Tarkov Smugglers event 2026 guide before you did. But hey — at least now you know the event exists! Battlestate Games, in their infinite wisdom, dropped the Smugglers event on March 12, 2026, with zero tutorial, minimal patch notes, and the usual cryptic social media image that tells you absolutely nothing. Just vibes. Classic Tarkov experience, honestly. The Smugglers are back — a special enemy type that wears decent gear, shoots at your face, and is somehow still harder to kill than the average Discord admin thinks. They're running around at least 7 maps in groups of 3–4, dropping locked cases and keys like very violent piñatas. Peacekeeper has opinions about all of this, naturally. He's mad at someone named Edward. You're going to kill many people because of it. That's the whole story. Welcome to the Tarkov Smugglers event 2026 guide — the one resource that will stop you from wandering Shoreline for forty minutes asking "where is the camp?"
Before we get into the details, here's every question burning a hole in your skull after spawning into this event unprepared:
All of these are answered below. Scroll down. Or use the table of contents like a civilized PMC.
As with every Tarkov event, Battlestate Games has not announced an official end date for the Tarkov Smugglers event 2026. Based on past events, expect it to last approximately 2–4 weeks. The 2024 Smugglers event ran for a comparable window. Do your quests now before it disappears without warning, like your 200k rouble kit into the backpack of a cheater on Streets.
The Tarkov Smugglers event 2026 is a returning limited-time event that brings new AI enemies, 5 unique quests, special loot containers, and a map-wide change to Reserve. Here's what's new:
Smugglers are a distinct AI enemy type that spawn in groups of 3–4 across most maps. Think of them as Raiders with better fashion sense and worse politics. They're armed with solid gear — typically comparable to Tier 4–5 raiders — and will engage you on sight. They drop Locked cases and Case keys as loot, making them worth hunting even if Peacekeeper's drama doesn't interest you personally.
During the event, airdrops across all eligible maps contain two exclusive items: Sealed weapon cases (5×2 containers packed with weapons, mods, ammo, meds, and stimulants) and Locked cases (2×2 containers that need a Case key and Workbench Level 1 to open). Both cannot be sold on the flea market and are destroyed after unpacking. Chase those airdrops — they're genuinely worth it.
For the duration of the event, all Scav Bosses spawn in every raid on Reserve. That means Glukhar and his entire crew of trigger-happy guards are guaranteed every time you load in. Plan accordingly, or just avoid Reserve. Either is valid.
There are 5 event-exclusive quests forming a narrative chain. They are not required for the Kappa container, but their rewards are legitimately excellent — SIG MCX-SPEAR, FN SCAR-H, PKM, and premium ammo packs. The chain runs: Bulldogs Under The Rug → Accept Delivery → Thirty Pieces of Silver → Restocking Supplies → Root of All Evil.
Smugglers appear on most maps in groups of 3–4. These are the confirmed Escape from Tarkov Smugglers spawn locations for the 2026 event. Ground Zero requires Level 21+. The Lab does not have Smugglers.
For the fastest Smuggler kills, Shoreline and Customs are the most efficient. Shoreline has the bonus of also containing the Smugglers' camp for Bulldogs Under The Rug, letting you complete multiple objectives per raid. On Interchange, Smugglers tend to appear near the power station and inside stores.
Smugglers are equipped similarly to Raiders — expect Tier 4–5 body armor and rifles capable of chewing through your cheap rig. They move in coordinated groups and will flank. Recommended approaches:

This is where the Bulldogs Under The Rug quest guide begins. It's your entry point into the entire Smugglers narrative chain and, honestly, one of the more interesting event quests Battlestate has written in a while.
Peacekeeper's Briefing Balancing the demands of UN partners and local players isn't easy, and Peacekeeper is particularly salty about someone named Edward who keeps undermining him. Airdrops have increased, smuggler activity at the bay has spiked — and Peacekeeper suspects Edward is behind all of it. Your job: kill a smuggler, find their camp on Shoreline, and grab evidence of their connection to Edward. Classic Tuesday in Tarkov.
Objectives
The Smuggler's camp Shoreline location is in the top-right (northeast) corner of the Shoreline map, near the Smuggler's Path extraction point. The camp consists of multiple buildings; you need the northern building specifically for the evidence.
Navigation Note
From the main road spawn, head northeast toward the coastline. The Smuggler's camp sits between the Smuggler's Path extract and the rocky coastline. It's a cluster of structures — easy to miss if you're rushing, impossible to miss if you've died there before.
The evidence of smugglers' ties to Edward (the Counterparty letter) has 3 possible spawns in the northern building of the camp. Only one spawns per raid. It's a Find in Raid item — if you die before extracting, you lose it.
Find in Raid Warning
The Counterparty letter is a quest item that only appears if this quest is active. If you fail to extract with it, you lose it entirely — not just "it goes to your stash." You'll have to find it again next raid. Don't die. (We know. We know.)

