critical Rate, Block Rate, bonus effects |
Useful but tertiary. Stack healing amplification bonuses if available. Jeff's Aqua Burst cannot crit, so raw Crit Rate is less valuable here. |
Gear comes in five rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Your first several runs will be in the bottom two. This is the intended experience and also the worst part of the experience. Push through Normal difficulty clears, use the Forge to scrap redundant pieces into Uru Shards, and craft toward Rare Exclusive gear as your first meaningful power threshold.
When using the Forge to smelt gear into Uru Shards: prioritize crafting Jeff's Exclusive slot first, then Weapon. Exclusive gear for Jeff in Blood Hunt amplifies his PvE ability tuning directly. Running without an upgraded Exclusive is the fastest way to understand why the mode has difficulty levels.
Overflowing Waters Jeff build is the trait and gear configuration that amplifies Jeff's water-spit abilities into his primary damage and sustain engine for Blood Hunt. According to current performance data, Jeff works best when Overflowing Waters is the center of the build, enhancing his spitting abilities to cover swarms of vampires or concentrate fire on a single massive boss. This is not a subtle approach. Jeff does not do subtle.
The core philosophy: Jeff's Joyful Splash stream heals allies and damages enemies on the same trigger at the same time. Overflowing Waters traits push the damage output of this stream high enough that Jeff stops being "the healer who sometimes does damage" and becomes "the damage dealer who is also incidentally preventing the entire team from dying." These are very different psychological positions to occupy in a Blood Hunt run.
Trait points come from leveling up through match play. Spend them in this order:
Forked Stream Blood Hunt is Jeff's unlockable ability that splits his water stream into three simultaneous streams. This is not a minor upgrade. Forked Stream is why Jeff is a top-three Blood Hunt pick rather than a mid-tier support who is mostly harmless. One stream against a boss is solid. Three streams against a boss, all of them hitting, is the reason people on the leaderboard are posting Nightmare clears where the boss died in approximately one second of engagement.
Forked Stream unlocks through progression: level up Jeff in Blood Hunt and invest in the Overflowing Waters trait tree. The ability does not arrive at the beginning of your first run. This is why Jeff takes longer to build up than other heroes. This is also why his payoff, when it arrives, is disproportionate.
Against boss encounters, activate Forked Stream and position all three streams on the target simultaneously. Use Aqua Burst between stream cycles for additional pressure. Jeff at full Forked Stream build against the hidden Kingpin boss does not give Kingpin an opportunity to demonstrate his mechanics. That is a compliment.
Continuous water stream. Heals allies, damages enemies, pierces through both. In Blood Hunt's PvE tuning, this is Jeff's core engine. Position the stream so it passes through a teammate and hits the enemy cluster behind them. This is the entire build rationale summarized in one sentence. Point it correctly and things improve. Point it incorrectly and your team is sad.
Water sphere that bursts on contact in a 3-meter radius. Deals 25 direct damage plus 40 AoE. Cannot critically hit, which is why Accessory Critical Rate stacking is less efficient for Jeff than it is for pure DPS heroes. Use Aqua Burst during stream reload windows to maintain pressure. Against grouped vampire hordes between boss stages, the AoE burst is your most efficient wave-clear tool.
Jeff dives underground, exposing only his fin, healing himself at 35 HP per second while submerged. In Blood Hunt, this ability has two purposes: survival and repositioning. When vampire melee gets inside your personal space, dive. When you need a different angle to hit multiple enemies through your teammates, dive. Do not use it to hide permanently. You are not playing hide and seek. You are playing a vampire apocalypse.
Arc-projectile sphere that provides healing-over-time and a 15% healing amplification buff to all allies it touches. In co-op Blood Hunt runs, this buff stacks with your stream healing, your Overflowing Waters trait bonuses, and any Accessory healing amplification bonuses. Throw it before engaging a boss wave. The amplification window is the difference between your teammates surviving the opening burst or not.
Jeff grows to enormous size and swallows everything nearby: allies and enemies alike. Swallowed allies heal rapidly; swallowed enemies take damage. In Blood Hunt, deploy this on dense vampire waves between boss stages, not on the bosses themselves where precise stream positioning matters more. Bosses are immune or highly resistant to the swallow. Vampire mobs are not. The stampede clears. Jeff grows. People cheer. It's fine.
Jeff the Land Shark tips Blood Hunt that apply from Normal through Nightmare 70:
The Nightmare 40 and 70 Milestones
Clear Nightmare 40+ on Jeff to unlock his personal emoji. Clear Nightmare 70+ on Jeff specifically to unlock his title. These are per-character milestones. You cannot use a different hero to earn Jeff's cosmetics. The game requires you to commit to Jeff. Respect the commitment.
Blood Hunt co-op Jeff performs best when paired with high-output DPS heroes who can stay in the fight because Jeff is keeping them alive. The natural partnerships:
|

Why It Works |
Jeff's Role |
|
Squirrel Girl |
Clean sustained DPS, high ricochet damage in corridors. Needs to stay alive through boss aggro. |
Stream through Squirrel Girl and into bosses. Heal her while damaging the target. Nobody has to choose. |
|
Blade |
Top-tier single target damage. Aggressively close-range. Constantly at risk of taking burst damage. |
Track Blade with Healing Bubble pre-fight, stream heals during engagement windows. Blade stays alive. Boss doesn't. |
|
Thor |
High durability frontliner who draws aggro and soaks boss attacks while dealing respectable damage. |
Stream from behind Thor's position. Thor absorbs, Jeff heals Thor, both deal damage to enemies behind Thor. Classic geometry. |
Yes, top three. Once Forked Stream unlocks, Jeff's sustained output against bosses and waves becomes genuinely elite.
Overflowing Waters trait focus, Exclusive gear first, Weapon second. Unlock Forked Stream before pushing Hard difficulty.
Survivable but suboptimal. Jeff's kit returns maximum value in co-op, where healing and DPS apply simultaneously to both roles.
Forked Stream unlocks through leveling Jeff and investing in the Overflowing Waters trait tree. It does not arrive immediately on first run.
Blood Hunt runs through July 30, 2026 only. NetEase has not confirmed any extension. Treat that date as final.
