The first part of the Welcome to Tau Ceti quest in Marathon has exactly two objectives. Two. You only need to do two things. Try not to overthink it.
Yes, three. Not thirty, not three hundred – three. These are standard AI enemies scattered all over Perimeter. Any type counts, so whether it’s a basic soldier or a commander, your kill log doesn’t care. When you spawn in, you’ll naturally land near one of these main areas:
Just walk toward whichever location is closest and enemies will practically line up for you. If you’re playing with a squad and your teammates are hoarding kills (rude), look for an Intercept Event or a High Value Target on the map. Those spawn extra UESC units so you can finally get your three. Oh, and a very important note: bugs do NOT count toward the UESC enemy kills. Marathon quest guide rule #1 – kill the right things.
Once you’ve impressed everyone with your three kills, it’s time to find the FTL array tower. You’re looking for a dark blue structure shaped like the letter T. Try to contain your excitement. You’ll find these on rooftops across Perimeter – the Overflow area is confirmed to have one on top of a building. Walk up to the terminal and interact with it to complete the scan. Pro tip from this Marathon quest guide: avoid Hauler Station because you literally cannot access the roof there. Check rooftops everywhere else first.
Progress Saves Between Runs: If you die after killing two UESC enemies, those two kills are saved. The game actually shows mercy. Once both objectives are complete, head to your faction screen, hit Complete Contract, grab Part Two, and load back in.
Part Two of the Welcome to Tau Ceti contract is even simpler, which is genuinely impressive. Load back into Perimeter and head to North Relay or South Relay. You’re looking for the comms antenna this time – different from the FTL array. The comms antenna has an aqua terminal with a big yellow antenna behind it. Hard to miss, unless you are somehow managing to miss it.
Walk up to the aqua terminal. Interact with it. That’s it. That’s the whole step. No extraction required. You don’t need to Xfil safely after completing this objective – just interact with the terminal, then head back to your faction screen and turn in the contract. The Welcome to Tau Ceti quest in Marathon is officially complete.
Turn in at faction screen. Done. Go touch grass.

A minimum of two runs. Part One and Part Two are separate, and you’ll need to return to the faction screen between them to grab the second contract. The game’s saving your progress between runs, so no, you don’t have to redo everything every time you die.
No. Bugs do not count. Only UESC targets. Don’t ask us why you’d think they counted – but clearly enough people asked that it needed to be in this Marathon quest guide.
Look on rooftops around the map. Overflow has a confirmed one on top of a building. It’s a dark blue T-shaped structure with an interactive terminal. Avoid Hauler Station since you can’t access the roof there. There are multiple FTL arrays on the map, so just check rooftops as you go.
It has an aqua (teal-colored) terminal with a large yellow antenna structure behind it. You’ll find it at North Relay or South Relay. It looks nothing like the FTL array, so if you’re confusing the two, maybe slow down.
Nope. Once you interact with the comms antenna terminal, the objective is complete. No safe extraction needed. You can turn in the Welcome to Tau Ceti contract immediately at your faction screen.
We share your pain. Look for an Intercept Event or a High Value Target on the map – those locations spawn extra enemies. With only three kills required for this Marathon quest, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding your three even in a full squad.
Unfortunately, no. You must complete Part One, return to the faction screen to turn it in and grab Part Two, and then load back in for Part Two. Marathon is forcing you to do two runs minimum. It’s two runs. Accept it.
