WoW Midnight Herbalism Guide 1–100: Leveling, Gold Farming & Trainer Locations
Say goodbye to Valorstone misery! WoW Midnight fixed gearing (mostly). Dive into our ultimate guide to conquer Dawncrests, Delves, and Raids!

World of Warcraft: Midnight, where the Void is acting up, the Blood Elves are stressed, and Blizzard has once again overhauled your inventory management. The good news? The universally despised Valorstones have been completely nuked from orbit. The bad news? You still have to grind, and the math will still humble you. WoW midnight Gearing Guide breaks down the new, streamlined Dawncrest economy, the updated "Hierarchy of Shame" gear tracks, and the optimal path to ensure you aren't the weakest link in your Silvermoon City raid group. So touch the Midnight Gearing Guide and learn:
1. Why did Blizzard completely nuke Valorstones, and what exactly replaced them?
2. How do you avoid wasting your precious, time-gated Spark of Radiance?
3. What is the "Hierarchy of Shame," and where does your weekly loot fit into it?
4. Can you still cheese your alt's item level with Warband-wide discounts?
5. Why is absolutely everyone suddenly hanging out in Silvermoon City?
The good news: the people who designed the Valorstones system from The War Within apparently had a long internal meeting, realized it was despised by approximately everyone, and killed it with extreme prejudice. Valorstones: those extra secondary currency you needed on top of Crests to upgrade anything: are completely gone in Midnight. You now upgrade gear with two things only: Dawncrests and a small gold cost. That's it. Minimalism is in.
The bad news: upgrade costs per rank have been increased to compensate, and the weekly Crest cap is still 100 per type. So it's streamlined in the "less currencies" sense, not in the "faster progression" sense. Blizzard giveth, Blizzard taketh away.
The other good news: the Explorer track has been removed entirely. You now start at Adventurer and work your way up. The gearing floor is lower, which sounds scary until you realize it makes early alt gearing substantially faster. Progress!
Key Summary of Changes
Every piece of endgame loot in Midnight belongs to a track. The track determines its item level range, how you upgrade it, and: most importantly: how much it will taunt you from your bags because it dropped in the wrong slot for the third week in a row.

Normal/Follower dungeons: NOT upgradeable |
Unranked gear from Normal dungeons is a participation trophy. You cannot upgrade it. It is strictly for leveling or filling slots when nothing else exists yet. Treat it accordingly.
Each upgrade rank costs 20 Dawncrests of the appropriate type plus a small gold payment. Upgrading from 1/6 to 6/6 costs 100 Dawncrests total: which is conveniently the exact weekly cap. So congratulations: you can fully upgrade exactly one piece of gear per week per track. Truly a thrilling mathematical coincidence.

Dawncrests are the seasonal upgrade currency of Midnight Season 1. There are five types, each corresponding directly to one gear track. No mixing, no crossing streams, no sneaking Champion crests onto Hero gear: each track has its own currency and its own weekly cap of 100 crests.

Upgrade vendors Cuzolth and Vaskarn are located in The Bazaar in Silvermoon City at coordinates 48.6, 62. Yes, we live in Silvermoon now. The Blood Elves are thrilled to have the world's fate resting on their golden spires.
Once you've fully geared yourself out of a lower track (every slot above that track's ilvl ceiling), you earn a Feat of Strength and unlock the ability to convert excess crests upward at a 3-to-1 ratio:
The math is humbling. 30-to-10. Don't think about it too hard.
Every expansion must have a time-gated crafting reagent that prevents you from immediately crafting god-tier gear, and Midnight's is the Spark of Radiance. You get one per week: no fragments this time around, just a clean whole Spark, which is actually a genuine improvement from Dragonflight's fragment system that required two weeks of patience just to get one craft.
Here's how crafted gear works:
Crafted gear can have Embellishments: powerful optional effects similar to legendaries, limited to two equipped at a time. These are often your best slot for pure throughput optimization and make professions actually matter for once.
You cannot convert crafted gear into Tier Set pieces at the Catalyst. Keep that in mind when choosing what to craft: don't waste Sparks on Tier slots (Head, Shoulders, Chest, Gloves, Legs).
To submit a crafting order, head to Mar'nah in The Bazaar in Silvermoon City. Bring your Sparks, your Thalassian Missive for stat customization, and a prayer that a skilled crafter accepts your order before the weekly reset.

