Marathon The UAV Recon Build: Because Apparently Just Existing in the Match Wasn't Enough
The Data Reconstruction quest is live and it's the kind of multi-step, multi-map grind that was specifically designed to make you question your life c
Data Reconstruction is a multi-step contract in Marathon's New Caloric faction progression path. It spans three separate parts: two of which take place on Perimeter, with Part 2 dragging you over to Dire Marsh. The Data Reconstruction quest is sequential, meaning you can't skip ahead no matter how much you'd like to.

⚠️ This is NOT a single-objective sprint. Part 1 of the Data Reconstruction quest requires visiting three separate locations across Perimeter in order. Yes, in order. The game will make this very clear by locking objectives until you do things correctly, like a passive-aggressive game mechanic.
South Relay sits in the southeastern portion of Perimeter. You're looking for two Sparkle Leaf Bio Printers: because apparently the future still runs on plants.
Once both Sparkle Leaf Bio Printers are scanned, the Overflow objective will unlock. Check your active contract menu if you're skeptical: the lock icon will disappear.
Head to Overflow, located in the southwest corner of the map. You need two Fungal Bio Printers for the Data Reconstruction quest to advance.
After scanning both Fungal Bio Printers, open your contract tracker. The lock on the final objective should be gone. If it's not, you missed one.
North Relay is in the northwest section of Perimeter. Your target is the Agricultural Report terminal: but you can't just walk up and grab it, because the power is off. Classic.
Confirm the download completed in your contract tracker BEFORE heading to Xfil. Extracting with an incomplete Data Reconstruction quest is a very fixable mistake that you will absolutely feel bad about.
ℹ️ Turn-in: Return to the Faction screen, navigate to New Caloric, and turn in the contract to unlock Part 2 of Data Reconstruction.
Part 2 of the Data Reconstruction quest moves entirely to Dire Marsh. Here's the actually good news: you don't need to extract successfully for progress to count. Objectives register on completion, not on survival. This is the most forgiving part of the Data Reconstruction quest line, which is saying something.
Algae Ponds is located roughly in the middle of Dire Marsh, slightly left of the anomaly. Head to the top floor of the main building.
ℹ️ Can't find the terminal? Move through the building slowly: a small green quest marker will appear when you're close. It's proximity-based, so you genuinely have to be nearby before it shows. Welcome to Marathon.
Head southeast from Algae Ponds to AI Uplink. You'll recognize it by the bridge structure held up by large columns.
Once all three Data Repositories are hacked, Part 2 of the Data Reconstruction quest is complete. Again: you do not need to Xfil. Just finish the objectives and your progress will register automatically.
ℹ️ Turn-in: Faction screen → New Caloric → turn in the contract to unlock Part 3.
⚠️ CRITICAL: Part 3 of the Data Reconstruction quest must be completed in a SINGLE RUN and you must successfully Xfil at the end. If you die before extracting, you restart the entire sequence. Bring good gear. This is not the time to test your budget loadout.
You need a total of two Data Repository hacks to advance Part 3 of the Data Reconstruction quest. You can do both at one location or split between the two: your choice.
North Relay (Northwest Perimeter):
South Relay (Southeast Perimeter):
Once two repositories are hacked, your next Data Reconstruction objective will unlock. Head to Holler.
⚠️ Holler is one of the best loot spots on Perimeter. Expect other players. If your main goal is finishing the Data Reconstruction quest, get in, get the download, and get out. Do not let shiny loot convince you to stay.
USEC reinforcements tend to drop into Holler regularly. Once you have the AI Maintenance Protocol downloaded, do not linger. Leave immediately and make your way to Xfil.
This is it. The final step of the entire Data Reconstruction quest line. Do not die. Extract successfully and the contract will mark as complete.
ℹ️ Turn-in: Faction screen → New Caloric → turn in the contract. You've just completed all three parts of the Data Reconstruction quest. Take a moment to feel good about yourself.

No. Each part of the Data Reconstruction quest is a separate contract. Parts 1 and 2 can be completed across multiple runs. Part 3, however, must be done in a single run with a successful Xfil: so come prepared for that one specifically.
Parts 1 and 3 of the Data Reconstruction quest take place on Perimeter. Part 2 happens entirely on Dire Marsh. Make sure you switch maps before starting Part 2, or you'll spend a confusing amount of time looking for Algae Ponds on a map that doesn't have one.
For Part 1 and Part 3, yes: a successful extraction is required for the contract to complete. For Part 2 (Dire Marsh), you do NOT need to Xfil. Objectives register on completion, not survival. Part 2 is generously forgiving. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Enter the northmost building in North Relay from the western doorway. The power switch is downstairs. Flip it, then head back upstairs to the south side of the building to interact with the red terminal. The game requires you to know the power was off. Now you do.
Data Repositories are interactable screens found on columns and structures throughout Perimeter and Dire Marsh. In Part 2 they appear on bridge columns at AI Uplink. In Part 3 they appear on clustered columns at North and South Relay. Interact with them to hack them. There is no minigame. Just press interact and feel like a hacker anyway.
The Data Reconstruction quest is part of the New Caloric faction progression path in Marathon. Make sure you're returning to the New Caloric faction screen to turn in the contract after each part, or your progress just floats in the void and nothing good happens.
Solid weapons, plenty of heals, and enough ammo for at least a few fights. Part 3 requires visiting multiple high-traffic areas: North/South Relay and Holler: in a single run. Holler in particular is a PvP magnet. Do not bring a loadout you would be embarrassed to die in.
