Warframe Incarnon Week 9: Vectis, Stug, Obex Guide
Update 43 changed companion XP, freed loot buffs from Smeeta's grip, and let Parasitic Link finally target your Kavat. The hierarchy shifted…
Three changes directly affect companions. Two are quality-of-life. One reshuffles the loot meta permanently.
Loyal Retriever gives a passive 13% chance to double each resource or credit pickup. Always active. No cooldown. No waiting. Equippable on all beast companions. Smeeta owners received it automatically on login. New players purchase it with Earth Conservation tags.
Ranked on Steel Path utility, survivability, and build-enabling potential. The best Warframe companions for endgame content have not dramatically changed. What changed is your freedom to reach them without Smeeta tax.

Tier |
Companion |
Class |
Why |
|
SS |
Panzer Vulpaphyla |
Vulpaphyla |
Spreads Viral status passively. Respawns as a turret in 30 seconds. Refuses death more consistently than your actual gameplay decisions. |
|
SS |
Nautilus (Prime) |
Sentinel |
Cordon clusters enemies. Verglas Prime deletes them. Momentous Bond + Manifold Bond loop is infinite. Steel Path's best sentinel by a margin that is embarrassing for the other nine. |
|
S |
Hec Hound |
Hound |
Arc Coil + Manifold Bond spreads status in a radius that covers entire rooms. Hinta Stabilizer tail slot is mandatory. 300 base weapon damage post-rework. Still the best modular companion. |
|
S |
Adarza Kavat |
Kavat |
Cat's Eye adds flat 60% crit chance. Stacks additively. Pairs with Kuva Nukor, Laetum, Catchmoon. Now also slots Loyal Retriever without giving up combat precepts: loot AND crits. |
|
S |
Smeeta Kavat |
Kavat |
Charm now activates at 40% chance and no longer carries the loot buff: that moved to Loyal Retriever. Mischief invisibility plus remaining buffs keep it S-tier. Just no longer mandatory. CHANGED U43 |
|
A |
Sly Vulpaphyla |
Vulpaphyla |
Shield-gate-adjacent for shieldless frames. Viral spores without Panzer's Viral Quills. Slots Loyal Retriever. More versatile than it appears on paper. |
|
A |
Huras Kubrow |
Kubrow |
Permanent invisibility for caster frames. Hunt + Stalk precepts, 350 damage claws post-rework. Now viable with Nidus via Parasitic Link. Nidus players: run this. BUFFED U43 |
|
A |
Diriga |
Sentinel |
Arc Coil + Manifold Bond spreads electricity in huge radius. The sentinel version of the Hound status loop, cheaper to acquire. |
|
A |
Sunika Kubrow |
Kubrow |
550 base damage: highest melee damage in the Kubrow class post-rework. Unleashed targets all Eximus units and deals 300% damage against Overguard. Worth building for Eximus-heavy Steel Path. REWORKED |
|
B |
Carrier (Prime) |
Sentinel |
Ammo conversion. Looter. Reliable. Boring. Exactly what it has been since 2013. Eternal B-tier occupant. |
|
B |
Djinn |
Sentinel |
Reawaken makes it semi-immortal. Fatal Attraction taunts enemies. Reaper Prime pairs well. Not exciting but actually functional in long endurance. |
|
B |
Chesa Kubrow |
Kubrow |
Retrieve acts as mini-Desecrate. Now slots Loyal Retriever on top. 275 base damage, 15% status chance. Best loot-on-demand beast that is not a Kavat. |
|
B |
Dethcube (Prime) |
Sentinel |
Energy Generator still works. Energy-hungry builds tolerate it. Everyone else has better options at identical mod cost. |
|
C |
Shade (Prime) |
Sentinel |
Ghost invisibility breaks on weapon fire. Ambush damage boost is real. The condition is the problem. Always has been. |
|
C |
Raksa Kubrow |
Kubrow |
250 base damage, 20% status. Shield recharge for Hildryn. Outside that one specific application, decorative. Loyal Retriever makes it marginally less useless for farming runs. |
|
C |
MOA (Generic) |
MOA |
Modular. Outclassed by Hounds at every job. Build for Mastery. Retire immediately. |
|
C |
Oxylus |
Sentinel |
Marks fishing spots. You are not here to fish on Steel Path. Niche remains intact, relevance does not. |
|
D |
Taxon |
Sentinel |
You found it on Venus. Leave it on Venus. |
|
D |
Wyrm (Prime) |
Sentinel |
Crowd Dispersion scatters enemies in every direction. This is anti-synergy with every AoE weapon in the game. Congratulations. |
|
D |
Predasites (all) |
Predasite |
Strong survivability. Limited utility. Medjay is the best of a mediocre set. None of them earn a companion slot over the top three tiers. |