Delves return in Midnight with Valeera as your companion, stepping in for Brann Bronzebeard who has presumably gone back to being a Legend elsewhere. Delves scale from Tier 1 to Tier 11.
The important distinction: Bountiful Delves are the ones that actually drop good gear. Normal Delves drop unranked 217 ilvl loot. Bountiful Delves require a Restored Coffer Key and award Bountiful Coffers with actual upgrade-track loot.

Completing Delves progresses the Great Vault's World Activities category. Do them, especially early in the season.
Prey is Midnight's new open-world activity. You pick up a contract from Magister Astalor Bloodsworn in Murder Row, Silvermoon City, choose a target in one of Midnight's zones, complete zone activities to track it down, survive ambushes: yes, your target may jump you mid-hunt: and then defeat it.
Three difficulties exist: Normal (anyone can help), Hard (Torments activate, enclosed encounters), and Nightmare (stacking Torments, essentially solo endgame content). Hard and Nightmare are where the real Dawncrest income and gear rewards live.
Prey has its own seasonal progression track called the Preyseeker's Journey with 10 ranks. Your first four Hunts each week give 1,000 Journey points each. After that, additional hunts give 50. Do four per week and move on with your life.
Prey rewards include:
Important: Prey does NOT count toward Great Vault World Activities category: only Delves, world quests, and world events fill that slot. Plan accordingly. Prey gets its own separate outdoor track.

Mythic+ Season 1 starts on March 24, 2026: one week after the regular Season 1 launch. Until then: Normal, Heroic, and baseline Mythic only. No affixes, no timers, no suffering.
The Season 1 Mythic+ pool includes 8 dungeons: 4 from Midnight and 4 returning from older expansions. End-of-dungeon loot and Great Vault rewards scale as follows:

The Great Vault scales up to +18 in Season 1 (previously capped lower). Every key level you push translates into measurably better Vault loot, which makes grinding higher keys actually worthwhile. Revolutionary concept.

Tier Set pieces (Tier 35) drop from five bosses across Voidspire and Dreamrift. Crafted gear cannot be converted into Tier at the Catalyst. You must actually kill the bosses or get lucky in the Vault. Welcome to WoW.
Complete 1 / 3 / 6 raid bosses per week to unlock the three Great Vault Raid slots.
World Bosses drop Champion track gear and are available once Season 1 begins. They reset weekly and are open-world free-for-alls with no lockout, making them efficient early-season stops. World Quests and outdoor events fill Adventurer and Veteran track gaps and contribute to Vault World Activities progress.

The Great Vault is located in Silvermoon City (the Great Vault moved, because of course it did: everything is in Silvermoon now). Vaultkeeper Elysa manages your weekly rewards.
Up to 9 items can be unlocked in three categories: Raid, Dungeons, and World: by meeting activity thresholds the previous week. You pick one item. Always one. No matter how many slots you unlocked, no matter how many tears fell.

If you don't select loot, you receive a Thalassian Token of Merit per unlocked slot. These can be exchanged with Elysa for gold, Dawncrests, or socketable upgrades. Take the crests.
Here is what you should do, presented with the full understanding that you will log on, immediately queue for something too hard, wipe three times, and then complain in trade chat.
Season 1 hasn't started yet. Raiders are foaming at the mouth. Breathe.
Your available high-value activities: Heroic dungeons, Hard and Nightmare Prey, Bountiful Delves Tier 1–8. These can reward up to Champion track gear before Season 1 even officially opens. Run them aggressively.
Season 1 opens. Raids are available in LFR, Normal, and Heroic. The actual gearing loop begins.

Keystones are live. The real Dungeon Farmers emerge from their caves.

Mythic difficulty opens for the truly committed. Myth track gear becomes available from the top floor.

