SWTOR Mount Guide: Every Way to Get a Speeder in TOR

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, a mount is a vehicle or creature that carries your character faster than jogging in full armor ever could. There are hundreds of them. You have, presumably, zero. This is fixable. The SWTOR mount guide below will walk you through every acquisition method, from embarrassingly cheap to soul-destroyingly expensive.

Mounts are cosmetic. Every single one of them moves at the same 110% speed once you have Speeder Piloting Rank 3. The Rancor that costs 200 million credits on the GTN moves at exactly the same pace as the 8,000-credit starter speeder you bought on Tatooine. Let that sink in while you open your wallet.

Speeder Piloting: The Tax on Moving Fast

Before you can use any mount at all, you need Speeder Piloting: a passive skill you buy from your class trainer. Three ranks, three tiers of speed. Without it, your extremely cool mount sits in your inventory like a ship in a bottle.

Subscribers unlock mounts at level 10. Free-to-play players wait until level 20. This is the game's way of telling you it prefers your money. Subscribers also receive 500 free Cartel Coins per month, which makes the math slightly less offensive.

The Cartel Market: Pay Real Money, Ride Something Ridiculous

The Cartel Market mounts section is where SWTOR monetizes your desire to ride a giant spider or a floating throne. Mounts appear here directly or inside randomized Cartel Packs. Direct sale is honest. Cartel Packs are a slot machine wearing a Star Wars costume.

Almost all Cartel Market mounts are purely cosmetic: no performance advantage, no secret speed boost, just the right to look better than someone who farmed the same content for three weeks. Once you use a mount, it enters your Collections and can be unlocked account-wide for an additional Cartel Coin fee based on rarity.

Warning Buying a mount from the Cartel Market does not give it to all your characters. You use it on one character, pay again to unlock account-wide in Collections. Bronze unlocks cost 60 CC. Platinum unlocks cost 400 CC. Plan accordingly or suffer the discovery mid-purchase.

  • Bronze rarity: 60 CC account unlock
  • Silver rarity: 240 CC account unlock
  • Platinum rarity: 400 CC account unlock

GTN Mount Farming: The Credit Sink You Deserve

The Galactic Trade Network is SWTOR's player-driven auction house and a perfectly reasonable place to spend an unreasonable amount of credits. Most Cartel Market mounts rotate in and out of the CM, so the GTN becomes the only place to find older or temporarily unavailable ones: at whatever price another player has decided your desperation is worth.

The cheapest starter speeders on Tatooine run 8,000 credits and move at exactly the same speed as a 200 million credit trophy mount. If you're new and broke, buy the ugly one. No one is looking at your character as much as you think. The SWTOR GTN mount farming meta revolves around checking listings daily, flipping underpriced rare mounts, and having the patience of someone who enjoys spreadsheets.

Tip If a mount you want isn't listed on the GTN or the Cartel Market, post in Fleet General Chat that you're buying. You'll either find someone, or get mocked. Both outcomes are informative.

Operations Mounts: Earn It or Go Home

If you want to feel genuinely superior to strangers on the Fleet, get an SWTOR rare operation mount. These drop from specific Operations bosses at a low random rate, cannot be bought on the GTN, and cannot be traded. You have to actually earn them.

Examples include the Cybernetic Rancor from the Eternal Championship and the Hutt Crown associated with Karagga's Palace. These mounts sit in the "you were there and you suffered for it" category, which is the correct category for prestige items. Operation mounts are also unlockable in Collections, meaning once you get it, you can at least spread the achievement across your account without doing it again.

Reputation Vendor Mounts: The Long, Miserable, Rewarding Grind

Several factions in SWTOR sell exclusive mounts once you've achieved Legend rank with them: the highest reputation tier. SWTOR reputation vendor mounts require completing specific daily and weekly quests for that faction over an extended period. The Czerka Executive Cruiser, for instance, is gated behind CZ-198 Legend rank and costs 1,000,000 credits on top of the reputation requirement.

This is the game rewarding consistent effort rather than a single lucky drop or a credit card. Respect that, even if your schedule does not.

