Apex Legends Heirlooms: Pity System, Glitches & Season 29
Axle just dropped in Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked and she's already rewriting the movement meta. Learn her Drift, Nitro Gate, and Kickstart befo
Apex Legends Season 29 Axle is a Skirmisher from Salvo: the same charm-free warzone that produced Fuse and Mad Maggie. She won her spot in the Apex Games by dominating a high-stakes bike race, which should tell you exactly the kind of person she is. She was given an invitation by Kuben Blisk himself, presumably because he sensed a kindred spirit who would absolutely trample her own teammates if the podium required it.
She is, as narrative lead Ashley Reed puts it, someone for whom "winning is the most important thing." Not teamwork. Not sportsmanship. Winning. Refreshing, honestly, from a character who could have easily been written as a plucky underdog with a tragic backstory and a heart of gold. She has the tragic backstory. She skipped the heart of gold.
Mechanically, Axle was born from Respawn's post-Valkyrie assessment of movement in competitive play. After two years of Valk dominating the Apex Legends Overclocked meta, the developers decided the answer to vertical movement dominance was to weaponize the ground. Axle's whole identity is "lateral control at speed": and she does it better than everyone else on the roster without breaking a sweat. You can suffer, or you can just get a Apex Legends boost for this one.
Axle slides faster and with greater lateral control than any other Legend. Her slides accelerate beyond normal momentum, and she can change direction mid-slide in ways that make tracking her with a sniper a small exercise in frustration. The floor is her domain. Yours is the grave.
Deploys a speed gate that launches anyone stepping through it into a boosted, high-velocity slide with enhanced lateral control lasting up to five seconds. Team-agnostic. Read that again. Your enemies can use it. Place it poorly and congratulations: you've personally upgraded the push on your own position.
Fires an enemy-seeking drone that travels low to the ground, scans for targets in a wide field of view, then thumps the first one it finds into the air: dealing minimal damage but stunning them and leaving them open for follow-up. Flies directly through Gibraltar's dome. He doesn't get to be comfortable.
Level 3 Upgrade: Sliding Shooter Allows Axle to fire up to half a magazine from inventory while actively sliding: bypassing the reload animation entirely during a push. If you reach Level 3 and haven't equipped this, hand your controller to someone who will.
The Nitro Gate is the most consequential decision you will make every engagement. Because it is team-agnostic: meaning enemies slide through it just as happily as your squad: Axle Nitro Gate placement tips are not a matter of minor optimization. They are the difference between a clean three-knock fight and accidentally turbocharging three opponents directly into your face.
Place gates to funnel your squad into a fight, not across open ground where the enemy can intercept. Use them on angles that require a commitment to enter: around corners, through doors, into flanks. A good Axle player thinks two slides ahead. A bad one gifts the lobby a theme park ride.
Most players treat sliding as a movement tool between engagements. Axle treats it as the engagement. With the Axle Drift passive ability, she is substantially harder to track at speed than Octane: Octane goes fast in a straight line; Axle goes fast in whatever direction she decides mid-slide. Practice changing slide direction aggressively on targets. The passive rewards players who already slide frequently and punishes those who only crouch behind rocks and wonder why they're not winning.
The drone travels in a straight line at low altitude, which means terrain can block it. Use it to open a fight by destabilizing one enemy before your squad commits. Use it to deny an enemy push by sending the drone into the approach before they reach you. Use it against Gibraltar specifically: it punches through his dome and the stun in the air removes his greatest advantage, which is the smug certainty that his bubble makes him untouchable.

Axle belongs in squads for a Apex Legends rank progression that want to fight constantly and punish hesitation. She is not a character for teams that prefer passive zone play, though she can certainly rotate faster than any passive-zone player deserves. The best team comp for Axle Season 29 pairs her gate-and-drone toolkit with legends who can capitalize on the chaos she creates.

Functional but ironic. Axle's ultimate hard-counters Gibraltar; running them together means your own teammate can accidentally invalidate your dome. Tread carefully. |

Yes, she has weaknesses, exactly if you're out of Apex Legends account service. Shocking, given that Respawn apparently forgot to include a single liability in her original design, but here we are.

The Season 29 legend meta changes push Vantage and Conduit up as active combat options rather than utility picks, while Alter takes nerfs to her Void Passage cooldown: meaning your escape artist teammates can no longer vacate a bad fight with quite the same frequency. Ash gets minor passive buffs that won't push her back to dominance. The net result: the entire patch reinforces aggressive, mobile team compositions.
In ranked play, Axle ranked tips Apex Legends revolve around map knowledge above everything else. A good Axle is not someone who slides frequently: it's someone who knows where their slide is going to end and what angle they'll have when it does. The passive rewards this preparation. The tactical punishes the lack of it.
Week-One Warning Expect ranked meta to be completely unrecognizable by week four as players learn how to abuse, counter, and normalize Axle's abilities. Early season is a testing ground. Do not assume your current tier list is stable. Or just go and get Apex Legends badge service from us!

Different tool. Octane boosts vertically and in straight lines; Axle dominates lateral ground movement and benefits her team through gates and displacement.
Yes. The gate is fully team-agnostic. Misplace it in open terrain and you have personally funded the enemy push. Placement discipline is non-optional.
Yes. The drone enters the dome and detonates inside it, launching Gibraltar or anyone sheltering within. His bubble is not a sanctuary from Axle.
A Level 3 upgrade allowing Axle to fire up to half a magazine while actively sliding, bypassing reload animation entirely. Take it over the alternative without hesitation.
Technically. Practically, her entire kit punishes static play. Running her in a defensive comp is a waste of her passive, her gate, and your time.
