Abyss Anglers patch 12.0.5 is Blizzard's newest outdoor activity, arriving with the Lingering Shadows update on April 21, 2026. You put on a diving suit that looks suspiciously like something an extremely underfunded marine biologist would wear, jump off a dock into the waters off northeastern Zul'Aman, and shoot fish with a harpoon until your oxygen runs out or your will to live does. Whichever comes first.
In practice, it is a surprisingly layered system. You earn Angler Pearls by harpooning fish, swimming through schools, fishing from glowing bubbles, and looting relics off the seafloor. Those pearls buy upgrades that let you stay underwater longer, move faster, and access deeper zones with rarer fish. The loop is the classic Blizzard "do the thing to unlock the ability to do the thing harder" design philosophy. It works, begrudgingly. Quick note: There is no weekly limit on dives. Blizzard let you off the leash entirely on this one. Whether that is a gift or a curse is a matter of your own psychology.
You will find Depthdiver Jeju on a small island off the northeastern coast of Zul'Aman, sitting east of the Temple of Jan'Alai. He has a purple quest marker, because Blizzard apparently decided the ambient dread of the mist-shrouded landmass looming directly behind him was not sufficient warning. Walk up. Accept the quest. Try not to think about the mist.

The introductory quest is mandatory and serves as a tutorial. It tasks you with catching at least three fish and locating one artifact on the seafloor. Both are trivially achievable. The achievement you actually care about: surviving your first dive without running out of oxygen: is entirely optional and considerably less trivial on your first attempt.
Depthdiver Tu'nakit stands next to Jeju on the same dock and handles the cosmetic rewards side of the operation. Think of Jeju as the upgrade vending machine and Tu'nakit as the gift shop at the end of a theme park: the one you are forced to walk through before you can leave.

Once submerged, you operate on a dedicated action bar with a blue Oxygen meter ticking down from the moment your boots hit water. This is the Abyss Anglers diving mechanics loop in miniature: every action you take earns points, and you have exactly as much time as your oxygen allows to earn them. Fish have Scales, which must be removed one harpoon shot at a time before you can actually catch them. A Common fish might have one or two Scales. A Mythic fish can have up to 99. Yes, 99. That number is real, it is not a typo, and whoever approved it has clearly never been personally inconvenienced by arithmetic. The practical upshot is that other players can also hit the same fish, and their progress carries over between dives, meaning the community collectively sandpapers these armored behemoths down over time. Refreshingly cooperative for a game whose player base spends most of its time arguing in trade chat.
Important: If you end a dive without catching a single fish, you receive zero Angler Pearls regardless of how safely you surfaced. Spending an entire dive methodically chipping Scales off someone else's Mythic is not pointless, but it is its own special category of thankless labor.

Everything you do underwater is worth something. How much varies enormously based on rarity, which is the game's polite way of saying "you will spend most of your time catching things worth 50 points and fantasizing about the ones worth 1,000." Abyss Bubbles are scattered across the seafloor and allow you to fish from them for a flat 25 points plus whatever rarity bonus applies to what you pull up. They are the WoW Midnight underwater activity equivalent of a participation trophy that occasionally turns into something genuinely useful. Relics have glowing purple outlines on the floor: if you cannot find one, it has likely already been looted by someone else. This will happen exactly as often as you do not want it to.

Upgrades are purchased from Depthdiver Jeju using Angler Pearls, and most require specific achievements to unlock before you can spend anything on them. There is no prescribed upgrade order. You buy what you can, when you can, and the game presents this as freedom rather than a prerequisite labyrinth.
The Abyss Anglers diving suit upgrade guide can be summarized simply: oxygen first, fins second, and Reinforced Joints before anything deeper. Priority is always oxygen capacity, because running out of air is the only way the game actively penalizes you beyond your own frustration.

Beyond the suit itself, Jeju also sells objective-unlocking items: nets for catching small creatures, charms and bait that improve your Bubble fishing results, and various other minor upgrades. These are achievement-gated as well, and if you are wondering whether you will unlock them all before you get bored: statistically, no, you will not.
Depthdiver Tu'nakit sells the cosmetics, housing decor, and the one pet that will make collectors temporarily forget how many times they drowned trying to afford it. Every item below is purchased with Angler Pearls. Some require achievements. Some do not. The game will tell you which is which at the exact moment you cannot afford it.
The Abyss Anglers cosmetics and housing decor rewards available from Tu'nakit represent the bulk of what most players will grind toward. Notably, Fused Vitality: a crafting reagent: is capped at 3 purchases per character per week, which is the game's way of reminding you that nothing good can exist without a restriction attached to it.
