Bungie's farewell gift to the playerbase includes a Monument of Triumph full of triumphs nobody warned you about. "For the Bird" is one of them. It gatecrashes your Chatterwhite dreams and sends you into a raid. Classic.
The For the Bird Triumph is part of the Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph update (patch 9.7.0, live June 9, 2026). Complete it and you get 15 Legendary Marks plus the ability to purchase the Chatterwhite shader: a relic from Destiny 1 that veterans will feel nostalgic about and new players will shrug at. It costs 25 Marks at the Tenet of Death vendor, so you'll need to scrape together 10 more from somewhere else. Archie the dog can help with that. No, really.
WARNING: Hawthorne's Fated Deepsight quest is on page 2 of her inventory. Miss it and you'll wonder why nothing works. You're not the first. You won't be the last.

No DLC required. No excuses either. |
|
A fireteam |

25 Legendary Marks |
Tower Triumphs |
You only earn 15 from this triumph. Math is undefeated. |
Visit Hawthorne: Tower Bazaar Go to the Tower Bazaar. Talk to Hawthorne. Scroll past the first page of her inventory. Pick up the Fated Deepsight quest for the Vault of Glass. Not Garden of Salvation, not Last Wish: Vault of Glass, the free one.
Launch Vault of Glass Find five people who aren't incompetent. Launch the Vault of Glass raid. You need to complete every single encounter. Not some. All of them.
Complete All Five Encounters In order: activate the Confluxes to open the Vault; survive the Oracle sequence; kill the Templar; navigate the Gorgon Labyrinth and defeat the Gatekeepers; then face Atheon. All five. No shortcuts. The quest tracks each one.
Collect Your Deepsight Weapon Completing the raid auto-completes the Fated Deepsight quest. You receive one red-border Deepsight weapon: useful for crafting patterns if you care about that sort of thing.
Claim the Triumph Open your Triumphs menu. Claim "For the Bird." Collect 15 Legendary Marks. The Chatterwhite shader is now unlocked for purchase.
Buy Chatterwhite Head to the Tenet of Death vendor in the Tower Courtyard. Chatterwhite costs 25 Marks. You have 15. Go pet Archie at the far end of the Bazaar for the "Can You Pet the Dog?" Triumph: 10 more Marks. Problem solved.
In case you've never run this raid: or it's been so long you've forgotten: here's what the Vault of Glass encounters actually demand of you.
|
Encounter |
What You Do |
Common Failure Point |
|
Confluxes |
Defend three Vex plates simultaneously to open the Vault door |
Plate gets capped because someone wandered off |
|
Oracles |
Destroy a sequence of floating spheres in the correct order |
Someone shoots the wrong Oracle and everyone gets a debuff |
|
Templar |
Remove Templar's shield, kill adds, don't let him teleport |
Relic carrier drops the relic and the Templar teleports 4 times |
|
Gatekeeper + Labyrinth |
Navigate Gorgon's Labyrinth, then split team across past/future portals to defeat Gatekeepers |
Someone looks at a Gorgon and wipes the team |
|
Atheon |
Send three guardians through time portals, survive Oracle room, blow up Atheon's face when marked |
The Oracle room team panics, misses shots, everyone dies repeatedly |
NOTE: The Vault of Glass is a legacy Destiny 2 raid designed around six players. You can attempt it with fewer, but the Triumph requires all encounters, not just Atheon. Bring a full fireteam unless you enjoy suffering voluntarily.
You earn 15 Legendary Marks from this Triumph. Chatterwhite costs 25. Bungie did this on purpose. The quickest fix: find Archie the dog in the Tower Bazaar, near the far balcony past Hawthorne. Press the interact prompt. That's the entirety of the "Can You Pet the Dog?" Triumph: 10 more Marks. Congratulations on your thorough engagement with Destiny 2's endgame content.
If you want to grind further, the Legendary Marks reward system pays 15+ Marks per completed Triumph across 204 total available in the Monument of Triumph pass. Repeatable engram pulls from Tenet vendors award 2 Marks each with no time gate. Spend it wisely: the shader pool at the Tenet of Death includes some things that are actually worth buying.
It's white. It has a texture. It existed in Destiny 1 and people paid real raid hours to obtain it on a game that has since been sunset. Whether that history justifies running Vault of Glass in 2026 is entirely your problem. As a Monument of Triumph reward, it is permanent. No FOMO. No expiry. The Tenet of Death vendor will wait for you with the patience of a Vex construct and the warmth of one.
Hawthorne in the Tower Bazaar, page 2 of her inventory. It resets weekly and requires Vault of Glass.
No. Vault of Glass is free for all Destiny 2 players. Zero DLC, zero excuses, zero exceptions.
Technically possible but brutal. Vault of Glass was designed for six players. Good luck with Atheon alone.
Chatterwhite costs 25 Marks. Go pet Archie in the Bazaar for 10 more. Straightforward arithmetic.
No. Monument of Triumph is permanent with no end date. Bungie confirmed it stays indefinitely. Take your time.