One of the genuine quality-of-life improvements in Midnight is the warband-wide achievement discount system. When your main character's average ilvl surpasses the maximum ceiling of a specific gear track, you earn a Feat of Strength for that track. This cuts upgrade costs by 50% for all other characters on your warband for that track.
Example: Your main hits average ilvl 238+ (above Adventurer 6/6 at 237). You earn Adventurer of the Dawn. Every alt you roll can now upgrade Adventurer gear for 10 Dawncrests per rank instead of 20.
The progression sequence:
|
Achievement |
Trigger Condition |
Alt Discount Unlocked |
|
Adventurer of the Dawn |
All slots above ilvl 237 |
50% off Adventurer upgrades |
|
Veteran of the Dawn |
All slots above ilvl 250 |
50% off Veteran upgrades |
|
Champion of the Dawn |
All slots above ilvl 263 |
50% off Champion upgrades + can convert Champion crests to Hero |
|
Hero of the Dawn |
All slots above ilvl 276 |
50% off Hero upgrades + can convert Hero crests to Myth |
|
Myth of the Dawn |
All slots at ilvl 289 |
Maximum prestige, no more upgrades, congratulations |
There's also an intra-character discount: once you've upgraded one slot to a certain rank, upgrading a different slot on the same character to that same rank is cheaper. For example, if your chest is at Champion 4/6, getting your helmet to Champion 4/6 costs fewer crests. Upgrade one slot at a time to a target rank, then bring others up to match at discount.
Prioritize weapons and trinkets first. These contribute the most raw throughput per ilvl point. A better sword beats a better belt every time. Craft your first Spark of Radiance into a weapon unless your weapon situation is somehow already handled.
Don't upgrade gear you're going to replace immediately. This sounds obvious. You'll forget it at 2am on patch day. If a slot is your weakest and you just need something to queue for Normal raid, buy cheap, don't over-invest Dawncrests.
Do 4 Preys + 4 Delves each week. This efficiently fills all three Great Vault World Activity slots while giving you Dawncrest income from both systems. After 8 activities, diminishing returns kick in hard.
Don't craft into Tier Set slots. Head, Shoulders, Chest, Hands, and Legs are Tier slots. Crafted gear cannot be converted at the Catalyst. Wasting Sparks here means you'll wear it forever or delete it: neither is good.
Embellishments go on non-Tier slots. You have two embellishment slots. Use them on non-Tier gear for maximum flexibility. Popular choices are weapons (where Tier never drops) or jewelry.
Check your Vault on Tuesday (NA) or Wednesday (EU). Obvious, but the Vault doesn't wait for you, and you can't retroactively unlock more slots after reset. Log in, do your activities, don't forget.
Unlock Delve Tiers proactively. Tier 11 Delves are the highest-rewarding solo activity in the game, giving Hero Dawncrests. Get there as early as possible in the season rather than grinding Tier 5s forever.
The Great Vault rewards scale to the best key you ran. One +10 beats ten +3s for Vault quality. If you only have time for a few dungeons, push the hardest key you can complete, not the most keys at low level.

You now only need Dawncrests and a small amount of gold to upgrade your gear. Each gear track has its own specific Dawncrest type.
You are capped at 100 Dawncrests per type each week. Since every upgrade rank costs 20 crests, you can fully upgrade exactly one piece of gear per track weekly.
You get one Spark of Radiance per week to craft high-level gear. Most items require two Sparks, while two-handed weapons require four. Remember, crafted gear cannot be converted into Tier sets!
Absolutely. Bountiful Delves require a Restored Coffer Key but drop high-tier upgrade-track loot, unlike normal Delves. Pushing Tier 11 Delves is the best solo path to Hero track gear.
No, Prey events have their own progression track and do not count toward your Great Vault World Activities. Stick to Delves and world quests to fill those specific Vault slots.
Hitting the max item level of a gear track on your main unlocks a Warband-wide achievement. This permanently cuts the Dawncrest upgrade cost by 50% for all your alts on that track!
The Great Vault, along with upgrade vendors and crafting NPCs, has been relocated to The Bazaar in Silvermoon City. Vaultkeeper Elysa will hand out your weekly disappointment there.
