Y8S1.3 is live. Prototype gear augments got buffed hard, Escalation Tokens no longer reset, and the Whiplash exotic pistol is yours

Y8S1.3 is the last update before Year 8 Season 2 drags you into the Dark Zone whether you like it or not. Before the devs flip the table, they handed out meaningful changes: Prototype gear augments got a significant buff, a new exotic pistol is waiting behind Master difficulty, and: in a rare act of competence: Escalation Tokens will no longer be wiped at season end. Spend them, hoard them, your call.
This is the final update of Rise Up (Y8S1). Season 2 “Into The Dark” brings a full PvP overhaul and a reworked Dark Zone. Enjoy the PvE playground while it lasts.
The Whiplash exotic pistol drops from the Rise Up Climax Mission, available May 26. First clear on Master difficulty is a guaranteed drop. Repeat runs have a chance based on difficulty. No other source. No exotic caches. No vendors.
Comes with 50% Swap Speed built in, which you need for this talent to function without testing your patience. The pistol is built around weapon-swap rotations: if your build ignores that, it's just a sidearm.
The single most important part of this patch. Prototype gear augments were functional but underwhelming at lower levels. That's been corrected. The increase-per-level value doubled from 0.2 to 0.4, and the level 10 cap values jumped hard across the board.

Echo is untouched because everyone already stacks it and the devs want you to consider other options. Quantum nearly doubled. Anomaly became absurd on skill builds. Synesthesia halving your cooldowns is no longer a joke stat.
Picking augments should take five minutes. It doesn't, because players insist on running full damage and then complaining they die instantly in Escalation mode Division 2. Here is the short version.

Minimum recommendation: 2x Quantum + 1x Amalgam in any Escalation build. Enemies hit hard enough to bypass healers. Immunity procs and status suppression keep you alive long enough to actually contribute damage.
With the Synesthesia buff, Division 2 skill build 2026 viability got a serious upgrade. Smart Cover with decent skill tiers and a few Synesthesia augments will cycle almost continuously. Test it before dismissing it.
Previously, all Division 2 Escalation Tokens wiped at season end. The devs reversed this decision. Every token you earned carries forward. Spend them on caches from the Escalation Requisition Vendor: the vendor next to the Escalation panel in the Base of Operations.
This is permanent. Tokens accumulate across seasons now. No artificial deadline, no panic spending.
Gear Mod and Skill Mod targeted loot in Escalation now drops properly. Heroic roll chances for Tiers 0–4, Legendary from Tier 5 up. This matters if you were getting nothing useful from those slots.
Starts June 2. Requires Division 2 Season Pass Tier 100 to unlock the extension track. Everything is on the free track: no premium pass required. Runs until season end.

|
Rise Up Cache |
Vanity, rare named items, seasonal/special exotics |
|
Prestige Rise Up Cache |
Guaranteed seasonal items, crafting materials, better bonus drop odds |
Notable named items available: Lexington, Turmoil, Stack Broker, Quick Step. Notable exotics with rare drop chance include Oraorus, Revenous, Eagle Bear, and Regulus. The Regulus is relevant for headshot builds and remains one of the harder exotics to obtain. This is your best window if you're missing it.
Season Pass XP: not normal XP: advances Stretch Goals. If you're not at Tier 100 before the patch window closes (roughly 5–10 hours downtime), you have until season end to reach it after the update.
Two Division 2 multiplier event windows are active this patch cycle:

Complete the Rise Up Climax Mission on Master difficulty. First clear guarantees the drop. Repeat runs give a chance.
No. Tokens are now permanent. They carry forward into every future season without wiping.
Quantum for survival. Echo for damage. Anomaly and Synesthesia are now genuinely competitive on skill builds.
Yes. Everything is on the free track. You need Season Pass Tier 100 to unlock it, that is all.
No. Climax Mission only. No caches, no vendors, no targeted loot from Countdown or open world.
