PoE 2 Huntress Best Build
New sarcastic PoE2 character creation guide is live: classes, attributes, ascendancies, and leagues explained without wasting your precious time.

You have downloaded a game whose entire philosophy is "suffering is a feature." This path of exile 2 character creation guide will walk you through every screen you'll click before Wraeclast inevitably ruins your evening. Read carefully; the game will not care if you don't.
Before you even see a class, the game asks how much you want to suffer. Standard is Softcore: die, respawn, cry quietly, continue. Hardcore means one death ends the character permanently, which is either thrilling or a personality flaw depending on who you ask. Understanding poe2 hardcore vs softcore before committing will save you a therapy session later.

Path of Exile 2 currently offers eight playable classes out of a planned twelve, each locked to one or two of the three core attributes: Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. Class selection is permanent, unlike your Ascendancy, which you can still ruin later at your leisure. This is the part of the poe2 beginner guide section where people usually overthink for twenty minutes and pick the Warrior anyway.

If you are struggling between two options, check any current poe2 class tier list before committing, then ignore it anyway and play what looks fun, because the meta will change before you finish Act 2.
Unlike the first game, attributes here don't scale your damage directly. They're gatekeepers for gear and skill gems, and a slow drip of passive stats. Ignore them at your own peril; every serious poe2 attributes guide will tell you the same three facts, so here they are, without the padding.

Attribute |
Grants |
Cares About It Most |

Strength |
+2 Life per point |
Warrior, Mercenary, Huntress, Druid |
|
Dexterity |
+5 Accuracy per point |
Ranger, Monk, Mercenary, Huntress |
|
Intelligence |
+2 Mana per point |
Witch, Sorceress, Monk, Druid |
Attributes don't grow automatically from leveling; you get them from gear and from "+5 Any Attribute" nodes scattered across the passive tree like breadcrumbs for people who forgot to check requirements before equipping a helmet.
Each of the eight classes branches into two or three Ascendancy subclasses, unlocked through Trials scattered across the campaign, not through the old Labyrinth. Once you commit, your build finally becomes a build instead of a collection of hopeful guesses. Anyone browsing a path of exile 2 leagues reset for a fresh start will re-pick these from scratch, so get comfortable with the process.
A Trial existing "somewhere in the campaign" is the game's polite way of saying you'll walk past it twice before noticing.
Naming is the only step where the game lets you have fun without consequence. Pick something dramatic; it'll be on the death recap screen soon enough. After that, you're dropped into Act 1 with a basic attack and nothing else, because this is fundamentally the poe2 passive skill tree game's way of saying "earn your build."
For the indecisive, here's the most laconic poe2 classes summary this format allows: melee wants Warrior or Mercenary, ranged wants Ranger, magic wants Witch or Sorceress, hybrid nonsense wants Monk, Huntress, or Druid. That's the entire decision tree. Everything else is personal taste and forum arguments.

Warrior or Mercenary, since both tank hits reasonably well while you learn mechanics without constant, humiliating deaths.
No, class is permanent forever, but Ascendancy can be swapped later through the campaign's Trial system.
Standard, unless you enjoy permanent character death and explaining that decision to yourself later.
No, they grant Life, Accuracy, or Mana, and unlock gear and gem requirements instead of raw damage.
Twelve total are planned, with eight currently playable and four more still unreleased at time of writing.
