Patch 0.5 introduced Genesis Tree & Wombgifts: a brand-new farming system that lets you guarantee ilvl 84 item bases through Hiveblood investment.

The Genesis Tree is one of the most original item-acquisition systems in Path of Exile 2's 0.5 patch: and arguably the most merciful thing GGG has ever shipped. Instead of gambling your sanity on drop rates, you grow your endgame items from seeds. Literal seeds. Welcome to farming simulator, exile.
The concept is straightforward: you find items called Wombgifts, slot them into the Genesis Tree's incubation slots, feed the tree a resource called Hiveblood, and wait for your item to mature. No randomness on whether you get the item. Only on what it becomes after. That's a massive distinction, and if you're a Solo Self-Found SSF PoE2 player, this system was basically made for PoE 2 Exalted Orb. SSF
The Hiveblood resource in PoE2 is the fuel for the entire Genesis Tree system. You collect it, you dump it into your incubating Wombgift, and once you hit the threshold: the item is yours at Item Level 84. Full stop.
The magic number is 1,458 units per Wombgift to reach ilvl 84. That's not a small ask, but it's a predictable one. You know exactly what you're working toward. Compare that to the classic PoE experience of running the same map 400 times and questioning your life choices: this is a spa day.
1,458 Hiveblood sounds like a lot until you remember you've spent more hours on worse odds. Your divorce proceedings, for instance.
Key insight: The ilvl 84 guarantee is the entire point. High ilvl bases are the foundation of endgame crafting. Getting a guaranteed ilvl 84 base of a specific item type is genuinely powerful, especially in SSF where trade isn't an option.

The Wombgift farming guide for PoE2 starts here. There are currently five identified Wombgift types in the 0.5 database, each incubating into a distinct item category. One of them is keeping its secrets, which is very on-brand for GGG. Endgame puff... or... maybe a PoE 2 Mirror of Kalandra?

The Ornate Wombgift amulet path is probably the most universally valuable for any build: amulets are notoriously hard to target-farm at high ilvl. The Revelatory Wombgift Breachstone is your endgame content key, meaning this isn't just item farming: it's directly gating your access to Breach mechanics.
The Lavish Wombgift's hidden result is either the most powerful item in the game or a pair of magic boots. GGG giveth, and GGG maketh you wait.
The Genesis Tree incubation slots are the physical mechanism: specific slots on the tree accept specific Wombgift types. You can't just throw an Ornate Wombgift into the Ring slot and expect the universe to cooperate. Each Wombgift has a designated home.
You can presumably run multiple slots in parallel (the tree has plural incubation slots by design), meaning dedicated farmers can pipeline multiple items simultaneously. Prioritize based on your build's most critical gear slots.
In Solo Self-Found SSF PoE2 progression, you can't buy your way out of bad luck. Every rare item you need has to drop for you, which means the traditional PoE endgame can feel like repeatedly slamming your face into a concrete wall made of probability theory.
The Genesis Tree directly dismantles that wall for specific item slots. If your build needs a high-ilvl amulet and trade league is not an option, planting an Ornate Wombgift and grinding Hiveblood is a guaranteed path forward. Not "probably," not "eventually with luck." Guaranteed. That word doesn't appear often in this genre.
The Genesis Tree is a deliberate design statement. PoE2's delayed gratification farming model says: we will make you work for the best items, but we will not make the outcome random. The effort is the gate, not the dice roll.
This is a meaningful shift from the PoE1 philosophy, where effort and outcome were loosely correlated at best. 1,458 Hiveblood is a real investment: but it's an investment, not a lottery ticket. The distinction matters psychologically as much as mechanically. You're building toward something, not hoping.
Optimal play: Identify the single item slot your build is most starved for, plant the matching Wombgift first, and funnel all Hiveblood there. Spreading across multiple slots slows everything down equally: pick your PoE 2 currency.
The Revelatory Wombgift deserves its own mention because it doesn't produce a gear item: it produces a Breachstone, unlocking endgame Breach content. This means the Genesis Tree isn't just about equipment; it's a direct path into specific endgame mechanics.
If Breach content is part of your endgame plan and Breachstones aren't dropping for you naturally, the Revelatory Wombgift is a reliable fallback. Plant it, grind Hiveblood, get your key. Simple.

Exactly 1,458 units of Hiveblood per Wombgift to guarantee an ilvl 84 item.
Yes: it was essentially designed with SSF players in mind for guaranteed top-tier base access.
Its result is hidden in the current database. It holds DB ID 13: assume it's worth incubating.
The tree has multiple incubation slots: parallel incubation appears to be the intended design.
It guarantees ilvl 84 base only. Affixes are still rolled normally: RNG lives on there.
