SWTOR Legacy Reborn Guide – Update 7.9 Complete

The SWTOR Legacy of the Sith expansion started in 2022. Its conclusion: Update 7.9, "Legacy Reborn": landed on June 2, 2026. That's four years of dangling plot threads, one SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike, and a fanbase that spent most of that time arguing on Reddit whether the game was dying. The verdict on the dying part remains professionally inconclusive.

Legacy Reborn is the finale of the 7.0 era. Everything converges on Khar Shian, a Sith moon from Star Wars Legends lore that the developers have decided deserves a second life. Darth Jadus stole a holocron, Darth Nul's machine is back online, and Heta Kol's Hidden Chain is running the construction crew. Classic SWTOR.

The SWTOR 7.9 story is a solo experience. No group finder, no minimum gear score, no excuses. If you completed the prior chapters, your mission log already has the breadcrumb. Click it. Watch cutscenes. Try not to yell at your screen.

How to Unlock Legacy Reborn

The game will not simply hand you this content because you bought a subscription once in 2019. There are actual prerequisites, listed below in the order the developers expect you to care about them.

Hard Requirements

  • Character at Level 80 (you'll hit this naturally, relax)
  • Active or past subscription: at least one month between February 2022 and now
  • Completed Onslaught main story through "Whispers in the Force"
  • Completed Legacy of the Sith (7.0 through 7.8.1)
  • Specifically: Galactic Threads (Update 7.8) and Master's Enigma (Update 7.8.1)

Story Catchup

Use the Eras menu in-game. It shows exactly where each character stands. A checkmark means done. A "Missions" button means you have work to do. This is not complicated.

Legacy Reborn: Khar Shian finale

The whole point

Daily missions on Manaan, Ruhnuk, Voss, and Ord Mantell are not required to advance the plot. You can ignore them entirely without consequence. This is the most merciful design decision in this game's recent history.

The Story, Without Ruining It

The Khar Shian story missions open on a straightforward premise: everything is on fire and it is partly your fault for trusting whoever the traitorous ally turns out to be. Darth Jadus has the holocron. Heta Kol and the Hidden Chain have reconstructed Darth Nul's machine: the one from the Disorder trailer, if you've been paying attention. Malgus is en route. So is Shae Vizla. Everyone wants something different and none of them are coordinating.

The mission involves multiple perspectives. At certain points, you play as specific allies rather than your main character: including Lana Beniko paired with T7-01, or Theron Shan. There's also a segment piloting a Basilisk. If you get motion sick easily, the game actually warns you. Skip it without missing anything critical, which is rare developer decency.

Faction Differences

Both Republic and Empire run the same mission name. Cinematics vary by origin story. Some dialogue and supporting characters appear or disappear depending on your choices across four years of content. The Legacy Reborn choices affect witnessed outcomes but not the direction of the main plot: classic SWTOR. You feel powerful; the story goes where it was going anyway.

Lore Bonus (Optional)

Characters and references in Legacy Reborn draw from a six-issue comic series following Gav and Jori Daragon: two sibling explorers who discovered Korriban and were exploited by Naga Sadow. Not required. Significantly enriches the experience. Your call.

What Else Comes With 7.9

Legacy Reborn is the centerpiece but not the entire update. The Galactic Season 10: titled "Secrets of the Syndicate": launches alongside it and runs 16 weeks. New armor, decorations, titles, achievements, and flairs await the completion-obsessed.

Cartel Market

  • Naga Sadow's Fortress Blades: thematic, appropriately menacing
  • Pit Fighter's Vibroblades
  • EE-2MAG Blaster Series
  • Armor inspired by The Mandalorian and Grogu
  • New Trooper Armor set

PvP & Systems

PvP Season 10 "Honor in Battle" launches with 7.9. Fresh rewards, renewed participation from players who apparently needed new cosmetics to care about killing each other. Dynamic Encounters continue expanding: useful for credit farming, casual enough to do half-asleep. The Companion Return Terminal has been moved to the Companions & Contacts window, which is long overdue and will confuse people for three weeks before becoming invisible muscle memory.

Voice Acting: The Elephant in the Room

The SAG-AFTRA video game voice actor strike delayed this update by over a year. English voices are present. French and German clients get English voices with native-language subtitles at launch: localized recordings are coming when they're coming. Non-SAG-AFTRA actors struck in solidarity globally, which is how you end up in 2026 explaining to your German guildmates why Theron sounds wrong.

When it's done

Update 8.0 marks the 15th anniversary of SWTOR and the beginning of the next story era. The developers have promised "quite the shake-up across the galaxy," which is either genuinely exciting or the most optimistic way to say "we're rebooting the premise again." Given the track record, probably both.

Practical Notes for Actual Humans

  1. No gear required. Legacy Reborn is designed around quest rewards. Endgame gear speeds up fights. It does not change the story. Do not grind ops just for this.
  2. No group required. Fully solo. Every fight is tuned for it. The Basilisk segment is on rails.
  3. Check your mission log first. If you've been playing regularly, you probably already have the breadcrumb and skipped past it by accident.
  4. Use the Eras menu. It exists specifically so you don't have to remember which of twelve planets you abandoned in 2023.
  5. The motion sickness warning is real. One segment. You can skip it. No story content missed.
  6. Story choices diverge cosmetically, not narratively. Your decisions create unique scenes, not alternate endings. Manage expectations accordingly.
  7. GTN prices are volatile post-launch. If you plan to sell crafted goods or new Cartel Market items, the first two weeks are the window. It closes fast.

SWTOR Legacy Reborn Guide – Update 7.9 Complete FAQ

Do I need an active subscription to play Legacy Reborn?

No active sub required: but you must have been subscribed for at least one month since February 2022.

Do my story choices in Legacy Reborn change the ending?

No. Choices alter specific scenes and dialogue, but the main plot reaches the same destination regardless of what you pick.

Do I need endgame gear to complete the story?

No. Quest gear is sufficient. Endgame gear makes fights faster, not possible. Skip the gear grind entirely.

Why are French and German voices missing at launch?

The SAG-AFTRA strike and international solidarity actions delayed non-English recordings. Subtitles are available; audio is English only for now.

What happens to SWTOR after Legacy Reborn: is the game ending?

No. Update 8.0 arrives late 2026, marking the 15th anniversary and starting a new story era with a new expansion.
