WoW Midnight Retribution Paladin BiS Guide
12.0.5 hit every class. 12.0.7 didn't. Here's exactly where tanks, healers, and DPS stand for M+, raid, and PvP in WoW Midnight Season 1: updated tier
So, it’s time to create another World of Warcraft 12.0.7 class tier list. This time, there isn’t much to go on because most class tuning happened back in 12.0.5, and only a few minor activities have shifted the balance. On the other hand… there’s Rotmire and new gear. So, who knows? Maybe—just maybe—some of these changes will rewrite the rules of the tier list!
Let's be honest about one thing upfront: WoW Midnight best DPS searches are spiking again because 12.0.5 launched like a house fire and Blizzard spent two weeks apologising while players screamed about bugs. The May 5th tuning pass was the biggest in recent memory: every single class touched. What follows is what the meta actually looks like after the smoke cleared, and what 12.0.7 does (or, rather, barely does) on top of that.
The gap between raid and M+ performance has never been wider in Midnight. Specs that feel mid on a target dummy become oppressive in chained pulls. The current Mythic+ best specs 2026 list rewards immediate AoE, mobility, and not dying when your healer is also trying to DPS.

Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Vengeance DH |
Plug-and-play. Great utility, mobility, immediate value. Benefits from Aug synergy. |
|
S |
Guardian Druid |
Still highest tank DPS post-nerf. Strong M+ but brings nothing unique if you already have a Druid. |
|
A |
Blood DK |
Consistent, self-sufficient, buffs helped hero talents. Slightly less mobile than top two. |
|
A |
Protection Paladin |
Armor buff helps. Solid utility, good for progression keys. |
|
B |
Protection Warrior |
Benefited from tuning. Still less flexible than top picks. |
|
C |
Brewmaster Monk |
Nerfed in both survivability and damage. Fell off the charts week 4. |
The best healer Midnight patch conversation keeps coming back to the same two answers: Mistweaver Monk and Restoration Shaman. Holy Paladin and Resto Shaman got 8-15% buffs in 12.0.5 and are now competitive enough to not be an embarrassment. Discipline Priest's Atonement was deliberately nerfed in 20-player scenarios while staying useful in 5-mans.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Mistweaver Monk |
HPS-to-mana ratio unmatched. Ring of Peace radius buffed in Midnight. Fistweaving damage relevant. |
|
S |
Restoration Shaman |
Healing Wave +10% PvE, Riptide +15% PvP. Best aggressive sustain pick. Totemic vs Stormbringer gap tightened. |
|
A |
Preservation Evoker |
Strong throughput, good mobility for M+. Slightly less utility than top two. |
|
A |
Restoration Druid |
3% healing nerf from 12.0.5. Still comfortable in timed keys. Mana issues in extended pulls. |
|
B |
Discipline Priest |
Atonement decays faster beyond 5 targets. Great in 5-man M+. Overcrowded in large groups. |
|
B |
Holy Paladin |
Eternal Flame, Word of Glory, Light of Dawn all +15%. Mana regen cost reduced in PvP. More alive than last month. |
|
C |
Holy Priest |
+6% healing helps. Still behind in M+ utility and mobility. |
Raids and keys reward different things entirely. In keys, the WoW Midnight tier list for DPS is shaped almost entirely by how fast your AoE hits and whether you can avoid getting one-shot doing it. Augmentation Evoker's Ebon Might makes everyone near it stronger: it belongs in every serious group regardless of its "personal" damage number, which is a meaningless metric for that spec.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Augmentation Evoker |
-5% damage from 12.0.5, bug fixes corrected. Still mandatory. Makes everyone else's number bigger. |
|
S |
Devourer DH |
-3% overall, Voidfall Meteor -12%. Still S. Content design favours it heavily. |
|
S |
Demonology Warlock |
No nerfs. Consistent AoE + cleave. Fits M+ cooldown pacing perfectly. |
|
A |
Unholy DK |
Nerfed hard (Rider of Apocalypse, Graveyard, Magus all cut). Dropped from S. Still solid. |
|
A |
Retribution Paladin |
Stable. No changes in 12.0.5 tuning pass. Consistent priority damage. |
|
A |
Beast Mastery Hunter |
+4% PvE. Stable performer, no mechanical complexity. Reliable filler pick. |
|
A |
Marksmanship Hunter |
Rapid Fire +20%, Explosive Shot +100%, Steady Shot +100%. Massive buff. High ceiling now. |
|
A |
Subtlety Rogue |
+7% PvE. Shadow Dance chains in M+ are devastating. Up two spots. |
|
B |
Outlaw Rogue |
+5% PvE. Cloud Cover nerfed for both PvE and PvP. Stabilised. |
|
B |
Frost DK |
+5% PvE. Finally not embarrassing. Shatter bug fix slightly offset by nerf. |
|
B |
Enhancement Shaman |
+5% all abilities, +10% auto. Stormbringer buffed significantly. Watch this space. |
|
B |
Affliction Warlock |
Unstable Affliction +20%, Corruption +20%, Agony +10%. Relevant again in sustained fights. |
|
B |
Fury Warrior |
+5% overall, Execute +20%, Raging Blow +20%, Slayer gains big. Compensates for Deep Wounds bug fix. |
|
C |
Arms Warrior |
Buffed. Was doing less damage than Guardian Druid tanks. Now merely mediocre. |
|
C |
Frost Mage |
Shatter -6% primary target. Bug fix giveth, nerf taketh. Grabbed a key spot from Brewmaster regardless. |
Voidspire Mythic is where the Midnight raid tier list actually diverges from M+. Single-target damage, fight-specific burst alignment, and raid-wide utility matter here. The world-first race ran on Mistweaver, Discipline, and Preservation: 12.0.5 took the top healers down 5% and lifted Holy Paladin, Resto Shaman, and Holy Priest up 8%, which is more compression than genuine rebalancing.
