What Actually Happened

Apocalypse was mid-ritual, absorbing divine energy in Thebes to ascend into a god, when someone stabbed him. Rude, but efficient. Then Wolverine, Psylocke, and Gambit dropped dead in quick succession, because apparently nobody in this universe has a bodyguard. Your job is to investigate each death, gather clues, and fill in blanks like a coloring book for adults who peaked in true-crime podcasts.

The Death of Wolverine mystery opens the event, and the twist is about as subtle as a Sentinel through a window: Bucky did it. Under leftover Hydra conditioning, he triggered Wolverine's Berserker Rage, and his mechanical arm delivered the killing blow, with Hive Cells draining both blood and healing factor. Jubilee gets accused first because vampires get profiled too.

Solving this case rewards the "The Body in the Lazarus Chamber (The Mystery of Thebes #3)" Gallery Card. Frame it next to your other trophies for crimes you didn't commit yourself.

How the Deduction Page Actually Works

You are not required to think, only to click. Here's the exhausting process the game insists on calling gameplay, useful when the later cases drop and you want fresh deduction page answers instead of guessing like an amateur.

1. Read the case briefing. It's flavor text, but skipping it means the clues make no sense.
2. Click every glowing sparkle at the crime scene. These are your Marvel Rivals clues, and yes, they look identical to background decoration on purpose.
3. Examine each clue's content to unlock associated clue words.
4. Open the Deduction tab once all clues are collected.
5. Fill every blank using the clue words, then name the suspect. Get it wrong and enjoy re-reading everything.

The Death of Psylocke case unlocks a couple of days after launch, followed shortly by the Death of Gambit case. Each investigation opens in sequence, presumably so NetEase can stagger server load instead of narrative tension.

Why Any of This Exists

The whole affair is wrapped inside Marvel Rivals Season 9's bigger Egypt arc, tied to the Faith-Harvesting Engine Battle Pass, which is the actual point: get you invested in lore so you buy the pass. Apocalypse was harvesting godly faith to ascend, someone objected with a blade, and now everyone's dying around a corpse instead of just looting it.

Season 9 Context, for the Terminally Uninformed

Season 9 also introduced Jubilee Marvel Rivals players have been requesting, a new Strategist with mutant firecracker energy, a reworked Black Widow, and a full Team-Up ability overhaul. None of that solves your murders faster, but at least you'll die stylishly in ranked while ignoring the mystery entirely.
