The Destiny 2 Distortions quest is handed out by Lodi at the Tower Bazaar after you finish The Tenets. It has four steps. It will take longer than it should because step two involves farming resources while the game refuses to tell you exactly where to go. You are welcome.
Every hour, one destination in the Sol System gets flagged as Distorted. Check your Destinations screen: the active planet glows red with a visible countdown. That is where you need to be. Enemies hit harder. Rewards are better. Public Events actually matter again, which is a minor miracle.
The Strange Matter farming Destiny 2 loop is straightforward and tedious in equal measure. Land on the active Distorted destination. Run Public Events, kill Distorted Enemies, and open every chest you find. Strange Matter drips out of all three. It will take multiple events. Patience is required, or at least the ability to suppress rage.
Note: Heroic Public Events during an active Distortion drop Tier 4 rewards. Regular completions drop Tier 3. Both award Strange Matter. Always go Heroic if you can.

After hitting 50 Strange Matter, the game rewards a Strange Crystal. This triggers the Destiny 2 Strange Crystal location objective: a new marker called Strange Signal appears on your map. The waypoint is automatic. You do not need to memorize a fixed spot because there is no fixed spot.
Open your Destinations tab. Look at the current map for the bubble marker labelled Strange Signal. Track it. Follow the white directional arrow on your HUD. The Distortions quest Strange Signal spawns dynamically depending on which destination is active when your Crystal dropped, so stop looking for a YouTube coordinate and start looking at your own map.
When you arrive at the general area, search for the Monument of Triumph DLC icon in the environment: it marks the actual entrance to the distorted zone. Ignore every other portal you see. Seriously. Players waste ten minutes walking into random holes that have nothing to do with the objective.
The #1 mistake: entering unrelated portals near the signal. If the portal is not flagged by the quest marker, it is not the right one. Move on.
Enter the distorted zone. The how to complete Distortions quest Destiny 2 process inside is: clear adds, damage boss, collect chest. The encounter is designed to be soloable. It is not an endgame activity. Treat it accordingly.
The Shield of Distorted boss fight is not a raid encounter. It is a patrol-tier boss that can be killed solo by anyone who owns a sniper rifle and basic impulse control. Long-range weapons are optimal: you can damage it freely while staying out of the annoying attack patterns.
Wipe the room first. Every add you leave alive is one more interruption during the boss phase. Once the arena is clean, the Monument of Triumph boss encounter becomes a straightforward damage loop: shoot, dodge, shoot again. There are no mechanics that require a fireteam. Solo clears are the norm.
The Distortions loot and rewards Destiny 2 system has one endpoint: the chest at the end of the boss encounter. That chest is the reason you are here. Completing the event also awards standard Monument of Triumph activity drops. Distortion-exclusive weapons may only drop during active Distortion windows, which is Bungie's way of saying you should be doing this regularly.

Yes. The Destiny 2 Distortions farming tips are simple: keep collecting Dark Matter after the first clear, earn more Strange Crystals, repeat the boss encounter. Drop rates and hard caps are still being verified by the community, but the activity is confirmed repeatable. Use the Attunement system to target a specific Distortion weapon: attune it, run the loop, do not switch mid-session.
The fastest route through each run: immediately set Strange Signal as your active waypoint the moment the Crystal drops, follow the arrow without detours, find the DLC icon on arrival, do not enter wrong portals. Most time is lost to wandering, not the encounter itself.
It is dynamic. Open your map, find the Strange Signal bubble, track it, and follow the white arrow. No fixed coordinates exist.
Run Heroic Public Events on the active Distorted destination. Kill Distorted Enemies and open chests in the same session.
Yes. Use a sniper rifle, clear adds first, and maintain distance. It is a patrol-tier encounter, not endgame.
Every hour, a new destination becomes active. Check the Destinations screen for the red marker and the timer.
Yes. Distortion-specific weapon drops only appear while the Distortion window is active on a destination.