Every tank is defensively viable in raid. The differentiation is pure damage output and utility. Guardian Druid is the highest DPS tank post-nerf, which is either impressive or tells you something about how broken it was before. Protection Paladin's armor buff makes it more comfortable on heavy physical-damage fights.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Guardian Druid |
Highest tank DPS even post-nerf. Bring a second Druid and lose utility overlap. |
|
A |
Blood DK |
Strong hero talent buffs. Self-sufficient. Solid damage profile for raid. |
|
A |
Protection Paladin |
Armor buffed. Excellent utility, Aura, Blessing coverage for raid. |
|
B |
Vengeance DH |
Great M+ tank, slightly less specialised utility in pure raid context. |
|
B |
Protection Warrior |
Mountain Thane buffs help. Still not displacing top picks. |
|
C |
Brewmaster Monk |
Same survivability nerfs apply. Bring it if you love pain. |
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Mistweaver Monk |
Nerfed ~5% post-world first. Still top. Cocoon is a cheat code on certain Voidspire mechanics. |
|
S |
Discipline Priest |
Atonement transfer up to 30% but decay sharpened beyond 5 targets. Strong 10-man, weaker 20-man. |
|
A |
Preservation Evoker |
Dominated world first race alongside Disc. Tuned down slightly. Still elite. |
|
A |
Restoration Druid |
-3% overall healing. HoT coverage strong on spread damage. Mana management required. |
|
B |
Restoration Shaman |
Buffed 8% effectively. Raid cooldowns valuable. Better than it looks on paper now. |
|
B |
Holy Paladin |
All throughput spells +15%. Mana regen improved PvP only. PvE still tight on mana. Usable. |
|
C |
Holy Priest |
+6%. Still the least impactful healer in organised Mythic content. |
This is a WoW 12.0.5 tuning changes story. Unholy DK was overperforming after bugfixes and got hammered. Marksmanship got buffed harder than anyone expected. Affliction Warlock went from afk to dangerous. Enhancement Shaman is on watch: Blizzard said they're watching the Thorim's Invocation bug fix results "carefully", which means another tuning pass is possible.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Retribution Paladin |
No changes. Consistent single-target and burst. The "safe" pick for every roster. |
|
S |
Devourer DH |
-3% overall doesn't remove it from S in raid. Burst cleave still exceptional. |
|
S |
Augmentation Evoker |
Personal damage nerf doesn't matter. Group amplification is the point. |
|
A |
Demonology Warlock |
No nerfs. Strong ST and cleave cycle. Comfortable in Voidspire. |
|
A |
Marksmanship Hunter |
Explosive Shot doubled. Rapid Fire +20%. Went from borderline to genuinely strong. |
|
A |
Affliction Warlock |
Unstable Affliction +20%, Corruption +20%. Top choice for sustained fight-length encounters. |
|
B |
Unholy DK |
Multiple 15-25% ability nerfs. San'layn buffed partially. Fell from S. Solid A-/B+ range. |
|
B |
Enhancement Shaman |
+5% abilities, Stormbringer notably stronger. Bug fix impact unclear: tuning may follow. |
|
B |
Subtlety Rogue |
+7%. Better in M+ than raid but competitive. |
|
B |
Fury Warrior |
Deep Wounds bug fix compensated. Slayer build specifically gained a lot. |
Welcome to what analysts are calling a "Wizard Season." WoW PvP tier list Season 1 is dominated by specs that deliver burst inside 4-second windows. If you are not prepared to press all of your buttons simultaneously, you will die before your opponent's buttons are off cooldown. Apex Talent-extended CC durations mean a competent Subtlety Rogue can chain-lock targets in ways previously unavailable. The May 5th PvP hotfix added a 5% Stamina buff via Gladiator's Distinction to slow kills slightly. It helped a little. The dying still happens fast.
PvP Gear in Midnight Season 1: Scales to max ilvl automatically in PvP combat. Conquest sits at ilvl 289. Gladiator cutoff: 2300.
