Learn how PoE 2 trade actually works: from the official trade site to async Merchant Tabs. Stop getting ripped off. Start flipping currency like you m
The Path of Exile 2 market does not hold your hand. There is no auction house. No buyout button with confetti. You go to pathofexile.com/trade2, you find what you want, you whisper a stranger, and you pray. That is the entire. Welcome.
Since Patch 0.3 (The Third Edict), a proper asynchronous system exists: but it requires a Merchant's Tab, which costs real money unless you converted a Premium Stash Tab you owned before August 29, 2025. Classic GGG.
Note: Solo Self-Found players cannot use Merchant's Tabs or the Currency Exchange. You chose exile. Now live it.

The PoE 2 trade site at pathofexile.com/trade2 or via the in-game browser (press /) is your starting point for the first two. Direct trades still require you to be in the same location: a hub, your hideout, or theirs. Both players must hover to confirm the items. Both players click Accept. Anything else is a scam.
The Currency Exchange is a proper automated order system. Place a buy or sell order. The system fulfills it automatically. No whisper required. No existential dread. It only handles stackable items: orbs, fragments, splinters. Think of it as a stock market for things you burn on gear that immediately becomes obsolete.
To access it, speak to Ange in your hideout (or Kingsmarch in Act 4). She replaced Faustus. She is friendlier. The PoE 2 currency exchange rates are player-driven, so prices fluctuate with the meta. Early-league Chaos Orbs are cheap. Late-league Divine Orbs cost a kidney.
This is Path of Exile 2 async trade in practice. You put items in the Merchant's Tab, price each one individually (no bulk pricing, because convenience is earned), pay a small gold fee, and they go live on the trade site. You can be offline. You can be asleep. A stranger teleports to your hideout, buys your item, and leaves. You get a notification. You claim earnings from Ange's remove-only Earnings Tab. It is, by PoE standards, elegant.
Tip: Only 24 non-friend, non-party players can occupy your hideout simultaneously. Your shop is not that popular anyway.
The old way. You find an item on the trade site, click the whisper button, paste the message into chat, and wait. If the seller is online, not AFK, not mid-boss, and feels like responding, they invite you to their party. You join. You follow the party icon to their hideout. You trade. You hover over their item. They hover over yours. Accept. Done.
If the item has been sold already: which it has: you start over. This is the PoE 2 player trade experience as designed. It builds character. Mostly frustration.
Scam check: Always hover over the item in the trade window before clicking Accept. Sellers have swapped items last-second since PoE 1. Respect the hover.
Use the trade site to check three to five recent listings of a similar item before setting your price. Your rare ring with two useful mods and four garbage mods is not worth 30 Divines. Check. Price 10–15% below the median if you want it to sell. Price above median if you enjoy watching your listing collect dust.
For the PoE 2 item pricing to work in your favor, list during peak hours: evenings and weekends. The player pool is larger. Demand is higher. Someone out there needs exactly your mediocre ring for a build guide they found at 2 AM.
The official PoE2 trade website at pathofexile.com/trade2 is overwhelming on first open. It is also available in-game. The in-game version is identical in functionality: choose whichever hurts less.

Enable Online Only unless you enjoy whispering ghosts. Use the PoE 2 item search filter stack aggressively: narrow results to under 20 listings and you have a real market snapshot. More than 200 results means your search is pointless.
PoE 2 currency flipping is real and it works. Identify a currency pair where the spread between buy and sell orders is profitable. Execute the arbitrage repeatedly. Reinvest. The Currency Exchange makes this cleaner than it ever was in PoE 1. The risk is that the meta shifts overnight because a streamer posted a new build and suddenly everyone needs different orbs.
Early in a league, farm and sell. Mid-league, upgrade your own gear aggressively: prices are still sane. Late-league, either flip or quit. There is no shame in quitting. GGG will release a new league and you will be back.

No. Buying requires only the Market Panel. Selling requires the tab. GGG still gets your money eventually.
No. Gold is non-tradeable. It funds your listings and NPC interactions. Keep it to yourself.
Whisper twice, wait 30 seconds, move on. They are either mapping, dead, or ignoring you. Probably ignoring you.
No. Direct trade is free, but requires you online. Async listing needs the tab. Pay or be available. Pick one.
Search similar items on trade2. If yours is the highest price, lower it. Pride sells nothing here.
