Fellowship Loot 2.0: Complete Season 3 Gearing Guide

Chief Rebel decided that seasons 1 and 2 were too predictable, so they blew up the entire itemization model. This is the Fellowship loot 2.0 overhaul, and yes, it is going to confuse you the first time you open a chest. Get used to it.

The Philosophy Nobody Asked For

In the old system there were exactly two moments of joy: a legendary drop and a lucky gem socket. Everything else was filler. Now every dungeon chest is designed to feel like it could hand you your best-in-slot piece, whether you deserve it or not. This is the entire pitch of the new Fellowship season 3 gearing guide philosophy: excitement on demand, chaos included.

Item Level Finally Stops Lying to You

Item level Fellowship mechanics got simplified in the one place that mattered. A piece of gear keeps the same item level forever, no matter how much you polish it. The blacksmith's old upgrade system is dead. Buried. Replaced. The only way to get a higher item level is to run a harder dungeon, full stop.

  • Contender difficulty one drops item level 30 gear and it will always be item level 30.
  • Champion difficulty one jumps straight to item level 180 because apparently subtlety is dead too.
  • The current test cap sits at item level 315 and yes it can change before launch because nothing is ever finished.

Rarity Decides Everything Else

Every piece you loot from a dungeon chest arrives already colored: green, blue, purple, yellow or the coveted red regal rarity. Common white trash items are not a thing anymore in dungeon rewards, so stop expecting them. The white stat line on any item is fixed and never changes regardless of rarity. What changes is how many bonus stats and modifiers get bolted on top.

RarityBonus StatsItem Modifiers
Green10
Blue11
Purple12
Yellow22
Red (Regal)23

Modifiers can be weapon traits, defensive traits, set bonuses, gem power or the new blessings, and no item can carry more than two modifiers of the same category. So no, you cannot stack three gem powers and call it a day.

Purple rarity is the real threshold. Weapons and necklaces unlock their trait trees at purple, rings and wrist and back items get a guaranteed gem socket at purple, and your necklace becomes the single most important tank item in the entire game once it hits that tier.

Weapons and Necklaces Play by Their Own Rules

A green weapon is just stats with no personality. Hit blue rarity and the weapon ability wakes up, counting as its guaranteed first modifier. Push both weapon and necklace to purple and each one opens a dedicated trait tree at the shrine, with the necklace tree leaning almost entirely defensive.

Tempering Replaced the Blacksmith Grind

The tempering system Fellowship players now rely on quietly replaced upgrading item level. Tempering instead bumps the base stats already printed on the item, one point per temper, and the number of available tempers scales with rarity: four slots on green, climbing to eight on regal gear. Contender pieces only cost gold to temper. Adept and Champion pieces start demanding materials like magic essence. The value here is absurd for the cost, so skipping it is just leaving power on the table.

Crafting, Soul Dust and the Art of Forced RNG

The craftsman now runs on soul dust, arguably the most important resource this season. You buy it with marks of fellowship, earned by clearing dungeons or by purchasing satchels on a twenty four hour cooldown. Soul dust Fellowship tiers each do something different at the craftsman table.

Dust Tier

Effect

Uncommon

Rerolls one modifier slot into a random new one of the same category.

Rare

Same reroll but offers a choice between two possible outcomes.

Epic

Upgrades the item's entire rarity by one tier, keeping existing modifiers intact.

Legendary

Rerolls a specific numbered modifier slot into a fresh random type.

Flooding: The Genuinely Broken Part

Upgrading an item's rarity with epic dust does not just add a random modifier, it duplicates whatever modifier is already sitting on the item, a process the community nicknamed flooding. Flooding item modifiers Fellowship strategy basically means picking a low rarity item with the one trait you love and forcing it to clone itself all the way to regal. Set bonuses are the one exception since two identical set bonuses cannot exist on a single item, so the game just serves you a different random modifier instead.

Bloodstones and Pinnacle Dungeons

Bloodstones Fellowship drops come from the new Pinnacle dungeons and instantly shove any item straight to regal rarity while also applying a fixed number of free tempers depending on the stone's own rarity. A basic bloodstone grants three out of eight tempers, while an ultimate bloodstone maxes the item at eight out of eight. This is the fast lane for gearing alt characters once the main grind bores you into submission.

Building Toward Best in Slot

Chasing a best in slot gear Fellowship setup this season means farming duplicates on purpose, since a perfect item needs the right base type, the right modifiers, and the patience to reroll or flood until three slots align. It is a slower, more deliberate grind than random hoping, and that is by design.

Gems Still Work the Old Way

Gems remain untouched from prior seasons. You can still combine gems into a different random gem, or use budding to duplicate one outright, so this corner of the Fellowship crafting guide is one of the few places you do not need to relearn anything.

Final Word

Loot 2.0 is not simpler, it is just differently complicated, and figuring out the actual best setup early in the season is going to be genuinely difficult for everyone, streamers included. That difficulty is the point. Temper constantly, hoard soul dust, and stop crying about RNG.
