Your weekly reminder that 1.7% still exists. Full Ashes of Al'ar farming guide for TBC Classic Anniversary is live – location, Kael'thas, and quiet de

The Ashes of Al'ar is an epic flying mount that teaches you the ability Ashes of Al'ar, summoning a radiant phoenix that flies at 310% speed — the fastest tier available in The Burning Crusade. It is visually unlike anything else in the game: an ethereal bird of living fire that leaves glowing embers trailing behind it. It is also the reason you will be setting alarms for your weekly raid reset for the foreseeable future.
The mount drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep (The Eye), located in Netherstorm. Drop rate: approximately 1.7%. One attempt per character per week.
The Arithmetic of Suffering At 1.7% per kill, you reach a 50% cumulative chance of having seen the mount after roughly 40 resets. That is approximately ten months of weekly farming. After 100 kills the probability climbs to about 83%. The remaining 17% of raiders are still here. They have simply stopped talking about World of Warcraft Anniversary items help.

Tempest Keep is a crystalline naaru fortress floating in the skies of Netherstorm, Outland's northernmost zone. You cannot reach it on foot. You need a flying mount. The irony of requiring a flying mount to farm a flying mount is not lost on anyone, and Blizzard has never apologized for it.
The encounter sequence inside The Eye is linear — you must clear through all bosses to reach Kael'thas. Experienced farm groups clear the full instance in 60 to 90 minutes. PuG groups clear it in however long it takes someone to stand in fire during the final boss and trigger a wipe, which is always longer than you budgeted.
Kael'thas Sunstrider is a multi-phase encounter and the sole source of Ashes of Al'ar. This section covers only the mechanics that will wipe your raid and prevent the loot roll from ever happening. For a full encounter breakdown, this is not that guide.
The most important single thing to know about this fight: interrupt Pyroblast, always. It is a 4-second cast dealing roughly 50,000 Fire damage to your tank. If it lands, your tank dies. If your tank dies, the encounter ends. The mount does not drop from a wipe. Assign interrupters, rotate them, do not let it complete.
The second most important thing: kill the Phoenix Egg immediately. When a Phoenix dies during the fight, it leaves an Egg. That Egg hatches into a second Phoenix if not destroyed instantly. Two Phoenixes simultaneously will wipe the raid. Every member of your 25-person group needs to understand this priority before the pull.
The Speech You Will Memorize Against Your Will During Phase 2 of the encounter, Kael'thas delivers a scripted monologue that cannot be skipped and cannot be accelerated. You will hear it every single clear. By your thirtieth kill you will be able to recite it in full from memory. This is not a warning. It is a prophecy.
Every time Kael'thas Sunstrider dies, he drops the Verdant Sphere at 100% rate — one per kill, every week, guaranteed. It begins the quest Kael'thas and the Verdant Sphere, which sends you to A'dal in Shattrath City and rewards a powerful item level 138 epic neck piece.
The quest reward is a one-time choice per character. The sphere will continue dropping every week but only the first one has quest value. Pick it up on your very first kill and turn it in before you forget it exists.

The Long View The Ashes of Al'ar has existed since 2007. Players have been farming it through every re-release of TBC content since. Some got it on their first kill. Others are still here. The mount does not care about your schedule, your dedication, or the number of weeks you've logged. It rolls a 1.7% die and goes World of Warcraft Anniversary reputation.

Exclusively from Kael'thas Sunstrider. The phoenix mount does not drop from the phoenix. Make peace with this immediately.
Approximately 1.7% per kill, once per character per week. The math is not on your side and never will be.
No. Any level 70 enters freely. It was removed. The one mercy Blizzard offered and then quietly never mentioned again.
Yes. Each character gets an independent weekly roll. More characters means more attempts. Simple, effective, and quietly exhausting over time.
The sphere drops every week at 100% rate. The quest reward is once per character. Turn it in on your first kill and do not forget.
