Bungie's Marathon Season 2: Nightfall is live. Survive Night Marsh, field the Sentinel shell, grind The Cradle, and try Sponsored Survival: or don't.
Marathon is Bungie's extraction shooter set on the corpse of a colony world called Tau Ceti IV. You drop in, loot, shoot things that didn't ask to be shot, and attempt to leave with your stuff. Season 2, named Nightfall, launched June 2, 2026. If you're reading this later: it's still the same game, just darker now, literally.
YUP! WE KNOW! THIS ONE IS NOT the BEST GUIDE IN THE WORLD about MARATHON SEASON 2. our new guides will be better. But as for our excuse for a situation, wi give you a CRINGEBLOG promocode. the unique promo, which is work for EVERY OFFER IN OUR SITE! use it Wisely ;-)
Marathon Season 2 is the first major content refresh since launch, and Bungie is throwing enough at the wall to suggest they read their Steam reviews. New zone. New shell. New weapons. New progression. New experimental modes. That's five things, which is five more than Season 1's endgame had going for it.
Open Play Week The game is free-to-play from June 2 to June 9 across all platforms. All progression earned during this window carries over permanently if you purchase. PS5 does not require PlayStation Plus. You have no excuse not to try it: except taste.
Dire Marsh after dark. Bungie took the map you know, removed your ability to see anything, and called it a new zone. In fairness, the behavioral shift is substantial: Night Marsh plays closer to survival horror game than extraction shooter. Slower. Quieter. More embarrassing when you die to a flashlight you forgot to turn on.
Warning Light sources reveal your position to nearby enemies. You are choosing between blindness and visibility. Welcome to Night Marsh.
UESC has increased its presence around the Complex building for "reasons unknown." New enemy types also lurk in the dark. The map rotates with Day Marsh every 90 minutes after the first week. Most Dire Marsh contracts work on both.
The Sentinel is Season 2's new Runner Shell and it is built for people who prefer winning through spatial control rather than aim. This is the first shell explicitly designed to punish aggression rather than match it. If you like setting traps and watching other players' mistakes play out in slow motion, this is your shell.

Ability |
Type |
What It Does |
|
Defender System |
Prime |
Deployable device. Destroys incoming grenades and projectiles. Limited charges. Crewmates nearby gain weapon handling buffs. |
|
Snare Mine |
Tactical |
Throwable sticky mine. Fires slowing goo on trigger. Attaches to surfaces. Makes rushing enemies briefly embarrassing. |
|
Prey Tracker |
Trait |
Activates short-range motion tracking HUD revealing moving enemies in a forward cone. Situational awareness in tunnels. |
|
Castle Doctrine |
Passive |
Explosive damage taken triggers resistance increase. SMGs, pistols, and shotguns gain handling when surrounded by enemies. |
Season 1's progression was a faction grind. You ranked up factions, received stats, and the whole thing felt like a chore chart. The Cradle progression system replaces this. You now convert looted gear: weapons, implants, mods: into Energy. Energy buys stat points across six categories. Points can be reset and reallocated at any time during the season.
Factions still exist. They now hold expanded Armory offerings instead of gatekeeping your stats. Bungie decided loot conversion is more interesting than faction homework. Correct decision, late arrival.

Fast-firing. Equippable folding stock mod trades hip-fire spread for improved ADS. Does exactly what SMGs do. |

Fires fully automatic three-round bursts. For people who find semi-auto too slow and feel fine about their wrists. |
Bungie's first experimental PvP mode for Season 2. One crew drops into Night Marsh solo. They have the map to themselves: PvE enemies included, UEC very much present: until a timer expires. Then Rooks (late-joining scavenger players) begin filtering in.
The mode runs June 2–9. Sponsored Survival explained: your crew brings a sponsor kit loadout: low stakes, nothing custom: so Rooks know there's no fully-kitted squad waiting to end them. Everyone's goal is exfil. Whether that's solo, as a gang, or through a temporary truce at the extraction point is entirely up to the social experiment unfolding around you.
Mode Rules 18-minute run timer. One final Xfil spawns when it hits zero. All Rook queues are disabled while this mode runs: every Rook on the server ends up here. This is not optional for them.
A PvE-only mode is planned for the latter half of Season 2: crews completing objectives together across matches. Details remain sparse because Bungie keeps some cards close until they're confident nothing will break catastrophically.
Bungie is giving away free cosmetic bundles at season launch. Each platform gets a themed pack via its respective store. Marathon free-to-play week coincides with these drops, which is either generous timing or calculated marketing. Both can be true.

PlayStation players are the only ones required to hold a paid subscription to access a free bundle. PlayStation has always done this. It has always been annoying.
Available June 2–9, the Marathon Twitch drops offer a weapon sticker, second weapon sticker, profile emblem, profile background, and a Magnum skin: all for watching three cumulative hours of eligible streams. The Bully skin requires gifting a subscription to a participating streamer. Bungie locked the cosmetic behind creator support. Efficient, mildly cynical, completely legal.