The Accept Delivery quest Tarkov is the second quest that required EFT boosting service in the chain and introduces the two core event items: the Locked case and the Case key. Peacekeeper wants to know what Edward is shipping into Tarkov, and naturally that means you're the one going into a firefight to find out.
Accept Delivery
Given by: Peacekeeper
CHAIN POSITION Previous: Bulldogs Under The Rug
Next: Thirty Pieces of Silver
// Peacekeeper's Briefing Edward's letter revealed a drop schedule. Use a red flare to call in the aircraft, grab the cargo before the smugglers do, and bring back anything that looks like a sealed package. Also, the smugglers are using locked containers — so their keys might come in handy. Find a Locked case and its key, hand them both to Peacekeeper.

Obtain and hand over 1 Case key
How to Find the Case Key
The Case key spawn locations Tarkov for the 2026 event are primarily from looting Smugglers themselves — drop rate is decent and this is the most reliable method. They can also potentially be found in airdrops. Kill Smugglers, loot bodies, collect key.
Many players ask how to open Locked cases in Tarkov — the answer is you can't open them in raid. Here's the full process:
Item Notes
Both the Locked case and Case key cannot be listed on the flea market. The Locked case is 2×2 in your inventory. The Case key is a quest item. You can also obtain Locked cases from airdrops on any map except Ground Zero, Factory, The Lab, and The Labyrinth.

This is the grind quest. Peacekeeper reveals that Ragman is somehow involved in Edward's scheme and wants serial numbers from multiple shipments to build his case. You will kill many Smugglers. You will carry many heavy cases. This is Tarkov.
Thirty Pieces of Silver
Given by: Peacekeeper
CHAIN POSITION Previous: Accept Delivery
Next: Restocking Supplies
// Peacekeeper's Briefing He needs serial numbers from multiple NATO shipments to identify who's receiving them. Raid the airdrops, kill the Smugglers, and bring back contraband boxes and sealed weapon cases. Also, make it very clear to the Smugglers that all European trade goes through Peacekeeper.
Objectives
Sealed weapon case locations in Tarkov can be found via airdrops (any map except Ground Zero, Factory, The Lab, Labyrinth) or at these fixed static spawns:
Customs
Reserve
Streets of Tarkov
Lighthouse
💡 Strategy Tip
Chase airdrops aggressively — they're available on all maps during this event and contain both Sealed weapon cases and Locked cases simultaneously. A single airdrop run on a map like Woods or Lighthouse can potentially complete multiple objectives at once for this quest.
Unlocks
Completing this quest unlocks the craft for the Opened case at Workbench Level 1, enabling you to use your Locked cases + Case keys.

The Mechanic enters the chat. Unlike Peacekeeper, he doesn't have geopolitical grievances — he just wants weapons. Specifically, 10 of Edward's locked weapon cases. Because of course he does.
Restocking Supplies
Given by: Mechanic
CHAIN POSITION Previous: Thirty Pieces of Silver
Next: Root of All Evil
// Mechanic's Briefing NATO shipments are dropping into Tarkov and they have nothing to do with Peacekeeper. Mechanic doesn't care about the politics — he just wants the weapon samples in good condition. Bring him 10 locked weapon cases and he'll be happy. Contraband is Peacekeeper's problem.
Objectives
Obtain and hand over 10 locked smugglers' weapon cases (Sealed weapon cases) or get EFT raid boost
Ten sealed weapon cases is a significant ask. Each one weighs 15kg and takes up a 5×2 grid slot. You will not fit all of them in one raid. Plan multiple runs or bring a large backpack and accept the weight penalty. Airdrops are your best friend here — hit them on every map you load into.

