Still running back to your corpse every 10 minutes? Our Windrose inventory guide shows exactly how to craft both backpacks and stop suffering immediat
Managing your inventory early on can be quite a balancing act! When you first set out in Windrose, you are given 16 slots to hold your gear. Between gathering copper, plant fibers, hunting, and collecting base-building materials during the tutorial, those slots can fill up rather quickly, leaving you with a wonderful collection of items but nowhere to put them.
Be sure to use the promo code CRINGEBLOG! Rest assured, just like this guide, it won't let you down and is sure to live up to all your expectations. ^_^
This inventory limit is a thoughtful design element meant to gently encourage you to look into crafting storage solutions right from the beginning of your adventure. Because Windrose features a mechanic where your carried items stay with your previous location if you happen to fall in battle, keeping a tidy and well-managed inventory is the absolute best way to save yourself a long walk back.
Fortunately, the perfect solution is available right on your very first island! You can easily expand your carrying capacity using two different types of backpacks.

Windrose does not upgrade crafting stations through menus. It uses a physical add-on system: build a specific structure, place it within your Bonfire's radius, and the station it corresponds to silently upgrades itself. For the Workbench, that structure is the Sawhorse.
The Sawhorse does not need to be placed directly next to the Workbench. It just needs to be anywhere inside the same Bonfire's zone. The Windrose Bonfire zone upgrade mechanic is not explained clearly in-game. The radius is large. Use it.

Craft the Torn Sailcloth Bag at Workbench Level 1, then upgrade to the Sailor Backpack at Level 2. Equip both via the Accessories slot.
Eight extra slots total, bringing your inventory to roughly 24. It consumes the Torn Sailcloth Bag as an ingredient: they do not stack.
Build a Sawhorse using 20 Wood and 10 Copper Ingots. Place it anywhere inside your Bonfire zone. Upgrade is automatic and instant.
Extra inventory slots disappear immediately. Items in those slots are not lost but become inaccessible until you re-equip. Do not do this mid-haul.
