Jubilee Marvel Rivals debut casts her as a Strategist, not the Duelist everyone assumed because her powers explode. Her fireworks-based kit does the unthinkable: heal and damage simultaneously, an auto-fire primary that turns her allies into science projects and her enemies into confetti. She also gets a hover dodge, a healing bubble, a life-steal ability, and an AoE ultimate that knocks people around while patching up your team. Underneath the sparkle, she's doing this because her son Shogo is stuck as a dragon, which is either tragic or the most mid-2020s superhero motivation imaginable.

The Hood Marvel Rivals arrival is pushed to Season 9.5, because apparently even stolen demonic cloaks need a certification process. Leaks point to dual pistols with an overheat mechanic instead of ammo, a shield befitting a Vanguard, clone-summoning, and a demon-form ultimate. Lore-wise, he's not one of Apocalypse's horsemen; he's the guy who allegedly puts a sword through Apocalypse's back to kick off the season's murder mystery. Motive: unclear. Commitment to the bit: total.

The Marvel Rivals Apocalypse storyline finally pays off its slow-burn Egyptian teasing. The Eniad, Egypt's own pantheon, have been quietly slaughtered, and Apocalypse decides the logical response is to ascend to godhood himself, because subtlety was never his thing. Then he gets stabbed in the back mid-monologue, and the rest of the roster is left playing detective across a fresh whodunit minigame called Death of Apocalypse. Suspects, clues, betrayal, the works. It's basically Knives Out with capes and none of the wit.
If you were hoping for a peaceful season of just shooting people, apparently the writers had other plans. Everyone's a suspect. Everyone's also still shooting people.
Thebes map Marvel Rivals lands a couple weeks after launch, on July 23–24, as a new Convoy map soaked in ancient Egypt aesthetics and murder-mystery ambiance. It doesn't launch day one, so manage your expectations accordingly; the devs apparently need extra time to make the corpses look presentable.
The Marvel Rivals battle pass Season 9 track is Egyptian-themed top to bottom, nicknamed "Deaths on the Nile" for anyone who appreciates a pun while their wallet suffers. Skins land for Namor, Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Ultron, Mantis, Moon Knight, Elsa Bloodstone, Venom, Cloak and Dagger, Rocket Raccoon, and Deadpool. Two skins are free-track: Namor's Lord of Atlantis and Ultron's Ultron-15. Everything else costs money, obviously.
The Black Widow rework is not a tune-up, it's a full personality transplant. Her primary fire loses the mandatory scope for faster shooting, her charged Electro-Plasma blast now fires outside her ultimate, and the ultimate itself becomes a temporary ADS sniper mode with a bullet or time limit. Translation: she stops being a "why is this in my match" pick and starts being an actual Duelist threat. Only took the devs this long to admit the old kit was decorative.
The Marvel Rivals Team-Up overhaul rips out the stale, box-checking system and replaces it with two independent Team-Up loadouts per hero, each carrying a Base Effect for any valid partner and an Enhanced Effect if the specific partner is on your team. Classic combos like Ammo Overload and Metallic Chaos return, alongside new ones. Eighteen characters got nerfed to compensate, because balance apparently means punishing the many for the sins of a few overtuned combos.

System Change |
What It Means |
|
Two Team-Up loadouts per hero |
Pick one in spawn room, no anchor buff required |
|
Base vs Enhanced Effects |
Works alone, gets stronger with the right partner in-team |
|
Regenerative Shields |
Diving heroes auto-heal after 5 seconds untouched |
|
18 heroes nerfed |
Balance correction following the new Team-Up power spikes |
The Marvel Rivals Age of Ultron event, part of the ongoing Path to Doomsday saga, finally drops on July 30–31 after getting delayed for "improvements," which is corporate for "the first Avengers mode embarrassed us." Expect a PvE romp through Avengers Tower and Ultron's Data Space, themed Times Square content, and a pile of MCU-branded skins timed to Spider-Man: Brand New Day's theatrical release. If it flops too, at least the marketing calendar synced up nicely.
Yes, obviously, you're still reading. Season 9 is genuinely the densest update the game has shipped: two new heroes, a full Team-Up rebuild, a Black Widow that finally does something, a murder mystery, and an MCU tie-in that's had extra time in the oven. Whether the writing justifies the Egyptian body count is a separate question, and not one the patch notes are going to answer for you.