The finale. Ragman makes a surprise appearance to admit he got caught up in Edward's scheme and needs your help to get out of it. The Root of All Evil stash location Woods sawmill is the key objective — stash contraband boxes near a green shipping container at the sawmill on Woods.
Root of All Evil
Given by: Ragman
CHAIN POSITION Previous: Restocking Supplies
Next: — (Final Quest)
// Ragman's Confession Edward found Ragman's weak spot and exploited it. Peacekeeper found out. Ragman's plan to escape consequences: help Peacekeeper build his case against Edward by gathering serial-numbered contraband crates that can be pieced back together as proof of Edward's illegal write-offs at NATO bases. Take the crates to the sawmill on Woods, stash them near the green shipping container. Shturman has cleared out, so it should be "safe." (It won't be.)
Stash 10 Contraband boxes near the green shipping container at the sawmill on Woods
Root of All Evil Stash Location — Woods Sawmill
The Root of All Evil stash location Woods sawmill is at the central sawmill area of the Woods map. Here's how to find it:
Sawmill Danger
Even with Shturman "cleared out," the Woods sawmill is a high-traffic PvP zone during events. Expect other players to be checking the same container. Bring decent kit, approach from cover, and don't stand still at the stash point.

Opening Locked Cases
Remember: Locked cases cannot be opened in raid. Take them home, craft the Opened case at Workbench Level 1 using the Case key alongside it (10 seconds), then right-click to unpack. The case is destroyed on opening. Each one contains thermal imaging equipment components and other valuable loot.

The Tarkov Smugglers event 2026 is a content-rich limited-time event that EFT quest boost players who engage systematically. The quest chain spanning Peacekeeper, Mechanic, and Ragman tells a surprisingly cohesive story about NATO corruption, trade wars, and a man named Edward who is very bad at keeping secrets. Kill Smugglers on all seven active maps, find the Smuggler's camp Shoreline location, grab your evidence of smugglers' ties to Edward, hunt the airdrops for Sealed and Locked cases, and haul contraband boxes to the Root of All Evil stash location at the Woods sawmill. Do it before the event ends — because Battlestate will remove it without warning, and you'll be left holding a half-completed quest chain and existential regret. Good luck out there. You'll need it.
There is no official end date announced. Based on the pattern of past Tarkov events (including the 2024 Smugglers event), expect a 2–4 week window. Complete the quest chain as soon as possible — Battlestate can and will end it without advance notice.
Smugglers spawn in groups of 3–4 on Customs, Woods, Shoreline, Interchange, Lighthouse, Streets of Tarkov, and Ground Zero (Level 21+ only). They do not appear on Factory or The Lab. For fastest kills, Shoreline and Customs are the most efficient maps due to Smuggler density and quest objectives being co-located.
Kill one Smuggler on any map, then go to Shoreline and find the Smuggler's camp in the northeast corner near the Smuggler's Path extraction. Enter the northern building and find the Counterparty letter (3 possible spawns: green table by radio equipment, under a book on a cabinet, or inside a container on the right side). Extract successfully with the letter — it's a Find in Raid item and you lose it if you die.
The Smuggler's camp is in the top-right (northeast) area of the Shoreline map, near the Smuggler's Path extraction point. It's a cluster of structures along the coastline. The northern building is where the evidence of smugglers' ties to Edward can be found.
Locked cases cannot be opened in raid. To open one: (1) Extract from raid with the Locked case. (2) Complete the Thirty Pieces of Silver quest to unlock the Opened case craft at Workbench Level 1. (3) Combine the Locked case + Case key at the Workbench (takes 10 seconds). (4) Right-click the result and select "unpack." The case is destroyed and contents are added to your stash. For the Accept Delivery quest, you hand both items directly to Peacekeeper without opening.
Case keys drop primarily from killed Smugglers as loot. They can also appear in airdrops. Since you need Smugglers for multiple quest objectives anyway, killing them for Case keys is very efficient — loot every body.
Sealed weapon cases spawn in airdrops (available on all maps except Ground Zero, Factory, The Lab, and The Labyrinth) and at fixed map locations: Customs marked room (3-story dorms), Customs Warehouse 3, Customs Old Gas Station, Reserve marked rooms (RB-BK, RB-PKPM, RB-VO), Streets of Tarkov marked rooms (abandoned factory + Chekannaya 13), and Lighthouse marked room at the peninsula.
The Root of All Evil stash is at the central sawmill on Woods, next to the single green shipping container in that area. There is only one green container there, making it identifiable. You stash 10 Contraband boxes there — you do not need to extract with them, just use the stash interaction at the container.
Yes. The event is confirmed playable in both PvP and PvE versions of Escape from Tarkov. Smugglers appear in both modes.
No. None of the five event quests (Bulldogs Under The Rug, Accept Delivery, Thirty Pieces of Silver, Restocking Supplies, Root of All Evil) are required for the Kappa container. Complete them for the excellent weapon rewards and XP, not for Kappa progress.
