The WoW Midsummer Fire Festival is an annual two-week event celebrating summer by making you run to every corner of Azeroth to click bonfires. It has existed since Patch 1.11. It has not changed philosophically in twenty years. You honor flames, you desecrate the enemy's flames, you kill a frost lord wearing a swimsuit in an ice dungeon, and you spend a currency you cannot save between years.
In 2026 they added aerial quests, a new mount, a weapon illusion, and five new bonfires in the Midnight zones. The rest is identical to what it has always been. Manage your expectations accordingly.
Burning Blossoms are the event's currency. They are Warbound, meaning your alts can use them. They are not saved between years, meaning you cannot hoard. On day one, you can collect roughly 900 by hitting all bonfires once. Every day after that, expect around 30 from dailies and Ahune.
The Burning Blossoms farming ceiling is front-loaded. Hit every bonfire on day one. Do the aerial quests once for 50 Blossoms each. Kill Ahune daily for ~10 more. The rest is grinding dailies for pocket change.

Queue for Ahune via the Group Finder (I). You need to be level 10. He lives in the Slave Pens. He is a frost lord at a fire festival because irony is Blizzard's design philosophy.
Your first kill each day produces a Satchel of Chilled Goods. This is where the real prizes hide. The satchel has a chance to contain the new Sun Festival's Painted Roc mount, the Cliffside Wylderdrake armor, an Ice Chip (teaches Frigid Frostling), and the weapon illusion. Subsequent kills give you some Blossoms and the quiet dignity of having tried.
Drop chance increases daily with each failed attempt. Kill him every single day. The mount will not come to you if you do not show up.

This year Blizzard added WoW aerial quests Midsummer across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Unlike Dragonriding races, these are not timed gauntlets. A Sunwalker narrates Horde lore. A Wildhammer narrates Alliance lore. You fly. You collect blossoms. You listen to in-flight entertainment.
These are the most efficient new source of Blossoms. Do them every day.
The Midsummer bonfire locations span every continent released since 2004. You honor your own faction's bonfires and desecrate the enemy's. Both reward Blossoms and count toward achievements. The Candy Buckets addon adds map waypoints so you do not spend three hours flying in the wrong direction.
New in 2026: Five Midnight zone bonfires have been added in Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar, Voidstorm, and Silvermoon City. Completing these unlocks the new Flame Keeper of Midnight (Horde) or Flame Warden of Midnight (Alliance) achievements.

Cosmetic (Shards of Ahune quest) |
You need 410 Blossoms minimum to buy all achievement-required items. Pets cost 350 each. Plan accordingly. Two years to collect everything if you want every cosmetic.
The Flame Keeper achievement WoW (Horde) or Flame Warden (Alliance) is the meta. It feeds into What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been, which rewards a Violet Proto-Drake. If you care about that mount, this event is not optional.
Ribbon Dance gives a 10% XP buff Midsummer for up to 60 minutes. If you have alts to level, use it. It is free. It is at every bonfire. There is no reason not to.
If you want the Frost Lord Ahune loot: especially the Roc mount: you must kill him daily for as many of the fourteen days as possible. Bad luck protection increases the drop chance each failed day.

July 5, 2026. Miss it and you wait a year. The blossoms do not roll over.
No. They are holiday-specific and expire. Spend everything before July 5 or lose it.
Kill Frost Lord Ahune once daily. It drops from the Satchel. Bring patience: possibly two weeks' worth.
Only once for meta-achievements and the title. Two years total if you want every purchasable cosmetic.
Day one: hit all bonfires and complete aerial quests. That single session yields the most you'll ever earn.
