Black Ops 7 Season 3 Overview & Release Date

You survived Season 2. You outlasted the mid-season update, fought through Paradox Junction with its post-nuke Nuketown aesthetic, and somehow didn't uninstall when solos still weren't in Black Ops Royale. Your reward? Season 3: dropping April 2, 2025, at 9:00 AM PT. No, it's not an April Fools joke, though the content roadmap might make you wonder.

Roadmap Reveal

March 26

Launch Date

April 2

Launch Time PT

09:00 AM

Reloaded ETA

May 7–14

How do we know this? The Battle Pass countdown timer. Not an official announcement. Not a press release. A timer. Treyarch could, in theory, have told people, but why communicate when you can make fans reverse-engineer a date from a progress bar? Truly the peak of community engagement.

The roadmap and blog post are expected around March 26: one week before launch, following the tradition of Activision drip-feeding just enough information to generate hype without accidentally promising something they have to deliver. Ranked play goes offline between March 31 and the Season 3 launch, which is Treyarch's way of saying "we need a breather too."

Reloaded: the mid-season update that will contain the actual zombies map everyone cares about: is currently targeting either May 7 or May 14. That's five or six weeks into the season. You are expected to find this acceptable.

Maps: Nostalgia as a Business Model

Season 3's multiplayer map content is a masterclass in what Activision calls "heritage" and what the rest of us call "recycling." Here are the maps confirmed or strongly expected to arrive, each hand-selected from your childhood to monetize your feelings:

  • Plaza (Black Ops 2): The rooftop map from 2012 is finally back, having never been reimagined before. It was confirmed twice: once in the COD POD podcast and once by the simple fact that Treyarch keeps mentioning it. It's getting the full modern technology treatment. Whether you've played it before or not doesn't matter; either way, you'll die on it constantly.
  • Gridlock (Black Ops 4): Spotted in a blog image for BO7 multiplayer and visible out of bounds on the Express map, this one's basically been announced by accident. Activision's most common form of reveal.
  • Vertigo (Black Ops 2): Spotted out of bounds on Express as well. That iconic tower visible in the distance means someone on the dev team forgot to close a door. Now it's "confirmed."
  • Original 6v6 and Face-Off Maps: Yes, brand new, never-before-seen maps will also arrive. These will receive approximately 40% of the attention given to the remasters.
  • Skyline (BO6): Rumored carry-forward from Black Ops 6. Because if nostalgia for 2024 is your thing, this franchise will serve it to you.

Expect two to three weapons in the Season 3 Battle Pass at launch, followed by another two to three spread across in-season events. Attachment kits and conversion blueprints will also show up, transforming weapons you already own into weapons you'll pretend are different.

Events: The Format Is Changing (Again)

Treyarch has confirmed the event structure is evolving from Season 3 onward. Leaderboard events are being scaled back: they'll now apply almost exclusively to ranked modes rather than every playlist simultaneously. In their place, expect:

  • Objective Events: These are the genuinely useful ones. Do challenges while grinding dailies, weeklies, and camo challenges simultaneously. Modern Warfare 3 did this well. BO7 will probably do it fine too.
  • Collection Events: The kind where you earn items that you'll look at once and never equip.
  • XP Events: Because nothing says "we appreciate your time" like making it go faster.

The ranked play series leaderboard events: the final ones in their current format: run March 26–31. You'll be placed in a bracket of 50 players in your division. Hit top 5 or top 25 to earn a camel. After March 31, ranked goes dark until April 2. Build anticipation accordingly.

Also: 4/20 is approaching. Call of Duty takes this more seriously than Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, or Easter combined. Expect a re-skinned map, themed bundles, and some form of in-game event that will be discussed in hushed, reverent tones in the community. A crossover is possible. Do not ask what with.

Zombies DLC 3: Cold, Vague, and Somehow Still Exciting

After three maps: Ashes of the Damned at launch, Astra Malorum in Season 1, and Paradox Junction in Season 2: the zombies community has been told to wait again. Treyarch confirmed that starting with Paradox Junction, all future round-based maps drop at Reloaded, not season launch. You will wait six weeks into Season 3. You will be fine.

