Getting started in Windrose can feel a bit overwhelming at first, and it is completely normal to experience a few setbacks while finding your footing on the islands! Early survival can be quite a challenge, but upgrading your gear is a wonderful way to make your journey much smoother.
Quick Tip: Before diving deep into your adventure, it’s a great idea to make sure your system matches the game's PC requirements. Running the game on an SSD can help keep your frame rates smooth and lag-free while exploring the beautiful open world.
There is a common rumor going around that the first upgrade path leads to bronze tools. To clear up any confusion, you will actually be crafting Copper tools first! Real-world bronze requires a bit of tin, but here in Windrose, copper is your perfect stepping stone out of the stone age. We will focus on getting you these copper upgrades so you can replace your basic stone tools.
To begin your metalworking journey, your first goal is to follow the early main story quests:
Once you return to camp with your raw ore, you will need to process it. If you haven't unlocked the next steps yet, completing your initial mining exploration will trigger the tutorial quest to gather Clay.
Once your furnace finishes smelting your metals, head over to your Workbench! You can combine your shiny new ingots with wood to craft your upgraded gear:
These upgraded tools will drastically speed up your resource gathering and eventually allow you to mine advanced resources like iron once you make your way to the Foothills biome. With these in hand, you will be well on your way to upgrading your camp from a simple shelter into a beautiful, fully developed fort.
