The Destiny 2 Oblation exotic mission is three chained missions hidden inside the Monument of Triumph update with zero announcement, zero map marker, and zero mercy. Clear all three solo flawless on Legendary in under 30 minutes and you walk away with:
The emblem and triumph are time-gated. Under 30 minutes or they don't exist. Plan accordingly, or don't: your funeral.
The mission does not exist on your map until you do the following. This is by design. Bungie enjoys watching people stumble.
Do not leave early After every boss kill in all three missions: do NOT touch the "End Mission" prompt. Every catalyst and the next mission chain unlocks by staying. Leave once and you restart the unlock chain. You were warned.
Each mission in the Oblation Bloodline walkthrough feeds into the next. They are not separate activities: they are one continuous punishment divided into three acts.
|
Mission |
Key Mechanic |
Boss |
Reward |
|
Oblation: Bloodline |
Cooling pillars, Thrall buff banking, three braziers |
Totality Enforcer (Cabal / Tau'rig) |
Cull's Shadow, Catalyst 1: Soulfire Succor |
|
Oblation: Soulfed |
Soulfire worm throwing (~19s timer), green crystal activation |
Hive boss, worm phase loops |
Catalyst 2 & 3 |
|
Oblation: Immolation |
All prior mechanics combined, platforming gauntlet |
Ir Gohl: shield phases, 30s DPS windows |
Catalyst 4: Soulfire Skewer, Exotic Sparrow |
Legendary difficulty adds punishing modifiers on top of normal. If you're used to dying in normal, congratulations: you'll die faster here.
The opening mission looks like the Pit of Heresy starting area. It is not. Panic, then recover.
This is the mechanic that ends solo runs. Learn it cold before attempting Legendary flawless.
Do not leave After Tau'rig dies: backtrack into the encounter arena, clear all remaining enemies, climb to the high platform, interact with the floating Hive book. Then go to the back-right rune door, equip Weapon of Sorrow, shoot runes in the correct order (check your Cull's Shadow hipfire model: six Hive runes top to bottom; that's your sequence). Door opens. Catalyst 1 drops. Mission 2 unlocks.
The Oblation Soulfed secret mission introduces Soulfire worms. You carry them. They explode if you hold them too long. Charming.
The entire mission is about vertical drops and worm timing. Miss a crystal throw, restart the loop. You will miss it at least once. Accept it.
Shortest mission in the chain, scale-wise. The boss fight erases all goodwill earned by that brevity. Ir Gohl uses a shield mechanic on a 30-second cycle.
Under 30 Minutes Warning The timer for the emblem and "That's A New PB" triumph runs across the full chain. Every wipe costs you. On Legendary, a death ends your flawless run entirely: you must restart from Mission 1. Time management is not optional.
The Cull's Shadow exotic kinetic fusion rifle is the reward. It is, improbably, good. It functions as a hybrid between a fusion rifle and a glaive: special ammo slot, melee-first playstyle, and an aggressive loop that rewards staying in enemies' faces.
|
Perk |
Effect |
|
Blades of Unmaking (Exotic) |
Swift two-way melee combo using frontal blades. The core of the weapon. |
|
Soulburn |
Final blows or rapid melee hits heal you and grant Soulfire Charges. Charges make fired rounds inflict corruption. |
|
Soul Forge |
Corrupted enemies killed coalesce into Soulfire crystals. Destroy crystals with blades for AoE damage. |
The Cull's Shadow weapon perks form a closed loop: melee, corrupt, explode, repeat. In endgame content the loop requires setup. In normal content it makes you feel unreasonably powerful. Four catalysts expand the loop further: each from a separate Oblation mission. None are optional if you intend to use the gun seriously.
For the Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph solo legendary guide, survivability beats DPS. One death means the flawless run is gone.
On the Oblation II emblem requirements: Legendary difficulty must be active, flawless means zero deaths across all three missions, and the full chain must complete in under 30 minutes. All three conditions simultaneously. No partial credit.
Completing the Cull's Shadow all catalysts guide requires playing through all three missions and not leaving after any boss kill. Here is where each drops.
|
Catalyst |
How to Get |
Effect |
|
Soulfire Succor |
Bloodline: interact with the Hive book post-boss, then shoot the rune door sequence |
Destroying soulfire crystals reloads the magazine from reserves and provides Soulfire Charges |
|
Catalyst 2 |
Soulfed mission completion |
Additional survivability in the melee loop |
|
Catalyst 3 |
Soulfed rune puzzle post-boss |
Expanded corruption damage window |
|
Soulfire Skewer |
Immolation final chest (auto-drops, weapon not required in slot) |
Enhanced AoE on crystal detonation |
The Oblation mission catalyst unlock method is identical each time: do not leave after the boss dies, find and interact with a floating Hive book on elevated platforms, then solve the adjacent rune door puzzle. The rune order is shown on the Cull's Shadow weapon model when hipfiring: six symbols, top to bottom.
Sorrow's Harbor, Moon. Under the bridge before the Scarlet Keep entrance. Hidden tunnel, hidden door. Of course.
No. The clock runs across the full chain from first spawn to Ir Gohl's death. Budget every second.
No. Legendary is required for both the flawless triumph and the Oblation II emblem. Normal difficulty gives you nothing here.
Yes. Restart Mission 1. Death is permanent in flawless. It does not care about your excuses.
Triumph-only. No loot attached. Skip them on a timed run, collect later at your leisure.
