Modern Warfare 4's Kill Block never plays the same twice. 500+ Slab combinations, new Gunfight modes, zero map memorization allowed.

Infinity Ward got bored of building maps, so they built a map generator instead. Modern Warfare 4 Kill Block is the result: a multiplayer arena that reshuffles itself before every match, so your muscle memory is worthless the moment you spawn.
The Kill Block multiplayer mode takes place in the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, a name only a marketing department could love. Instead of one fixed layout, the map is built from modular chunks called Slabs. Three Slabs snap together into a Combo. Shuffle the Slabs, get a new map. Simple, and mildly cruel to anyone who memorizes angles for a living.
Each match uses two outer End Slabs and one Central Slab wedged between them. Teams spawn in the End Slabs and fight their way toward the Central Slab, though nothing stops you from exploring the whole footprint. The Kill Block Slabs were designed to nest with each other interchangeably, which is the whole trick behind the randomization.
| Component | Role | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| End Slab (x2) | Spawn zones | Bookend the map, teams start here |
| Central Slab | Main fight zone | Where the actual dying happens |
| Combo | Full map | Three Slabs combined, one match |
Combined footprint of a Combo lands at roughly the size of the Shoot House size map from 2019's Modern Warfare, so at least the scale is familiar even when the layout isn't.
Kill Block launches with over 500 possible map configurations, and some Slabs are built from classic Modern Warfare locations, including a section inspired by Crash. Memorizing the map is no longer a strategy, it's a hobby with no payoff.
Nothing exotic here yet. Infinity Ward is easing the feature in through two formats.
The West Bridge Training Facility also throws in simulated weather like mist and snow flurries, because static sightlines were apparently not annoying enough on their own. Infinity Ward frames this as an adaptive live fire environment, which is a fancy way of saying you will never fully learn this map and neither will anyone else.

Kill Block was dreamed up by Multiplayer Creative Director Geoff Smith after visiting the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, which uses a rotating slab system to switch between a football pitch and a concert venue. Somebody looked at a stadium floor and thought, this should be a war zone. Naturally, it was.
Kill Block is either the smartest multiplayer idea Infinity Ward has shipped in years or a mercy killing for competitive map mastery, and it will genuinely depend on who you ask. Casuals get infinite novelty. Competitive players lose the one thing they actually enjoyed: knowing exactly where you were going to shoot them from. Among the broader push in Infinity Ward multiplayer maps design, this is easily the most disruptive swing in a decade, for better or for the sanity of ranked players, worse.
Fanatics Fest attendees in New York get hands on time with the mode before launch, a small mercy for anyone who wants to judge this before October instead of after.