  • Complete daily missions for your chosen faction every day
  • Stack Reputation trophies from content to speed up the grind
  • Weekly caps exist: you cannot rush this with money alone
  • Legend rank is the ceiling; check each faction's vendor once you hit it

Galactic Seasons: The Seasonal Battlepass You Will Not Finish

Galactic Seasons is SWTOR's seasonal reward track: a time-limited progression system offering mounts, companions, cosmetics, and Cartel Coins. Season 10 "Secrets of the Syndicate" is the current active season as of 2026. Subscribers can earn up to 15 Galactic Season Tokens per season; free players get 5. The track stretches to rank 100 for subscribers.

SWTOR Galactic Seasons rewards in Season 10 include 13 mounts total: 8 creature mounts and 5 speeders. Standout additions include the Shadowlight speeder: a one-of-a-kind design that looks more like a spacecraft than a vehicle: and companion-compatible Czerka Taxi mounts called the Blue Shift and Event Horizon, which let a humanoid companion ride shotgun.

Note Retired Galactic Seasons rewards can be purchased from Jaleit Nall on the Fleet using old Galactic Season Tokens. Her inventory rotates weekly on a four-group cycle. Check it. Don't miss it. Don't cry about it later.

Twitch Drop Mounts: Watch Streams, Receive Loot, Feel Nothing

Periodically, BioWare runs SWTOR Twitch Drop mount campaigns where watching SWTOR streams on Twitch for a set number of hours rewards you with a free mount. Past examples include the Orlean Voidstream (4 hours of viewing required) and the T2-26 Scout Walker. You link your Twitch and SWTOR accounts, watch streams in the SWTOR category, and the mount arrives by in-game mail.

You do not need to watch in one sitting. You do not need to watch the same streamer. You do not need to interact. You simply need to exist in front of a stream for the required time. This is, without question, the lowest-effort mount source in the game. It is also time-limited and gone the moment the campaign ends. Keep notifications on or keep walking.

Companion Mounts: Inflict Your Speeder on Someone Else

SWTOR companion mounts are a specific category of vehicle that allow your active companion to ride alongside you. There are five such mounts in the game. Two are currently obtainable: the Blue Shift and the Event Horizon from Galactic Season 10. The GDU CGL Droid Carrier, available from the Master the Fight: Cargo Transport Bundle, seats both a humanoid companion and a ground-type pet simultaneously: a crowd of NPCs on one speeder, which is either charming or horrifying depending on your faction.

Pet mounts: vehicles that seat a ground-type miniature companion: number fourteen in the game, most obtainable for free through achievements. The Desert Sands Lifter and Frozen Peaks Lifter are free unlocks from the Dynamic Encounters achievement tab.

Free Mounts: Dignity Has a Floor Price of Zero

There are multiple ways to get perfectly functional mounts without spending a credit, a Cartel Coin, or a subscription. Promo codes from past events still circulate: codes like NYCANTINA16 and SWCANTINA17 award account-wide Korrealis speeders to every character you own or will create. Redeem them on the SWTOR website under your account settings.

Free-to-play players can also buy the basic 8,000-credit speeder from Tatooine vendors. It moves at 90% speed with Rank 1 piloting. That is not slow. That is, in fact, faster than running. It is not glamorous, but neither is complaining about free transportation in a galaxy far, far away.

SWTOR Mount Guide: Every Way to Get a Speeder in TOR FAQ

How do I get my first mount in SWTOR?

Buy Speeder Piloting Rank 1 from your class trainer at level 10, then purchase an 8,000-credit speeder on Tatooine or the Fleet.

Are all SWTOR mounts the same speed?

Yes. All mounts cap at 110% speed with Rank 3 Speeder Piloting. The only exception is the Galactic Seasons endgame mount, which has its own tier.

How does the SWTOR Collections system work for mounts?

Use a mount on any character to add it to Collections. Pay the Cartel Coin unlock fee once to access it on every character, every server, forever.

Can free-to-play players get good mounts without paying?

Yes: starter speeders, promo code Korrealis mounts, Twitch Drops, and achievement-unlocked pet mounts are all free and fully functional.

Where do I find rare mounts that aren't on the Cartel Market?

Check the GTN, run relevant Operations for drop chances, or grind reputation to Legend rank with the faction that sells the mount you want.
