WoW Patch 12.1: Altar of Fangs & Venomous Abyss Guide
WoW Midnight patch 12.0.7 hid a Feat of Strength in Val. Dodge 100 lightning strikes in a row during Thunder Pains. No reward. Totally worth it. Guide
A Celestial Pain is a hidden Feat of Strength added in Patch 12.0.7 as part of WoW Midnight's first major content update. It does not grant points. It does not grant a mount. Blizzard won't even show unearned Feats in your achievement interface, so nobody will know you don't have it: until now that you're reading this.
The requirement: evade 100 consecutive lightning strikes in the Val Showdown Zone during the Thunder Pains bonus objective. One failure resets your streak to zero. Yes, all hundred. In a row. The achievement is account-wide, which is the only mercy Blizzard extends.
Note: The orb only appears while the Thunder Pains event is active. If you don't see it, the zone rotation isn't in your favor. Come back next week like the rest of us.
Once the bonus objective is active, lightning strikes begin targeting your character at regular intervals. Each strike telegraphs itself with a pulsing animation. When you see it, press the extra action button: the one that appears automatically on your screen during the event. That's the entire mechanic.
The timing is consistent and forgiving enough that even players who lost their reflexes to years of auto-attack should manage it. The challenge isn't difficulty. It's duration.

Stand somewhere you won't be knocked off or aggroed. Do not let another player pull enemies through you mid-dodge. Do not alt-tab. The hidden achievement WoW community has lost streaks at 97 to Discord notifications: learn from their suffering.
Critical: Any single missed press resets the entire counter. The game tracks this as a kill credit under NPC ID 265136: one hundred dodges, no exceptions.
The pulsing animation is your only cue. There is no audio alert worth relying on. Watch the visual, press the button, repeat until your hand cramps and the achievement pops. Total runtime sits at 7 to 8 minutes: roughly the length of a mediocre loading screen in 2006.
Patch 12.0.7, released June 16, 2026, introduced the Val and Naigtal Showdown Zones: rotating weekly invasion points with World Bosses, Heroic World Tier content, and a parade of new achievements. Val specifically is described as a frozen wasteland, which tracks aesthetically with standing in a storm getting struck by lightning for sport.
The Midnight Showdown Zone rewards from these areas include Field Accolades, Relic Coffer Key Fragments, Crests, housing decor, and transmog. A Celestial Pain offers none of those things. It is purely a Feat of Strength: a notch in your achievement armory for activities that reward the kind of person who alphabetizes their reagent bags.
Related Feats in 12.0.7: Radiant Singer, Mind-Seeker, You Conduit!, Echoes of Midnight. All hidden. All discovered through the same obsessive community that found this one.
Heroic World Tier unlocks additional achievements in Val, including Heroic Climate Strange: Val: dissipate 5 storms by completing bonus objectives on Heroic difficulty. Thunder Pains counts. So you can chase the Feat of Strength Patch 12.0.7 and Heroic progress simultaneously, if you enjoy efficiency almost as much as suffering.