Tanks are slotted into BG Blitz as forced roles. This is not a debate about who does more damage.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Guardian Druid |
Premier flag carrier. Shifts out of slows in Bear Form. Added magic resist while holding objectives in 12.0.5. Mage-peels don't function against it. |
|
A |
Protection Paladin |
Best node defender. Blinding Light, Hammer of Justice, Avenger's Shield chains stall multiple enemies. Armor buff helps. |
|
A |
Blood DK |
Creates 7v7s by kidnapping healers. Unique disruption tool in rated battlegrounds. |
|
B |
Vengeance DH |
Mobility for cross-map pressure. Less objective utility than top two. |
|
B |
Protection Warrior |
Templar: Divine Exaction nerfed in PvP (2 additional Divine Toll at 75%, was 150%). Less threatening. |
|
C |
Brewmaster Monk |
-15% all damage in PvP. The least impactful tank. You already know. |
The best class WoW Midnight 2026 for PvP healing is whichever one makes your partner not die before the kill window. That is currently Mistweaver Monk, with Restoration Shaman as the aggressive sustain alternative for teams that want to survive extended dampening.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Mistweaver Monk |
Highest HPS-to-mana ratio. Cocoon trivialises coordinated kill windows. Ring of Peace radius buffed in Midnight. Most picked in Rated BG Blitz. |
|
S |
Restoration Shaman |
Healing Wave +10% PvP, Riptide +15% PvP from 12.0.5. Top pick for dampening games. Aggressive sustained pressure. |
|
A |
Restoration Druid |
Starsurge +18% PvP (Balance-borrowed kit in some comps). HoT spread still hard to kill through. |
|
A |
Holy Paladin |
Mana regen cost reduced from 45% to 35% in PvP. Throughput buffs help. More playable than in 12.0.5 launch. |
|
B |
Discipline Priest |
Private auras hit their toolkit hard. Shadow Word: Madness +25% and Mind Blast +20% make Shadow arguably stronger in PvP. |
|
C |
Holy Priest |
Healing buff applies PvE only. PvP survivability remains the issue. |
Arena 3v3, Solo Shuffle, BG Blitz. The top of this list is not particularly controversial. Retribution Paladin has the highest burst with the best utility kit. Frost Mage controls space and kills on demand. Assassination Rogue and Subtlety Rogue both benefit from extended Shadow Dance and CC chains. This is your WoW Midnight best DPS for the ladder specifically: not simulation values.
|
Tier |
Spec |
Note |
|
S |
Retribution Paladin |
Highest burst + best utility. Backbone of top-rated comps. No changes in 12.0.5 because it didn't need them. |
|
S |
Frost Mage |
Frozen Orb denies space. Poly stops flag pickups. Controls the geometry of every fight. Ray of Frost -10% PvP tuned down. |
|
S |
Assassination Rogue |
Top arena pick. Sustained kill pressure. Benefits from CC chain extensions. |
|
A |
Subtlety Rogue |
Shadow Dance chain-locks targets. +7% PvE (applies baseline). Elevated by extended CC duration talents. |
|
A |
Devourer DH |
Voidsurge -20% PvP. Still dominant in BG Blitz mid-range lanes. |
|
A |
Windwalker Monk |
Climbs significantly vs PvE ranking. Mobility and CC profile excellent in current meta. |
|
A |
Shadow Priest |
Shadow Word: Madness +25%, Mind Blast +20% PvP. Single-target burst now competitive. Moved up. |
|
A |
Destruction Warlock |
+5% all PvP damage. Climbs from mid-PvE to A-tier PvP. Solid sustained pressure. |
|
A |
Marksmanship Hunter |
Black Arrow +11% PvP, overall +5% PvP (corrects over-nerf). Back to viable after being hammered pre-patch. |
|
B |
Balance Druid |
Starsurge +18% PvP. Layer control via mushrooms and roots. Flexible, reliable RBG pick. |
|
B |
Affliction Warlock |
RBG meta pick. Drain Soul on flag carrier effectively untouchable. Team wants a Lock for sustained pressure. |
|
B |
Elemental Shaman |
Totems plant on flags. Chain Heal covers clusters. Better than perception suggests. |
|
B |
Arcane Mage |
Arcane Blast +15%, Arcane Missiles +15% PvP. Blizzard admitted it was behind. Now playable. |
|
C |
Fire Mage |
Pyroblast -6%, Fireball +80% (anti-burst intent). Sunfury Combustion windows specifically nerfed. Playable but Combustion carries less threat. |
|
C |
Beast Mastery Hunter |
+4% PvE but -3% PvP. The giveth-and-taketh philosophy in action. |
|
C |
Outlaw Rogue |
Between the Eyes -15% PvP. Cloud Cover reduced for both modes. Was overtuned, now capped. |

There are none. Blizzard confirmed via PTR silence and community posts that meaningful class reworks are a 12.1 concern, not a .07 patch event.
Vengeance DH and Guardian Druid. Vengeance is more plug-and-play; Guardian still leads tank DPS despite the 12.0.5 nerfs.
Substantially. Five percent across-the-board, auto-attack up ten percent, Stormbringer buffed hard. Blizzard is watching bug-fix fallout carefully before acting further.
It dropped from S to high-A. Rider of Apocalypse abilities hit for twenty-five percent less, Graveyard and Magus down fifteen. Still competitive, not dominant.