What do we actually know about DLC 3? A cutting-edge total of:

  • It will be cold. The ending cutscene of Paradox Junction implies a cold location for the next map. That's the information. A temperature.
  • The House from Revelations may appear. Visible in the X-fill screen of BO7 Zombies, the House is theorized to serve as a narrative hub between maps. Whether you'll actually visit it in gameplay or just stare at it through a loading screen remains unclear.
  • New enemies, a new location, a new Wonder Weapon. Confirmed in a Creator Call that seasons 3, 4, and 5 will each feature this. The Wonder Weapon will be discovered, appreciated for three days, then declared trash by the community.
  • Hellhounds (possibly). Badges for regular hellhounds were found in game files but were absent from Paradox Junction, which used plague hounds instead. They may be saved for DLC 3, or they may be saved for DLC 4, or they may have been cut entirely. Nobody knows. Welcome to data mining.
  • Widow's Wine. Leaked for so long it's practically a patch note. Expected to finally arrive.

Launch Day Zombies Content

Since the round-based map doesn't arrive until Reloaded, Season 3 launch day for Zombies will likely include:

  • A Limited Time Mode (LTM): possibly Grief, the competitive zombies format from Black Ops 2. A "battle mode" with PvP elements was also rumored by data miners, though details are vague enough to be anything from a new playlist to a new emoji reaction.
  • Shopping Free (possibly): A screenshot of the GobbleGum pack menu appeared to show Shopping Free returning. Gift Card, which replaced it, is arguably better for BO7's mechanics, but nobody asked the mechanics.
  • New GobbleGums: Because you can never have enough consumables you'll panic-use on round 4.

Treyarch is currently collecting community questions for a dev talk. Submit yours before it's too late and they answer four questions about weapon balance instead.

Endgame & Black Ops Royale: Progress, Theoretically

Endgame: BO7's Warzone-adjacent live PvE experience set in the city of Avalon: continues to evolve. Each major content drop has added something structurally different: world events, guild strike bosses, the exotic fabricator for upgrading weapons, and now Glitch Fracture levels that remove you from Avalon entirely into what can only be described as a different, angrier dimension. Season 3 is expected to continue this trend, though exactly how remains unconfirmed pending the roadmap reveal on March 26.

Community feedback has been submitted to the studio requesting an out-of-game stash system: a way to hold four to five exotic weapons across sessions rather than losing them the moment you decide to try something different. Currently, you can upgrade any weapon to exotic, but upgrading a second one means sacrificing the first. This is either intentional friction or spectacular oversight. Likely both.

The Avalon map itself is confirmed to receive visual and structural changes at Season 3 launch: different from both its current state and its in-game Endgame version. New POIs may be added, following the precedent set by the original Blackout. Whether any of these POIs will matter is a question for Week 3 content creators.

Black Ops Royale

Black Ops Royale: the new battle royale mode that dropped alongside Season 2 Reloaded, inspired by the original Blackout: is still finding its footing. Here is what is confirmed or expected for Season 3:

  • Solos mode: Raven has confirmed solos are coming, initially as private matches only to gather data. The expectation is public solos no later than Season 3 launch. Making a battle royale without a solo queue in 2025 is a choice that speaks volumes.
  • Cosmetic respect: The studio confirmed something is coming to let players apply camos and blueprint looks to looted weapons. Attachment looting is not coming. You will have pretty guns you didn't choose to bring.
  • Fortune Keep rotating with Rebirth and Havens Hollow: Confirmed months ago. Expect it to appear in ranked rotation as well.
  • Guild shipping containers on Verdansk: Spotted pre-season, potentially indicating a new POI or Easter egg tied to the season's narrative. Investigation pending actual Season 3 launch.
  • M27 / ICR: Cryptically teased by data miner Crash. If accurate, one of the cleanest iron-sighted rifles from Black Ops 2 and 3 returns. If inaccurate, it joins the long list of "almost confirmed" weapons that never arrived.