Viral Quills applies Viral status to enemies in a radius passively while fighting. Dies and respawns in 30 seconds as a larval turret. Slots Loyal Retriever for loot on top of already being the best combat pet. Stack Hunter Recovery for lifesteal.
Cordon pulls every enemy into a pile. Verglas Prime then commits violence against that pile. Momentous Bond resets Cordon on kill. The loop is self-sustaining. The best Warframe sentinel build target by a significant margin.
Cat's Eye procs a flat additive crit bonus on you and nearby allies. Post-U43 it can slot Loyal Retriever without sacrificing combat precepts. The best Kavat for crit builds and now also acceptable for farming. Versatility finally earned.
Charm triggers at 40% chance and cycles between affinity boosts, damage buffs, energy restore, and invulnerability pulses. The resource doubling is gone from Charm specifically: moved to Loyal Retriever. Still S-tier. No longer mandatory.
Best modular companion. Hinta Stabilizer tail enables Arc Coil + Manifold Bond loop. 300 base weapon damage. Status spreading covers the room. Build this before any Sentinel if you want combat contribution.
550 base damage claws: highest in the Kubrow class. Unleashed now correctly targets all Eximus units and deals 300% bonus damage to Overguard. If you run Steel Path content with heavy Eximus spawns, this is now your best Kubrow option.
KubrowEximusReworked
Phase 2 of the companion rework gave every beast its own moddable weapon slot and individualized stat lines. Umbra Mods do not work on beast weapons. These stats are the current baseline after all rework patches through Update 43.

The single most significant companion change in the Update 37–43 cycle was not a weapon buff or a Bond Mod. It was the decoupling of loot from the Smeeta Kavat. For years, the Smeeta Kavat farming build was mandatory. You used Smeeta or you accepted inferior resource gain. DE acknowledged this explicitly: players were holding items on the ground, deliberately not picking them up, waiting for the Charm buff to activate. That is not gameplay. That is AFK farming with extra steps.
Loyal Retriever: 13% passive chance to double every resource or credit pickup. No cooldown. No duration. Always active. Equippable on any beast. Smeeta owners received it free. Everyone else: Earth Conservation tags from Cetus.
The result: you can now run Panzer Vulpaphyla, Adarza Kavat, or even a melee-focused Kubrow and still get a meaningful loot multiplier on every mission. Loyal Retriever vs Smeeta Charm is not a direct comparison: the old doubled-resource buff from Charm was higher than 13% when it triggered: but the consistency and freedom are unambiguously better. Variant mods also exist: Prosperous Retriever (18% credit only, Venus Conservation) and Resourceful Retriever (18% resource only, Deimos Conservation).
Nothing in Update 43 changes the Bond Mod system. It remains the backbone of every competitive companion build. The best companion mods in Warframe post-U43 are the same as they were in U37.
Parasitic Link previously could not target beast companions. Update 43 fixed this. Specters and free-moving companions: Kavats, Kubrows, Vulpaphylas, Predasites: can now be linked. This matters specifically for Nidus builds that want to transfer Mutation Stack scaling to a companion. Huras Kubrow with Parasitic Link means your pet inherits damage scaling while keeping you invisible. The synergy is narrow but now exists and was not possible before U43.
Requires Heart of Deimos completion. Biosynthetic Incubator in the Necralisk. Imprints available on Warframe.market to skip breed RNG. Get it the moment Deimos unlocks: there is no argument for waiting on this one.
Base Nautilus from Clan Dojo (Tenno Lab research). Prime components from Void Relics. Drop rates are low. Check Warframe.market for unbuilt sets: faster and usually cheaper than farming the relics yourself.
Same incubation process as Smeeta: 50/50 split between the two breeds. Imprints available for direct purchase. Post-U43, if you were waiting to replace Smeeta now that Loyal Retriever exists, this is the upgrade. Cat's Eye plus loot mod is legitimately strong.
Vanquish a Sister of Parvos or build one at Legs in Fortuna. Hound Component Blueprints are tradeable. You need the Hinta Stabilizer in the tail slot: acquire that component specifically. The Sister's random Hound will probably not have it.
Auto-granted to all Smeeta owners as of the companion rework update. New acquisition: Earth Conservation vendor in Cetus, purchased with Conservation tags. Variants (Prosperous, Resourceful) from Venus and Deimos Conservation vendors respectively.

Panzer Vulpaphyla for all content. Nautilus Prime if you want the best Steel Path sentinel. Neither changed in U43.
Yes: Charm still procs at 40% with affinity, energy, and damage buffs. It just no longer holds loot hostage as the sole reason to exist.
Both you and your companion earn full XP if both dealt damage to a target before it died. Leveling companions is now substantially faster.
Huras for stealth/caster frames, Sunika for Eximus-heavy Steel Path content. Sunika's reworked Unleashed makes it genuinely useful now.
Yes. Same modular system, better precept pool, 300 base weapon damage post-rework. MOAs exist to fill your Mastery and nothing more.
