The Venomous Abyss is the flagship raid of Midnight Season 2, buried in the Temple of Ula'tek on the Coiled Isle: a new outdoor zone off the east coast of Zul'Aman. Zul'jan managed to unleash a five-headed snake goddess who's been festering underground since before most civilizations could spell "venom." Congratulations on being the ones to clean it up.
This is a PTR-based overview of the Venomous Abyss raid encounter roster. Mechanics, tuning, and loot tables are all subject to change. If anything here kills your raid team, that's a skill issue and also possibly a PTR bug.

All eight encounters are set inside or around the Temple of Ula'tek. The final boss is locked during PTR testing, as per Blizzard's proud tradition of hiding the part everyone actually wants to see.

Final: Locked on PTR |
Ula'tek is a snake goddess once worshipped by the Amani trolls of Zul'Aman: and some theorize she may be connected to the Old Gods, though that's considered unlikely. What's not in dispute: she was imprisoned over 16,000 years ago, and a troll named Zul'jan had the presence of mind to accidentally set her free. Season 2 is, in large part, a direct consequence of his poor life choices.
The new outdoor zone, the Coiled Isle, serves as your gateway to the raid. It features zone events, rare elites, Cursed Fishing, and the Altar of Corrosion: a minor talent tree for island progression. Getting oriented there is a prerequisite before the Venomous Abyss proper, not a suggestion.
The WoW Patch 12.1 Venomous Abyss storyline also ties into the broader Zul'jan plotline running through Midnight, with Zul'jarra pursuing him to the island. The Bargained Crown boss in particular lands right at the intersection of troll politics and catastrophic transformation.
Every item in the table below drops from Ula'tek herself on all difficulties. LFR sits at 219. Normal, Heroic, and Mythic scale accordingly. The Slumbering Coil Curio and housing items are their own category of rewards for people who like filling rooms with serpent memorabilia.

All thirteen classes have tier sets dropping across the Venomous Abyss roster. Blizzard's stated goal for the Midnight Season 2 class sets was to make them more complex than Season 1: emphasizing consistent damage output rather than burst windows. Whether they achieved that is a question for people who enjoy writing spec spreadsheets.
The Midnight Catalyst carries over into Season 2 with a meaningful upgrade: converted pieces now inherit the secondary stats of the item you feed in. So if you have a Haste/Crit chest from Mythic+, you keep Haste/Crit after conversion. This changes what's worth farming outside the Venomous Abyss raid considerably.
unlocks wing by wing. Normal and Heroic open on day one. Mythic opens in week two of the season: which is when the real Venomous Abyss progression begins for guilds that care about world ranks.

Midnight Season 2 begins one week after Patch 12.1 goes live. Expected autumn 2026. No confirmed date yet.
Yes. The Midnight Catalyst converts eligible Mythic+ or world gear into tier pieces. Slower, but a full alternative path.
Snake goddess, imprisoned 16,000+ years, possibly Old God-adjacent. She earned it by sheer geological patience.
Normal for story and basic gear. Heroic for Ahead of the Curve. Mythic if your guild has a functioning loot council and a therapist.
No. Ula'tek is not testable on PTR. Blizzard tradition. She will surprise everyone equally on launch day.
