Windrose Get Copper and Bronze Tools Fast

Getting started in Windrose can feel a bit overwhelming at first, and it is completely normal to experience a few setbacks while finding your footing on the islands! Early survival can be quite a challenge, but upgrading your gear is a wonderful way to make your journey much smoother.

Quick Tip: Before diving deep into your adventure, it’s a great idea to make sure your system matches the game's PC requirements. Running the game on an SSD can help keep your frame rates smooth and lag-free while exploring the beautiful open world.

Clarifying Your First Metal Tier

There is a common rumor going around that the first upgrade path leads to bronze tools. To clear up any confusion, you will actually be crafting Copper tools first! Real-world bronze requires a bit of tin, but here in Windrose, copper is your perfect stepping stone out of the stone age. We will focus on getting you these copper upgrades so you can replace your basic stone tools.

Step 1: Locating and Mining the Copper Cave

To begin your metalworking journey, your first goal is to follow the early main story quests:

  1. Explore the Island: Check out the map markers and question marks on your starting beach island. One of these will naturally reveal a Copper Deposit Cave (marked on your map with a pickaxe icon).
  2. Bring a Stone Pickaxe: Make sure you have a basic Stone Pickaxe (3 Wood + 3 Stone) ready at your Workbench.
  3. Light up the Cave: Caves can get quite dark inside! You can press B to open your build menu and place down a few floor torches so you can see the ore nodes clearly.
  4. Mine the Nodes: Strike the copper nodes to gather a healthy mix of copper ore and stone. Just remember to clear some space in your inventory before heading in, as ore can fill up your slots quickly!

Step 2: Setting Up Your Charcoal Kiln and Smelter

Once you return to camp with your raw ore, you will need to process it. If you haven't unlocked the next steps yet, completing your initial mining exploration will trigger the tutorial quest to gather Clay

  • Finding Clay: Take a stroll along the coastline where the sandy beach meets the green grass. Look for parched, cracked, muddy-brown patches—these are your clay deposits! Swing your Stone Pickaxe at them to gather what you need.
  • Build Your Stations: Open your build menu to construct your refining stations:
    • Charcoal Kiln: 20 Clay + 20 Wood
  • Smelting Furnace: 15 Clay + 30 Stone
  • Make Charcoal: Place Wood into your Charcoal Kiln to produce Charcoal. Because the burning process takes a little bit of time, building two kilns can be a wonderful way to speed up your production!
  • Smelt Copper Ingots: Put your Charcoal and your Copper Ore into the Smelting Furnace. The recipe requires 4 Copper Ore and 1 Charcoal per Copper Ingot.

Step 3: Crafting Your New Copper Tools

Once your furnace finishes smelting your metals, head over to your Workbench! You can combine your shiny new ingots with wood to craft your upgraded gear:

  • Copper Pickaxe: 5 Copper Ingot + 5 Wood
  • Copper Axe: 5 Copper Ingot + 5 Wood

These upgraded tools will drastically speed up your resource gathering and eventually allow you to mine advanced resources like iron once you make your way to the Foothills biome. With these in hand, you will be well on your way to upgrading your camp from a simple shelter into a beautiful, fully developed fort.
