Stop buying overpriced garbage. This PoE2 ES crafting guide shows how to turn white bases into sellable rare armor in the first week: for less currenc

Divine Orbs drop frequently enough in current leagues that players get access to currency earlier than before. Inflation follows: bases cost more, blue crafting currency costs more, and everyone is trying to flip the same tier-1 chests. The window to profit from early league item flipping is real but narrow. Roughly 7–10 days. After that, your T3 chest competes with a dozen identical ones and buyers start lowballing.
This guide covers crafting Energy Shield body armor and helmets for sale: not your personal BiS. If you want BiS, go farm. This is manufacturing.
Bases drop from level 65+ content, when maps begin. You need a loot filter for Path of Exile 2. Without one, you will walk past your best base of the session because it looks identical to white junk. Use NeverSink's filter via filterblade.xyz: set it to Semi-Strict, enable PoE2 mode, sync to your account. Done. Green-highlighted bases on the floor are your raw material.
The three base types worth picking up: ES chests (Widowsilk Robe / Scholar's Vestment tier), ES helmets ( Hubris Circlet equivalent), ES+Evasion hybrids. Pure armor bases are for other people's problems.
Alternatively: buy bases from trade. Filter for flat ES prefix (additive, not percentage) + item level 79–80. These are called "flat" or "plus" bases colloquially. They accept Greater Essence of Torment more reliably. You should pay 20–30 Exalted Orbs for a workable blank. If it costs more, do the math before clicking.
Take your white base. Hit it with an Orb of Transmutation to make it magic. Then, critically, look at what you got.
The goal at this stage: a magic item with one prefix you want and one suffix slot available. From here you either hit it with a Regal Orb to promote to rare, or move directly to essences if you have them. The Regal Orb upgrade strategy is valid when you can't afford essences: it gives a free random rare mod with open slots for Exalted Orb spam.
Augmentation Orbs are cheap until suddenly they aren't. Early league, hoard them. Use them on bases with a confirmed good first mod only.
This is the actual craft. Essences guarantee a specific modifier: the only truly deterministic tool available here. For ES gear you want the Greater Essence of Loathing (chaos resist) or the relevant ES-boosting variant. Chaos resist is more universally useful because not every buyer runs Chaos Inoculation.
Important caveat (Patch 0.5.0+): Essences are now classified as crafted modifiers, meaning they conflict with the Alloy currency system. One crafted mod per item. Plan accordingly: don't use an essence on a base that already has a crafted mod, or you're overwriting your own work.
Apply the essence. You now have a rare item with one guaranteed mod. Two open prefix slots and two open suffix slots remain. This is where Exalted Orbs enter. Each one adds a random mod to an open slot. Exalted Orb crafting mechanics are simple: right-click, left-click rare item, watch something mediocre appear and try to feel nothing.
Before you start farming orbs trying to get T1 stats on all six slots: stop. You do not need perfection. You need sellable. A body armor with T3 ES, T4 chaos resist, T2 cold resist, and some life is a 10 Divine item in week one. Perfect rolls matter in week four when supply is up and buyers are picky.
Add quality. Use a Perfect Fossil equivalent or quality currency on the base. Adding quality increases the base ES value multiplicatively. Path of Exile 2 item quality is not cosmetic: it compounds the base roll. A 30% quality chest with decent mods beats a 0% quality chest with slightly better mods in many cases.
Add an Iron Rune socket if the item has open socket slots. Runes add flat ES and are already included in any buyer's expectation at this tier.
The most common mistake: spamming Exalts into open slots and getting garbage in both prefixes. The solution is filling suffixes deliberately before touching prefixes. Once all three suffix slots are occupied, any Exalt or Abyssal Bone you use must land in a prefix. This is basic slot math, not witchcraft.

Do NOT use an Orb of Annulment on early-league crafts unless you have a T1 item worth protecting. The chance to delete your only good mod is real. Annulments are for people who can afford to feel sick.
Divine Orb rerolling values on your own craft makes sense in exactly one scenario: you have a six-mod item with the right mod types but one of them rolled embarrassingly low. A T1 ES mod at 8% when the range goes to 24%? Roll it. A T2 resist at 9% when you need 15% to close a cap? Roll it.
Divines do not change mod tiers: only values within a tier. If you have T4 ES, a Divine keeps it T4. You need to actually get T1 through crafting, not prayer. Don't waste Divines fishing for tier upgrades. That's not how it works and you should have learned this by now.

Gold is the silent killer. Every trade you make through the in-game market bleeds gold, and gold runs out faster than patience. gold farming Path of Exile 2 between crafting sessions is not optional: it is load-bearing infrastructure. When the gold runs dry, the craft grinds to a halt regardless of how much currency you have sitting in the stash.
Instead of farming maps for bases, you can buy underpriced ones from trade and finish them. Use the PoE2 trade site live search: filter for flat ES prefix + item level 79+, set a max price, and turn on live notifications. Items with one good prefix and no suffixes are often listed cheaply because the seller doesn't want to craft.
Chests with a percentage ES prefix bought from trade are higher risk: you cannot add a Greater Essence improvement to a slot that already has a percentage mod of the same type. Buy flat (additive) ES prefixed bases for essence crafting. Buy percentage bases only when you found them yourself and have full context on remaining slots.
ES helmet crafting PoE2 follows the same formula as chests but with lower base costs and faster turnover. A passive in the skill tree converts helmet ES into evasion value, making full ES helmets relevant to builds that otherwise don't stack ES. This broadens your buyer pool significantly.
Helmet bases at item level 79–80 with a Spirit or flat ES roll move in 1–3 days. Chest pieces sometimes sit longer. If inventory management is a bottleneck, helmets are the better product.
Day 7–10 is when the PoE2 league start economy shifts. New crafters flood the market, Divines stop being scarce, and T3/T4 items start competing with T1/T2 items at similar price points because supply outpaces demand. The x2.5 margins compress toward x1.2 very quickly.
After week two: pivot to more specialized items: gloves with damage mods for specific builds, boots with movement speed + resist combinations, or helmets targeting specific ascendancies with high demand. The bulk ES chest market is commoditized. Individual niche items retain margin longer.

No. T3–T4 with Spirit and two resists sells for 1–3 Divines easily. Buyers are desperate early.
40–50 Exalts gets you one base, one essence, and three Exalts. That's the minimum viable craft.
Only if you enjoy gambling with no floor. Essences guarantee one mod; Chaos Orbs guarantee nothing.
Yes, if the item already has two good prefixes and you only need one more specific stat.
Technically yes. You'll also walk past every good base. Filterblade.xyz takes three minutes to set up.
